Through Frericks’ dedication, UD remained being known for integrity and credibility despite all the changes. Highlights of his tenure included UD’s second-place finish in the 1967 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, and the construction in 1969 of the $4.5 million University of Dayton Arena. As a member of the Men’s Basketball Committee, Frericks was an integral part of developing the tournament to the great American sporting event, “March Madness,” it is today. He was on the five-member team from the Basketball Committee that negotiated the seven-year, $1 billion television contract with CBS Sports. Mr. Frericks was slated to be the Chair of the Basketball Committee starting in 1992, but he lost his battle with cancer on Jan. 31, 1992, before presiding over any championship. Fifteen days prior to his passing, the University had rededicated the University of Dayton Fieldhouse as the Thomas J. Frericks Athletic and Convocation Center. It serves as a constant reminder, fittingly, in a building where he attended classes, practiced and played as a young man and transformed UD athletic fortunes as athletic director. 68 2017-18 > DAYTON FLYERS > WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 1980 AIAW NATIONAL CHAMPIONS > 1979-80 AIAW NATIONAL CHAMPIONS < INDUCTED IN 2000 > - JOURNEY BEARD - BEVERLY CRUSOE - MARY CAROL GLEASON - PAT HOFFMAN - MARLENE JARZYNKA - JULIE JOHNSON - CAROL LAMMERS - MARY MCDONALD - ANN MEYERS - KIM RAMSEY - TAMMY STRITENBERGER - SUE YOUNGPETER 69 2017-18 > DAYTON FLYERS > WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ALL-TIME ROSTER > Years Player Ht.
