Sparrow Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Sparrow Records Discography Sparrow is a Contemporary Christian label founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn. Hearn was the A&R Director for Word Records’ Myrrh label, founded a few years earlier also as a Contemporary Christian label. Sparrow also released records under their Birdwing subsidiary. Hearn’s Sparrow label was in competition with Hearn’s old boss, Word Records, and was quite successful. Even today, Sparrow is among the top Christian labels. Hearn sold the label to EMI in 1992, and it was placed under the Capitol Christian Music Group. Sparrow signed a distribution agreement with MCA in April, 1981 to release their product in the secular market while the regular Sparrow issues were distributed to Christian stores and Christian radio stations. The arrangement with MCA lasted until October, 1986, when Sparrow switched distribution to Capitol. Dossier préparé par Cyrille Delanlssays & Marc Moingeon Depuis le début des années 90, un nom à la consonance étrange et à la prononciation improbable (prononcez "aïona") fait parler de lui dans le cercle très restreint de certains amateurs de rock progressif, un groupe pourtant à nul autre pareil car il est aussi fortement influencé par la musique celtique. En 1995, leur quatrième album "Journey into the morn" connaît enfin une distribution un peu moins que confidentielle en France, du moins ici et là… dans les rayons plutôt sinistrés du folk, car le groupe a depuis toujours l'avantage et l'inconvénient d'être impossible à étiquetter. A force de persévérance, il est possible pour quelques passionnés de la région parisienne de trouver leurs disques précédents dans les rayons de musique celtique de la plus fameuse chaîne de magasins de musique française. Passé ce qui pourrait faire croire à un décollage de leur carrière ici, Iona perd pourtant toute trace de distribution, avant d'être récupéré bien plus tard par Musea, via Voiceprint. A l'heure où, après une longue période sans album studio, Iona et ses membres connaissent un regain d'activité intense, il était plus que temps de retracer l'histoire d'un groupe qui a servit de creuset à l'imagination fertile de nombreux musiciens d'exception, sous la houlette de Dave Bainbridge, discret mentor et musicien surdoué qui a répondu pour cette occasion avec un luxe de détails rare à une longue suite de questions. Dr. Libby Gibson election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Book of Common Prayer p. 822 Unlike so many children in the United States, I had the privilege of attending an excellent high school, and I was blessed with the support of parents who valued cross-cultural experiences.1 Over spring break of my junior year, I traveled with a group to the Soviet Union where we visited historic sites in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and had the chance to meet Russian teenagers and their teachers. This was the era of perestroika and glasnost, of reformation and openness within the Communist party, which would lead to the dissolution of the Soviet Union a mere two years later. The students were very eager to talk with us about living in the United States, and after discussing Duran Duran, U2, and Levi’s, a young man asked, “What is it like to vote?” Since none of us were 18, and fairly few of us had memories of 4 going to the polls with our parents, we mumbled and Parish Newsletter fumbled an answer. The Russian teenagers were aghast that November – December 2016 we were so ignorant and seemingly uninterested in voting when a democratic election was one of their greatest dreams.
