EVERY ADOLESCENT GROWS IN LEARNING EVERY DAY IN SURING BY BEING SAFE, OUTSTANDING, ACCOUNTABLE, AND RESPECTFUL

Dear Parents and Community Members,

On behalf of the Suring Public School District staff, and myself, I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. This summer we are preparing for the return of students to our classrooms, and we eagerly await the first day of school on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Strong community support is one of the primary strengths of our district, and we appreciate how much you offer to your own children and to our school district as a whole. We could not do it without you! Thanks to the referendum the district was able to make some improvements and sustain educationally what was done in the In-Service Dates: past. Some of those improvements include: remodeling the science classrooms, (no school) purchasing science classroom equipment, purchasing interactive boards for  October 11 classrooms, new lockers in the boys locker room and hallways, painting in  January 24 & 25 classrooms and hallways, flooring laid in hallways and classrooms, upgrading the  February 18 track, purchasing social studies curriculum, cafeteria tables, refinishing gym floor,  April 18 purchasing new stage curtains, and installing a new SAN (storage area network). The district will continue to reach the referendum goals while sustaining what we do educationally. Parent /Teacher Conference Dates: We encourage you to stay connected to what we are doing here at school, and we are (students dismissed @ 1PM) open to any help you are able to provide our students, staff and offices. If you are interested in volunteering some time and willing to work with children, please  October 6(1:15-7:00pm) contact our district or student office. They will provide you with a volunteer form and contact will be made after a background check is completed.  Feb. 23 (1:15-7:00pm) Please make sure to check out the following within this newsletter:

ATTENTION PARENTS - WE NEED YOUR HELP Student Information Update**** OPENS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 16th **** The Suring School District is using the Online Student Information process which allows the District to become “paperless.” This process eliminates the need for parents to fill out paper copies of the state-law required forms. If you currently have a student enrolled at Suring School District, you are able to use this feature; unfortunately, you cannot use it if your child is new to the district.

To get started, you must have a Family Access account. If you do not have Family Access or cannot remember your login, please do one of the following: contact the student office after August 16th between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm or attend our Back-to-School Day tutorials in room 103 (Conference room) on August 30th. Please contact the student office with any questions: Elm/MS (920) 842-2181 ext. 1002 or MS/HS (920) 842-2182 ext. 1001

Parents & Guardians,

I hope you are all having a fun, relaxing and rejuvenating summer! We have been busy here at school this summer! Over 130 students took advantage of our summer school programming which included academics in June, swimming and a 4K program in July, and youth football in August. It was wonderful to see so many excited and smiling faces show up each day ready to learn!

When students return to classes in September you will see that the building has gotten quite a facelift! I won't wreck the surprise with too much information... but we are very excited to see the reactions of the children when they see the changes that took place thanks to community support and referendum dollars.

The staff has been hard at work preparing for another fun filled, educational school year. Know that we are all invested in the education of your children and look forward to the opportunity to partner with parents and community members to help each and every child reach their potential. Should questions or concerns come up as the school year progresses, do not hesitate to call or stop by.

Sincerely, Mrs. Berg

Greetings from The Support Service Staff:

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the staff and community members for welcoming us to the Suring School District. During the 2020-2021 school year our team has been able to serve students in many ways. We are excited to continue to work with students, staff and the community in the upcoming school year.

Ms. Brighum, school counselor, has helped students with scheduling, scholarship and college applications. She helped facilitate ACT testing, provided one-on-one support to students as well as peer mediation. Ms. Brighum provided guidance/SEAL (Social, Emotional and Academic Learning) for students in grades K-5th weekly, in addition to monthly guidance meetings with middle school students. She provided crisis support as needed and was available as a support to both staff and students. She is continuing to build relationships and rapport with students.

Mrs. Fendrick, school social worker, worked with the Nurse's Nook program in coordinating family support services such as the weekend food program, Adopt-A-Family, warm winter gear, and family meals (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter). She has gone to numerous homes to drop off work for students during the pandemic and assisted in monitoring the clothing closet. Mrs. Fendrick is creating relationships with community partners to continue to provide and expand resources for our students and families which includes working with the Northeast Coalition, N.E.W Hope Coalition (substance abuse prevention and treatment), and the Oconto County Mental Health Workgroup. She also serves as the Homeless Liaison and Foster Care point of contact for the district. Mrs. Fendrick provides crisis support to students, one-on-one check in/support, and taught 6th grade guidance.

As a team, we have been able to review how this last year has gone and are making some changes for the next school year to con- tinue to expand our services and availability to support students and families here in the Suring Public School District. Ms. Brighum will be spending the majority of her time focusing on the needs of the Middle School and High School Students. She plans to expand student support to address mental health needs and working directly with advanced career planning. She will continue individual and group counseling, as well as create a mental health and wellness book club and newspaper. Ms. Brighum will continue to teach social and emotional skills to the middle school students with the Positive Actions Curriculum. If you have concerns about a student in 6th-12th grade, Ms. Brighum will be the point of contact. You may reach her at [email protected] or by calling the student office at 920-842-2182, ext. 1005

Mrs. Fendrick will continue to work with community partners, serve as the Homeless Liaison/Foster Care contact, and coordinate Nurses Nook Programs. She will be spending more time working directly with the 4K-5th grade students in providing guidance/social emotional learning utilizing the Competent Kids Caring Community Curriculum. Mrs. Fendrick will continue to provide crisis services, one-on-one support, and group counseling as needed. She will be available for families who would like assistance in finding and obtaining resources. If you have concerns about a student in grades 4K-5th grade, or want assistance with resources, reach out to Mrs. Fendrick at [email protected] or by calling the student office at 920-842-2181, 1141.
