The taxonomic history of the New Caledonian myrmecomorph spider, Anatea formicaria Berland (Hadrotarsinae: Theridiidae) is summarized, new records are presented and the female is figured for the first time. Two new species provisionally assigned to the genus are described from north-eastern Australia, A. monteithi Smith sp. nov. and A. elongata Smith sp. nov. Some undescribed Anatea species occurring on New Caledonia are shown, and aspects of hadrotarsine anatomy and ant specialization are discussed. Keywords. Memoirs of the Museum of Victoria 56(2): 339-347. The semiarid regions of Australia have a high generic diversity of mygalomorph spiders . Several genera are postulated as being "tropical" rainforest genera. Three genera. Conothele, Selenocosmia and Cethegus have been selected for discussion. Persistence of these genera in the arid region is postulated as being due to a combination of natural restriction to relic habitats or those with verisimilitude with rainforest habitats and retention of behavioural attributes which fortuitously fit them to persist. Sensors for Ecology and Makes a Strong Case for Deploying Integrated Sensor Platforms
Présentation de l’éditeur Ecological sciences deal with the way organisms interact with one another and their environment. Using sensors to measure various physical and biological characteristics has been a common activity since long ago. However the advent of more accurate technologies and increas- ing computing capacities demand a better combination of information collected by sensors on multiple spatial, temporal and biological scales.
