We were delighted to welcome our P1/2/3 class back to school last week and we look forward to welcoming back our P4-7 classes as soon as possible. I have a number of items to update you on this month and I hope you find this information helpful. P4-7 Teams I would like to take this opportunity to thank our P4-7 pupils for embracing our move over to a greater use of Teams last week. We have been delighted at the uptake of this platform and the work received. Initial feedback from our class teachers has been very positive, keep up the good work! P1/2/3 Return It has been wonderful to see our P1/2/3 class settle so quickly back into the school routine. We have loved hearing their chatter around the school and seeing them playing together outside. It has really lifted our spirits during such challenging times. 500 Miles Challenge Thank you to all who participated in our Walk 500 Miles Challenge. We collectively walked a whopping 610miles which was wonderful. A great way to round off our Scotland focus, participate together as a community and also keep fit and healthy whilst doing so. Thank you to Miss Wallace for organising this and our video of the walk can be found both on Class Blogs and Twitter. The Cumnock Chronicle has run an article on this event too for you to read. Parent/Pupil Voice Miss Evans is working on obtaining some funding to support us in developing our school grounds. We are keen to hear the opinions of both pupils and parents on your ideas for enhancements to the playground and outdoor shed so, please look out for a questionnaire over the coming weeks regarding this. I am currently reviewing our curriculum development and would be keen to hear the opinions of parents/carers on aspects of both literacy and numeracy, including the possibility of hosting Parental Workshops. Again, look out for a form on the app in the coming weeks seeking your opinions. Parent Conferences We are hoping to host Parent Conferences in the form of a telephone call week beginning 29th March, prior to the Easter break. We will shortly send out more information about appointments for this. Council Headquarters, London Road, Kilmarnock KA3 7BU Tel: 01563 576000 Upcoming Events We are currently in the middle of Fairtrade Fortnight where Miss Weir has prepared various activities along with her P1/2/3 Fairtrade Committee to promote awareness within the school community. We are looking forward to seeing completed Fairtrade activities and sharing our whole school Fairtrade Assembly on Friday 5th March at 11.30am. Thursday 4th March is World Book Day and Miss Evans has been creating lots of fun activities to promote a love of books and reading. We have a virtual author visit with AH Proctor, author of the Thumble Tumble series based on Arran and we are excited to participate in a BookTrail around the Sorn Community where parents, staff and some special guests will share their favourite books. British Science runs from 5th-14th March and we have a variety of Science and STEM related activities which can be completed both in school and at home, look out for more of these on the blogs from Monday 8th March. The RRSA Committee are currently working on Red Nose Day activities for Friday 19th March, we are very hopeful all pupils will have returned by then to participate in the Comic Relief event together. I would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout these challenging times. We are hopeful to see the return of the remainder of our classes on 15th March pending the next Scottish Government update and I will in turn update you as soon as I have further information. Sorn is a twenty minute drive from Ayr where there are an excellent range of shops and restaurants, sports facilities and cinema. Glasgow is within easy commuting reach by the recently improved M77. Junction 12 of the M74 with rapid access to the south, is 18 miles distant, while Glasgow is 35 miles. There are main line railway stations in Kilmarnock and Auchinleck providing access to Glasgow and beyond whilst Glasgow Prestwick Airport can be reached in about a thirty minute drive and offers a comprehensive schedule of international flights. Sorn was originally known as Dalgain until the 17th century. It is now a classic Ayrshire village with the attractions of the church, the hump-backed bridge over the River Ayr and Sorn Castle. Sorn Castle was originally built in the 14th century but there have been several additions and rebuilds which have created a modern mansion.

    Southern Locality Plan Final Working Draft July 2018 Introduction Welcome to the plan for East Ayrshire’s Southern Locality (“the Locality Plan”). This is our first Southern Locality Plan; it sets out our shared priorities for improving health and wellbeing in Ballochmyle, Cumnock and the Doon Valley and identifies actions to be carried out in 2018-19 to help achieve positive outcomes in these communities. Successfully delivering the Locality Plan contributes to achieving: the Community Plan: Wellbeing Delivery Plan 2018-21; the Integration Joint Board’s Strategic Plan; the Local Police Plan 2017-20 the Local Fire and Rescue Plan for East Ayrshire 2017 These documents set out the strategic context and direction in detail, the Locality Plan therefore does not repeat this information. Many communities in the Southern Locality also already have Community Action Plans in place. These action plans cover a wide range of interests which have been identified at a community level; from town centre regeneration and developing the local economy to heritage and the environment. A significant number of these activities may have a positive effect on people’s health and wellbeing and as such, are linked to and considered within the Locality Plan. Southern Locality communities with Community Action Plans are: Logan, Lugar and Cronberry Mauchline New Cumnock Sorn Dalmellington Drongan, Rankinston and Stair Patna Netherthird,Craigens and Skerrington Muirkirk Cumnock Ochiltree and Skares Catrine Auchinleck’s Action Plan will be in place in early 2019. People having a say about their priorities for improving their health and wellbeing and their community is at the heart of everything we do.

The purpose of this report is to advise the Joint Committee of the progress made with the road improvement programmes within East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire for financial year 2018-2019. BACKGROUND 2. The East Ayrshire Council programme for the 2018/19 Carriageway and Footway Structural Maintenance and Street Lighting Works was approved by Cabinet on 21 February 2018. The 2018/19 programme for Bridge and Culvert Strengthening and Traffic, Transportation and Road Safety were both approved by Cabinet on 21 March 2018. A three year LED street lighting replacement programme commenced in April 2018. This will increase the current number of LED units from around 20% towards 100%. 3. The available budgets for 2018/19 are £5.1 million for carriageways; street lighting £0.250 million; traffic & road safety £0.265 million; bridges £1.0 million; CWSS (Cycling Walking and Safer Streets) £0.166 million; Smarter Choices, Smarter Places £0.112 million; the New Cumnock Flood Works £0.600 million; A70 Glenbuck £1.4 million; SPT £1.215 million; and Sustrans £0.135 million. 4. The South Ayrshire Council programme for 2018/19 was approved by Leadership Panel on 24 April 2018. A two year LED street lighting replacement programme commenced in April 2018. The purpose of this report is to advise the Joint Committee of the progress made with the road improvement programmes within East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire for financial year 2018-2019. BACKGROUND 2. The East Ayrshire Council programme for the 2018/19 Carriageway and Footway Structural Maintenance and Street Lighting Works was approved by Cabinet on 21 February 2018. The 2018/19 programme for Bridge and Culvert Strengthening and Traffic, Transportation and Road Safety were both approved by Cabinet on 21 March 2018. A three year LED street lighting replacement programme commenced in April 2018. This will increase the current number of LED units from around 20% towards 100%. 3. The available budgets for 2018/19 are £5.1 million for carriageways; street lighting £0.250 million; traffic & road safety £0.265 million; bridges £1.0 million; CWSS (Cycling Walking and Safer Streets) £0.166 million; Smarter Choices, Smarter Places £0.112 million; the New Cumnock Flood Works £0.600 million; A70 Glenbuck £1.4 million; SPT £1.215 million; and Sustrans £0.135 million. 4. The South Ayrshire Council programme for 2018/19 was approved by Leadership Panel on 24 April 2018. A two year LED street lighting replacement programme commenced in April 2018.
