Linkages Across the Continuum of HIV Services for Key Populations Affected by HIV (LINKAGES) Project Cooperative Agreement No. AID-OAA-A-14-00045 DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT JULY 1 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 OCTOBER 31, 2018 LINKAGES Quarterly Report (July 1 – September 30, 2018) - DRC 0 LINKAGES DRC Quarterly Progress Report July 1 to September 30, 2018 Overall Achievement This quarter marks the end of strong year of implementation for Linkages across the Continuum of HIV Services for Key Populations Affected by HIV (LINKAGES) Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The project exceeded all annual targets for female sex workers (FSWs) and reached most targets for men who have sex with men (MSM). This quarter (Q4), case finding rates, linkage to care, and viral load (VL) testing coverage all increased notably compared with Q3. The project continued to benefit from central TOM+ funds, which were allocated to targeted technical assistance (TA) from LINKAGES headquarters (HQ), as well as to training and seed funding to improve implementation. An index testing strategy was developed and incorporated into activities, and HIV self-testing started. Enhanced peer outreach approach (EPOA) activities and risk assessment tools were reinforced to improve reach and testing services. Additionally, LINKAGES DRC signed a subagreement with a key population (KP)/MSM-led organization (Jeunialissime), launched a community service delivery point (CSDP) with a trained nurse in Kasumbalesa, and conducted programmatic mapping in two health zones (Rwashi and Kampemba) that will be covered in FY19. 1. Summary of Key Results • 3,390 FSWs, 1,338 MSM, and 735 FSW clients were reached with HIV prevention interventions. -

Frederick Kakwata November, 2014 Copyright © 2014 Stellenbosch University All rights reserved ii Stellenbosch University http://scholar.sun.ac.za ABSTRACT Despite the excessive mineral wealth, the underground deposits of gold, diamonds, copper and cobalt and other valuable minerals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo which are coveted by many countries, the majority of the population is still destitute and lives in dire poverty. However the country itself prospered during the colonial period 1885-1960 and it became the second most industrialized state in Africa after South Africa (Petit & Mutambwa, 2005). Unfortunately it is now ranked among the world's poorest countries in the world. Since the Democratic Republic of the Congo gained independence in 1960 it has not experienced development that benefits the whole population. The country is experiencing continuing and pressing problems of poverty and human suffering. Thus the purpose during this study is to analyse the position of the Pentecostal Church in the Congo (30ème CPCO) concerning the situation of poverty in the city of Lubumbashi and to design a pragmatic approach that can assist the denomination to find ways to effectively address the problem of poverty. -

Its goal is to collect data and issue reports on the present status and future prospects of property-related taxes in all 54 African countries, with a primary focus on land and building taxes and real property transfer taxes. Each individual report aims to provide concise, uniform and comparable information on property taxes within a specific country or region, considering both the system as legislated and tax in practice. This paper provides a detailed case study of property taxation in the Democractic Republic of the Congo. About the Author Mr. Jean Jacques Nzewanga of the Democratic Republic of Congo is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at the University of Pretoria. Mr. Nzewanga received an M.Com. in Economics from the University of Pretoria, and a B.S. from the University of Kinshasa. He has served as a teaching assistant at the University of Kinshasa, and a researcher at the African Observatory for Human Rights and Democratic Development in Pretoria, South Africa. -

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Security-Related Humanitarian Access Overview (from June to September 2017) The Democratic Republic of the Congo is impacted by sporadic security-related incidents as reported in various territories and provinces around the country. From June to September 2017, there were more than 250 security incidents in 170 locations, featuring South Sudan conflicts and over land control and exactions against civilians, which resulted in more than 900 casualties. In this insecure environment, Central African Republic humanitarian actors need to ensure acceptance of communities and Ongoing Projects: 7 risk-adapted programming to continue delivering assistance to people in need.
