ARROGATE VS. PHAROAH? IT=S ARROGATE >A= IS FOR ABSOLUTE By Bill Finley SUPERSTAR ARROGATE It=s one of those arguments that can=t be answered with concrete answers, only guesses and speculation. Nonetheless, when you have two once-in-a-lifetime type horses actually come along in successive years, both of them trained by the same person, it=s an irresistible debate. Who is the superior horse, (Pioneerof the Nile) or Arrogate (=s Song)? Since the GI Breeders= Cup Classic, I thought the answer was Arrogate, but to say or write so seemed like blasphemy. Arrogate didn=t even race in the Triple Crown. Hung out wide in post 10 here, she raced in between horses while at least three wide behind a solid early tempo and began to move after the dueling leaders three off the fence after a half in :46.47. Making a sweeping move on the far turn, Purely a Dream was in control through three-quarters in 1:10.93 and distanced herself turning into the lane to win for fun. Awesome Boss completed the Ken McPeek-trained exacta. The win gives Purely a Dream 50 points toward a place in the GI Kentucky Oaks starting gate. AShe was a little hot in the post parade, which was a concern-- she had been off a while,@ winning jockey Robby Albarado said. AShe galloped along the first turn, squeezed into contention and then made the lead. I just kept on going at that point. She held off some nice fillies. It=s funny how she was foaled on this same day, the 25th [of March 2014].@

Pedigree Notes: Yorksters Girl (Ire), stakes-placed in Britain, was an 18,000gns TATDEC purchase as a horse of racing age for Purely a Dream=s breeder James Bredin in 2009. She is also represented by the 2- year-old filly Dragoness (Street Boss) and a 2017 First Samurai filly. McPeek has enjoyed plenty of success with offspring by Purely a Dream=s sire Pure Prize, led by GI Hollywood Starlet S. heroine Pure Fun (Pure Prize) and GII Pocahontas winner and GI Darley Alcibiades S. runner-up Dothraki Queen (Pure Prize).
