Arrowfield=s Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer commented, AIn a very competitive marketplace, the fourth season is always the most difficult. We have great faith in Animal Kingdom and have decided to take a longer-term view of his stallion career, so we=re resting him now, after he=s served three very big books in Kentucky and six consecutive seasons north and south.@ Cont. p9 IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Kris Kin winning the 2003 Epsom Derby with Kieren Fallon aboard ZIPESSA STRIKES AT PARX Racing Post Empyrean Stables’s Zipessa (City Zip) went wire-to-wire to win the GIII Dr. James Penny Memorial S., the lone North American by Chris McGrath graded event on the holiday schedule, at Parx Monday. HARRY ANGEL FLYING HIGH AMONG STAR CAST FOR SPRINT QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (£600,000) Group 1 (Please quote the QIPCO British Champions Series if using any quotes) Harry Angel, currently rated the best sprinter in the world on official ratings, heads a superb cast of 25 still in the mix for the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes. Four other speedsters with Group 1 wins to their name – Caravaggio, The Tin Man (winner of the race last year), Quiet Reflection and Limato – are also still engaged. Arrogate, Ballydoyle Team Star at Meydan Cont
FRIDAY, 24 MARCH, 2017 TEMPLE RETURN FOR QUIET REFLECTION ARROGATE, BALLYDOYLE Last year=s champion sprinter Quiet Reflection (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) could make her seasonal debut at Haydock, TEAM STAR AT MEYDAN the same track over which she won last year=s G1 Sprint Cup. Trainer Karl Burke laid out a few options for the 4-year-old filly=s return, but indicated he is favouring the G2 Temple S. at Haydock on May 27. "She looks great," said North Yorkshire-based Burke. "She's definitely matured and she's 10 kilos heavier than this time last year, but obviously that will come down as we start to get her a bit fitter. She won't run until the [G2] Duke of York at the earliest or there's the Temple S. a week later or a race in Ireland. She'll have entries for all of them and we'll see nearer the time where we go.@ "As we stand, if the ground on the slow side of good I'd favour Haydock as she loves Haydock,@ Burke added. "She's unbeaten there and she's not short of speed so five furlongs wouldn't worry me. If she did perform really well there it might bring races like the Nunthorpe into the equation.@ Cont. p3 Ballydoyle=s nine entrants for Dubai World Cup night get their first IN TDN AMERICA TODAY look at the Meydan main track on Thursday | Emma Berry MCKENNA NOT A BAD ‘JUDGE’ OF HORSEFLESH By Emma Berry Alan Carasso has an interview with Judge Lanier Racing’s Tom Thursday morning at Meydan was billed as Breakfast With The McKenna, who will be represented by Conquest Mo Money (Uncle Stars, but the real star of the show was out way before the Mo) in Sunday’s $800,000 GIII Sunland Derby. -
A= Is for Absolute Superstar Arrogate Cont
SUNDAY, 26 MARCH, 2017 ARROGATE VS. PHAROAH? IT=S ARROGATE >A= IS FOR ABSOLUTE By Bill Finley SUPERSTAR ARROGATE It=s one of those arguments that can=t be answered with concrete answers, only guesses and speculation. Nonetheless, when you have two once-in-a-lifetime type horses actually come along in successive years, both of them trained by the same person, it=s an irresistible debate. Who is the superior horse, American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) or Arrogate (Unbridled=s Song)? Since the GI Breeders= Cup Classic, I thought the answer was Arrogate, but to say or write so seemed like blasphemy. Arrogate didn=t even race in the Triple Crown. Pharoah not only won it, he broke a 37-year dry spell, accomplishing the most important feat there is in the sportBa feat that was beginning to seem impossible. Triple Crown winners belong in a pantheon, and it=s a small group of 12 that doesn=t welcome many outsiders. The who-is-the-better horse question can only truly be Arrogate wins the Dubai World Cup | DRC/Neville Hopwood answered on the racetrack. Barring that, you can go to speed figures. On the Beyer numbers, Arrogate is better. American By Kelsey Riley Pharoah ran a 105 in the GI Kentucky Derby, a 102 in the Ride him like Zenyatta. That was the plan jockey Mike Smith GI Preakness S., a 105 in the GI Belmont S. and a 109 in the turned to when >TDN Rising Star= Arrogate (Unbridled=s Song), the overwhelming international favourite for Saturday=s GI Haskell Invitational S. -
