Council District 8 serving the communities of Lower ‘Aiea, Pearlridge, Waimalu, Newtown, Councilmember Elefante recently spoke with the Waiau Seniors about issues Pearl City, Seaview, Crestview, Waipio Gentry, and portions of that are important to them. Waipahū Transportation Safety Legislation Calendar Of Events & Activities In keeping with the theme of transportation safety and as the Chair of the Honolulu City Council Transportation Committee, I have collaborated with other April 2019 Councilmembers on more legislation. 9 Special Meetings: Executive Matters & Legal Affairs Councilmember Mike Formby and I co-introduced Bill 8 (2019), which would Honolulu City Council Meeting update parameters for closing Kalakaua Avenue for parades and special 17 Honolulu City Council Meeting events. This legislation encompasses “ Legacy Events” such as the 19 Good Friday Holiday Honolulu Marathon, as well as parades and activities in the Waikiki Special 23 Council Committee Meetings: District. Bill 8, CD1, passed second reading at the April 17 Full Council Meeting - Parks, Community Service & and has been referred to the Transportation Committee. Intergovernmental Affairs - Planning - Executive Matters & Legal Affairs Councilmember and I co-introduced Bill 19 (2019), which 24 Council Committee Meetings: updates our ordinances for car sharing services. You may be familiar with car - Budget - Public Infrastructure, Technology sharing, which is like a short term, round-trip car rental where you can book a & Sustainability car by the hour or day. This bill would update our laws to make car sharing 25 Council Committee Meetings: more available across our island. I look forward to further discussions on all - Zoning & Housing transportation and transportation safety legislation. Bill 19 passed first - Transportation - Public Safety & Welfare reading at the April 17 Full Council Meeting and has been referred to the Budget Committee.

8 Honolulu City Council Meeting Proposed CIP Projects At

The Honolulu City Council is currently reviewing the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 21 Council Committee Meetings: budget for the City. I want to highlight some of the Council District 8 Capital - Parks, Community Service & Intergovernmental Affairs Improvement Program (CIP) projects that are included in the CIP budget, - Planning Bill 11 (2019). - Executive Matters & Legal Affairs Pearl Harbor Historic Trail $1,100,000 22 Council Committee Meetings: - Budget Reprogramming funds for Demonstration Project to revitalize trail. - Public Infrastructure, Technology Environmental Site Assessment Phase 1 is completed, and design may move & Sustainability forward. 23 Council Committee Meetings: Pearlridge Community Park $1,350,000 - Zoning & Housing - Transportation Reconstruct six tennis courts, one tennis practice court, two basketball - Public Safety & Welfare courts, and one volleyball. The 10 playcourts are heavily used and in need of 27 Memorial Day Holiday immediate repair. Funds included for resurfacing of entrance to park. Manana Corporation Yard Improvements $800,000 Construction funding to complete new Manana Corporation Yard on Makolu Street. The majority of the construction was funded in the FY19 CIP budget. Manana Corporation Yard will house divisions within Departments of Facility Maintenance and Parks and Recreation. Waipahū Uka Neighborhood Park $250,000 Resurfacing basketball and volleyball courts. Middle Loch Park $100,000 Master Plan for undeveloped park adjacent to Pearl Harbor Historic Trail in Waipahū.
