Constructed at Brighton Works in 1949, 34092 was originally named Wells, which was later changed to City of Wells in 1950. It was initially allocated to Stewarts Lane where it worked out of Victoria to the Kent coast on express services. In November 1964, it was withdrawn from service and sent to Woodham Brothers at Barry for scrap where it arrived in March 1965. During its preservation life, the locomotive has gained the nickname ‘Volcano’ due to its Giesl ejector and the funnel of exhaust this produces! With thanks to East Lancashire Light Railway Co Ltd

No. 76017, British Railways ‘Standard 4’

Built: 1953 Tractive Effort: 24,170lbf Weight: 108t Power Classification: 4MT Did you know? In 23rd September 1954, whilst working the 7am Banbury to Eastleigh goods; the driver lost control, and No. 76017 ran through the catch point and down the embankment. No- one was hurt and the engine was rescued by the Eastleigh and Fratton cranes, this being reported at the time in the Hampshire Chronicle. Following the incident, 76017 was swiftly returned to steam and ran until 1965, entering preservation in 1974 - 9 years after moving to Barry Scrapyard.
