News Release News Release Metra Media Relations 312-322-6776 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Rock Island schedule takes effect Feb. 1 Revision adds early morning options and some new express trains CHICAGO (Jan. 21, 2021) – Beginning Monday, Feb. 1, Metra’s Rock Island Line customers will have more travel options, including new early morning trains that were requested by riders and some additional express service. “Metra made a commitment to revise and enhance its schedules in response to customers as the region recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, and that is precisely what we are doing,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “Our goal remains to provide the safest, most affordable, most reliable and most convenient service possible.” The revised schedule includes a new inbound Train 400, which will depart Joliet at 4:30 a.m. and make stops along the mainline to Chicago’s LaSalle Street Station. Pre-COVID, that train had been particularly popular with construction workers who work downtown. Beverly Branch riders will also have a new early morning inbound Train 600, which will depart Blue Island at 5:20 a.m. and make all stops along the branch to LaSalle Street. Other highlights of the changes include: • A second new train on the Beverly Branch, Train 606, will depart Blue Island at 7:36 a.m. and make all stops along the branch to LaSalle Street. • On the mainline, Train 306 will replace Train 408 and depart the Tinley Park-80th Avenue Station at 7:38 a.m., making all mainline stops to Chicago. • A new morning inbound express Train 706 will depart Joliet at 7:30 a.m., make all stops to the Tinley Park/80th Avenue Station and then operate as an express to the 35th Street/“Lou” Jones Station before continuing to LaSalle Street. • New midday inbound Train 616 will depart Blue Island at 2:06 p.m. and make all stops along the Beverly Branch. • Outbound trains have also been added to the midday. Train 607 will depart LaSalle Street at 1:10 p.m., making all stops along the Beverly Branch to Blue Island, and Train 611 will depart LaSalle Street at 3:10 p.m., making all stops along the Beverly Branch to Blue Island. • In the evening, Metra has added outbound Train 713, which will depart LaSalle Street at 4:25 p.m., express to Tinley Park-80th Avenue and then make all local stops to Joliet. • In the early morning, new outbound Train 401 will depart LaSalle Street at 6:10 a.m. and arrive at Joliet at 7:20 a.m., making stops along the mainline, while new Train 601 will depart LaSalle Street at 6:30 a.m. and make all stops along the Beverly Branch to Blue Island. In addition to the new services, multiple adjustments have been made to both the inbound and outbound schedules to renumber trains, adjust departure times and intermediate run times. Rock Island riders are strongly encouraged to closely examine the new schedule, which can be viewed at metrarail.com. Home Stretch Well here we are one month out from Corflu 2016. This is the "now it gets real" moment for any convention. The list of to-dos gets longer every day, especially as things previously neglected suddenly rear their head ("Can I park your car for $60 a day sir?" and "I'm sorry do your attendees expect chairs in the conference room?"). The last one being a real question asked many years ago as we setup a con venue. It has been a while since I last organized a con, and those are two perfect reasons why that has remained true! But, the end is nigh, and we will have a "great time" - to paraphrase a wannabe contemporary politician, we will also have "the best time." Thank you President, er..     METRA STATIONS GUIDE Welcome to Metra, the commuter rail system that serves Northeast Illinois. Metra operates eleven rail lines that serve the six counties surrounding the Chicago Metro area. On an average business day, nearly 300,000 commuters use Metra to get to and from work, access recreation or anything else they wish to do. There are 242 stations in the Metra system. Over 80% of these stations are accessible to riders with disabilities. These stations represent 96% of all system wide boardings. This Stations Guide has been produced to assist the many customers who are blind and visually impaired who require the same information that other customers access in print format. In this document, there is an emphasis on directional and way-finding information to assist these customers navigating the Metra system. In lieu of maps, each rail district is laid out with stations listed from the downtown terminus point to the end of that particular line. Metra’s Downtown Terminals Metra is a true “hub and spoke” rail system. All eleven lines radiate out from the Chicago downtown area. The vast majority of riders come into the city center from outlying communities to access employment and entertainment. Metra has five major downtown stations: Chicago Union Station, Millennium Station, the Ogilvie Transportation Center, LaSalle Street Station and the Van Buren Station. At all of these facilities, there is an audio system to assist blind and visually impaired customers locate which track their train is departing from and track enunciators to help locate their track. This is in place so that a customer with significant visual loss can navigate their way through a station and get to their train without assistance.
