WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are proud to specially recognize a legendary institution that has contributed significantly to the country music industry and brought acclaim to the State of Tennessee the world over; and WHEREAS, no mass media event is more associated with the State of Tennessee than the WSM radio program known as The Grand Ole Opry. Not only is The Grand Ole Opry the longest-running radio show in U.S. history, but it is renowned as the cornerstone for the dynamic commercial art form of country music; and WHEREAS, the Grand Ole Opry and its offspring comprise, or are affiliated with, the State's major tourist attractions, and the Opry's commercial power and attraction have been the primary reasons for Nashville's emergence as a music recording center; and WHEREAS, the saga of the Grand Ole Opry began on the night of November 28, 1925, when a young announcer on Nashville radio station WSM introduced an eighty-year-old fiddle player, Uncle Jimmy Thompson, as the first performer on a new show called The WSM Barn Dance; and WHEREAS, announcer George D. Hay, who labeled himself "The Solemn Old Judge," but was neither old nor a judge, realized he had started a good thing that fateful night; and WHEREAS, now, ninety-five years later, the radio show Mr. Hay started is still going strong; the Opry is the foundation for a huge entertainment and resort complex and has been instrumental in Nashville claiming the title of Music City U.S.A.; and WHEREAS, this acclaimed radio show followed an NBC network radio program on Saturday nights called The Music Appreciation Hour; in 1928, Mr.

    Gaylord Entertainment Company Agrees to Sell 95.5 WSM-FM and 99.7 WWTN-FM to Cumulus Media for $65 Million in Cash March 25, 2003 NASHVILLE, Tenn., Mar 25, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Companies Announce Joint Marketing Agreement Cumulus Stations to Carry Grand Ole Opry Syndication Gaylord Entertainment Company (NYSE: GET) today announced its agreement to enter into a joint sales agreement for WSM-AM and to sell its two FM radio stations, 95.5 WSM-FM and 99.7 WWTN-FM, to Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) for $65 million in cash. Proceeds from the transaction will be used to fund a portion of the construction of the Company's Gaylord Opryland Texas Resort & Convention Center, the renovation of the Grand Ole Opry House and other growth initiatives. The transaction is subject to customary FCC and antitrust review, and is expected to close early in the third quarter. The parties have entered into an agreement under which Cumulus will program and market WWTN-FM and WSM-FM between expiration of statutory antitrust waiting periods and closing of the transaction. Gaylord and Cumulus Media have also announced a joint marketing agreement under which the two companies will work together to promote each other's entertainment assets. Cumulus Media has committed to carrying America's Grand Ole Opry Weekend, a two-hour weekly syndicated radio program to be distributed by Westwood One's radio network beginning this April, on its country stations. (December 22, 1998)-‑Gaylord Entertainment Company (NYSE:GET), a 51 percent owner of the Wildhorse Saloon restaurant and entertainment venues, will purchase the remaining 49 percent interest in the project from Levy Restaurants, according to officials of both companies. Gaylord Entertainment and Levy Restaurants created a partnership in 1995 with plans to open Wildhorse Saloons in various markets. The original Wildhorse Saloon was opened by Gaylord Entertainment in Nashville in 1994 as a combination country dance club, restaurant, broadcast facility and concert venue. In 1998, the partnership opened a second Wildhorse Saloon at the Walt Disney World7 Resort near Orlando. "We appreciated our time working with the fine people at Levy Restaurants. However, the specialty restaurant industry is not in an expansion mode right now," said Gaylord Entertainment President and Chief Executive Officer Terry London. "We view Wildhorse Saloons as entertainment venues more than restaurants, and our growth plan for the concept is through synergies created by connections with our other businesses," he said. London cited the synergy between the original Wildhorse Saloon and the company's Opryland Hotel and Ryman Auditorium as an example of those connections. In Orlando, Gaylord Entertainment's Opryland Lodging Group is developing a 1,400‑room convention hotel in nearby Osceola County, which can drive business to the Wildhorse Saloon at Walt Disney World7 Resort. The Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville features a 3,300‑square‑foot dance floor, nightly live entertainment, frequent concerts by country music stars and restaurant operations.
