One knows when the kohl is put into his eye, but he does not know when it gets out of it. Just in the same way that one believes in our matter in the morning and recants it in the evening or he believes in it in the evening and when morning comes, he recants it… 3- Ghaibat Tusi: It is narrated from Muhammad Himyari from his father from Ayyub bin Nuh from Abbas bin Aamir from Rabi bin Muhammad Musalli that he said: Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said to me: The Promised Mahdi 6 “By Allah, people will be broken up like glass, however glass can be joined together again. By Allah, people will be broken up like earthen pots; which if once broken cannot be joined again. By Allah, you people shall be crushed; by Allah, you shall be sieved like wheat is sieved from the chaff.” 4- Ghaibat Tusi: It is narrated from Ali Ibne Yaqtin that he said: Imam Musa Kazim (a.s.) said to me: “O Ali, the Shia have been brought up with hopes since two hundred years.” Yaqtin said to his son, Ali: “What is the matter?! What had been said (by the infallible Imams) to us occurred, but what had been said to you did not occur – he meant the fate of the Abbasids.” Ali said: “What had been said to you and what had been said to us were from the same source but the time of your matter came and it occurred as it had been said to you whereas the time of our matter did not come yet so we justified that by hopes and wishes. If it was said to us that this matter would occur after two hundred or three hundred years, our hearts would be hard and then most of people would apostatize, but they said to us that it would be so near in order to attract the hearts of people and to make them feel that deliverance was about to come.” 5- Ghaibat Tusi: It is narrated from Ghazairi from Bazufari from Ali bin Muhammad from Fadhl bin Shazan from Ahmad bin Muhammad and Ubais bin Hisham from Karaam from Fudhail that he said: I asked Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) if a time has been fixed for reappearance of Imam Zamana (a.s.) and he replied: “Those who fix a time for it are liars. Those who fix a time for it are liars. Those who fix a time for it are liars.” 6- Ghaibat Tusi: It is narrated from Fadhl bin Shazan from Husain bin Yazid Sahhaf from Mudhir Jawwaz from Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) that he said: “Those who fix a time for it are liars. • The Life of Imam Muhammad Al Jawad
Chapter 1 Dedication To the inspiring mind that has encouraged scientific and in- tellectual life on the earth, To the creative intellect that has initiated revival and cre- ation for Muslims, To the great Imam, Ja’far as-Sadiq, peace be upon him, I offer, with humbleness and reverence, this work, in which I have received the honor of researching the biography of his grandson Imam Muhammad al-Jawad, the miracle of intellect and knowledge in Islam, hoping it will be accepted… 2 Chapter 2 Introduction One of the most wonderful pictures of intellect and know- ledge in Islam is Imam Abu Ja’far Muhammad al-Jawad (a.s), who possessed the virtues and nobilities of the world, made springs of wisdom and knowledge flow in the earth and was the teacher and pioneer of the scientific and cultural revival of his age. Scholars, jurisprudents, narrators of traditions and learners of wisdom and sciences came to him to drink from the pure fount of his sciences and cultures. Jurisprudents have re- ported much from him concerning the verdicts of the Islamic Sharia, worships, mu’amalat[1] and other branches of jurispru- dence, and all have been recorded in the encyclopedias of jur- isprudence and Hadith. This great Imam was one of the founders of the jurispru- dence of the Ahlul Bayt[2] (a.s) that represented creation, ori- ginality and progress of intellect. [1] Ritual observances, social customs and ethical rules. [2] Ahlul Bayt is a term referring to the honored family of the Prophet (s), namely his daughter Fatima, Imam Ali, Imam Has- an, Imam Husayn and the other nine infallible imams descend- ing from Imam Husayn (peace be upon them all).

  • The Prophet Jesus (As) and Hazrat Mahdi Will Come This Centyry
W illCome ThisCentury ABOUT THE AUTHOR Now writing under the pen-name of HARUN YAHYA, Adnan Oktar was born in Ankara in 1956. Having completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara, he studied fine arts at Istan- bul's Mimar Sinan University and philosophy at Istanbul Univer- sity. Since the 1980s, he has published many books on political, scientific, and faith-related issues. Harun Yahya is well-known as the author of important works disclosing the imposture of evolu- tionists, their invalid claims, and the dark liaisons between Dar- winism and such bloody ideologies as fascism and communism. Harun Yahya’s works, translated into 63 different languages, con- stitute a collection for a total of more than 55,000 pages with 40,000 illustrations. His pen-name is a composite of the names Harun (Aaron) and Yahya (John), in memory of the two esteemed Prophets who fought against their peoples' lack of faith. The Prophet's seal on his books' cov- ers is symbolic and is linked to their contents. It represents the Qur'an (the Final Scripture) and Prophet Muhammad (saas), last of the prophets. Under the guidance of the Qur'an and the Sun- nah (teachings of the Prophet [saas]), the author makes it his purpose to disprove each fundamental tenet of irreligious ideologies and to have the "last word," so as to completely silence the objections raised against religion. He uses the seal of the final Prophet (saas), who attained ultimate wisdom and moral perfection, as a sign of his intention to offer the last word.

  • A Thousand and One Wives: Investigating the Intellectual History of the Exegesis of Verse Q 4:24
A THOUSAND AND ONE WIVES: INVESTIGATING THE INTELLECTUAL HISTORY OF THE EXEGESIS OF VERSE Q 4:24 A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Georgetown University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Arabic and Islamic Studies By Roshan Iqbal, M.Phil. Washington, DC July 15, 2015 Copyright 2015 by Roshan Iqbal All Rights Reserved ii A THOUSAND AND ONE WIVES: INVESTIGATING THE INTELLECTUAL HISTORY OF THE EXEGESIS OF VERSE Q 4:24 Roshan Iqbal, M.Phil. Thesis Adviser: Felicitas Opwis, Ph.D. ABSTRACT A Thousand and One Wives: Investigating the Intellectual History of the Exegesis of Verse 4:24 traces the intellectual legacy of the exegesis of Qur’an 4:24, which is used as the proof text for the permissibility of mut’a (temporary marriage). I ask if the use of verse 4.24 for the permissibility of mut’a marriage is justified within the rules and regulations of Qur’anic hermeneutics. I examine twenty Qur’an commentaries, the chronological span of which extends from the first extant commentary to the present day in three major Islamicate languages. I conclude that doctrinal self-identity, rather than strictly philological analyses, shaped the interpretation of this verse. As Western academia’s first comprehensive work concerning the intellectual history of mut’a marriage and sexual ethics, my work illustrates the power of sectarian influences in how scholars have interpreted verse 4:24. My dissertation is the only work in English that includes a plurality of voices from minor schools (Ibadi, Ashari, Zaidi, and Ismaili) largely neglected by Western scholars, alongside major schools, and draws from all available sub-genres of exegesis.

  • Shi'ism Jihad
Islam – Shi‘a The article will examine the origins of the Shi‘as and discuss their distinctive perspective on war. The term Shi‘a refers to the party of ‘Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad. The Shi‘as claimed that ‘Ali was the only legitimate successor (imam) to the Prophet Muhammad having been explicitly designated by him at Ghadir Khum and other occasions. The Shi‘as further restricted leadership of the community to the family (ahl al-bayt) of the Prophet. Such leadership was designated by the term imam and is passed on from father to blood successor through a mode of conferring titled nass. With the coming of ‘Ali to power in 656 CE, Shi‘ism emerged as an effective religious movement. The massacre of Husayn, the son of ‘Ali, and his forces at Kerbala during his uprising against the Caliph Yazid in 681 was an important milestone in Shi‘i history as it affirmed notions of injustices endured by the progeny of the Prophet and exacerbated a passion for martyrdom. Husayn’s activist movement was followed by other militant movements like those of Mukhtar b. ‘Ubayd al-Thaqafi (d. 687) and Zayd b. ‘Ali (d. 740), the grandson of Husayn. Shi‘i Theology and Jurisprudence Shi‘i theology and jurisprudence took definitive shape in the times of the fifth and sixth imams, Muhammad al-Baqir (d. 733-737) and Ja‘far al-Sadiq (d. 765). The later, in particular, was largely responsible for the construction of a Shi‘i legal edifice and the formulation of the Shi‘i doctrine of the imamate.

  • Islam in Apocalyptic Perspective by Thomas S
46 Copyright © 2010 Center for Christian Ethics at Baylor University Islam in Apocalyptic Perspective BY THOMAS S. KIDD The history of American apocalyptic thought about Islam offers much reason for discouragement. Evangelical Christians have been too eager to gloss biblical prophecy with extra-biblical assertions and morbid scenarios of Islam’s demise. ince the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, many Christian Americans have expressed new interest in Islam. Often this interest is Sjust a matter of seeking more information about Muslims, the Prophet Muhammad, and the Qur’an. But many American evangelical and funda- mentalist Christians have placed increased focus on Islam and the apoca- lypse. The horrific collapse of the World Trade Center towers might well turn one’s thoughts to the apocalypse, but something more than horror is at work among these conservative Protestants. For many of them, Islam and jihadist terror seems to fit into long-held ideas about the last days before the return of Christ. Although the details have changed over time, American Christians have actually been speculating about connections between Islam and the apocalypse for centuries. The level of apocalyptic interest generated by 9/11 is new. The pattern of thought is not. For centuries, Protestant Christians have seen Islam as one of the chief religions over which Christ would triumph in the last days. In early Ameri- ca, colonists routinely commented on Islam, its supposedly duplicitous and violent nature, and its coming demise. Colonial Americans lived in a mental world where Islam was perceived as a major threat to Christianity, especial- ly because of the imperial ambitions of the Ottoman Turks, and the aggres- sions of the Barbary pirates.
