Kennelly was elected Secretary of the State of Connecticut in 1978 and has served as a member of the Hartford Court of Common Council and chairman of the Hartford City Council Education, Public Safety and Zoning Committee and Vice Chairman of the Hartford Commission on Aging. During her long career in government she has served as a Hartford repre sentative and Executive Committee Secretary of the Capitol Region Council of Governments; as President of the Catholic Family Services Board of Directors and as Connecticut Representative to the National Advocate’s Committee on the Arts, Washington, D.C. She is a former member of the State Commission on Human Services; the Hartford Democratic Town Committee and the Alumnae Board of Directors of Trinity College, Washington, D.C. A graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy, West Hartford, Mrs. Kennelly earned a BA degree in Economics from Trinity College, Wash ington, D.C. and was graduated from the Harvard-Radcliffe School of Business Administration. She received a masters degree in government from Trinity College, Hartford. She is currently serving as member of the National Association of Secre taries of State and Chairwoman of its Administrative Codes and Regis ters Committee; the Council of State Governments’ Eastern Regional Conference Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Hartford Architecture Conservancy. Sacred Heart University bestows an extraordinary honor upon itself as it confers its highest accolade, the degree of Doctor of honoris causa, on BARBARA B. KENNELLY DOROTHY B. LARSON Dorothy B. Larson has been a leader in civic and philanthropic organiza tions in southwestern Connecticut and has volunteered her time and en ergy freely, thinking first of the organizations she has served. She was elected to the Board of Directors of the Museum of Art, Science and Industry and is Secretary of the International Institute of Connecti cut, a member of the Board of Directors of the Samuel Staples Free School and the Bridgeport Area Foundation. Mrs. Larson served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Society and Chairman of the President’s Advisory Council of Fairfield University. She is a Trustee of St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation and Secretary of the Advisory Board of the Bridge port Regional Center, a state agency serving the retarded. Mrs. Larson received a degree in Sociology from Jackson College for Women, Tufts University and is a resident of Easton. She is a past presi dent of the Parents and Friends of Retarded Citizens, Inc. and is present ly co-chairman of the Residential Committee and a member of the Board of Directors. Maridot Manor, a Home for Retarded Young Women, was named in honor of Mrs. Larson and Mary Faust. In addition to her many activities Mrs. Larson is a member of the Board of the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County and the Board of Directors of the Junior Achievement Program for Western Connecticut. LARSON SISTER DANIEL MARIE McCABE Sr. Daniel Marie McCabe has had a long and distinguished career in nursing and as a hospital administrator, devoting her life to the service of people. She is a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery and Administrator of St. Joseph Hospital in Stamford. Sr. Daniel Marie graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and earned her BS degree in nursing from the College of Mary Immacu late and a masters degree in Hospital Administration from St. Louis Uni versity. She was elected a Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators and attended the Theological Renewal Program, Pontif ical Institute, Regina Mundi, affiliated with Gregorian University, Rome, Italy. She has served as chairman of Governor Thomas Meskill’s Task Force on Long-Term Care, Commission on Hospitals and Health Care; the Governor’s Advisory Council, Emergency Medical Services and was ap pointed by former Governor Ella Grasso to a three year term on the Board of Licensure of Nursing Home Administrators. Sr. Daniel Marie is currently serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Connect icut Hospital Association, the Public Policy Committee of the United Way of Stamford and the Building Committee of the Connecticut Hospi tal Association. MEYER A leader in the field of pharmaceutical development, Fred J. Meyer is President and Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz United States, Inc. of Greenwich. Through his work at Sandoz, he is helping to alleviate human suffering through the development of drugs for diabetics, for those who have been diagnosed with acute mental illness and for patients who require medica tion for migraine headaches. Mr. Meyer was born in Walenstadt (Canton St. Gall) Switzerland and is now a citizen of Switzerland and the United States. He earned his M.Sc. degree at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. While work ing as a geologist in the mountains and jungles of West Africa he decided to apply for post graduate studies at the Harvard Business School. He was accepted and graduated cum laude. His contributions to the development of pharmaceutical products and his untiring dedication to the business community as a corporate officer have been recognized by the international business community. Mr. Meyer is an avid athlete and served as President of the Swiss National Sports Association and earned champion status in Switzerland in the shot put. In his leisure hours he can be found hang-gliding or climbing the Green Mountain range near his summer home in Vermont. Sacred Heart University bestows an extraordinary honor upon itself as it confers its highest accolade, the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, upon FRED J. MEYER LEO NEVAS Attorney Leo Nevas is being honored by Sacred Heart University for his outstanding contributions to peace through law and to human rights. Mr. Nevas was an original member of the Planning Committee of the World Peace Through Law Center and served as a member of the Plan ning Committee and Finance Committee of the Center. He served as a representative at the United Nations of the World Peace Through Law Center and the International League for the Rights of Man. He was elected chairman of the Non-Governmental Organization of the Human Rights Committee of the UN and as Chairman of the Con ference of the UN Representatives of the United Nations Association of the USA. Mr. Nevas graduated from the University of Michigan and received his LL.B. from the Cornell Law School. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and the Federal Courts. He was appointed Prosecuting Attorney and Judge of the Municipal Court of Westport and a member of the Executive Committee of the Municipal Court Assembly of Connecticut and the Connecticut Human Rights Commission. Mr. Nevas is now serving as Vice Chairman and member of the Board of Governors of the United Nations Association of the USA. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Norwalk Hospital, as a member
