EXCLUSIVEEXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWINTERVIEW

By Glenn Swift our years ago, Mindi Abair decided to give jazz a try. The music world hasn’t been the same since.

Abair’s release of It Just Happens That Way in 2003 on Verve Records was highly acclaimed by jazz aficionados and featured a single, “Lucy’s,” which quickly climbed its way to #1 on the charts. Later that year, Abair was named Best New Artist at the National Smooth Jazz Awards. She fol- lowed up the groundbreaking work the following year with a second CD on Verve, Come As You Are. The album was considerably different than the pre- vious one; once again, jazz gurus gave her high accolades.

But the best was yet to come.

Abair’s latest CD and third release with Verve, Life Less Ordinary, displays an even greater variety of arrangements than her first two. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and contains two #1 singles: “Bloom” and “True Blue.” Both tunes have become virtual smooth jazz anthems on FM stations across the country and helped launch a whirlwind of successful engagements around the country for the brilliant musi- cian.

“You always hope your record will do well, but to debut at #1 was really crazy. I mean all of a sudden everything broke loose. My band and I had so many book- ings it was manic. Who will be the next to threaten Bobby Brown's life? Whitney Houston...... 2/1 Osama bin Laden...... 3/1 Prince Frederic von Anhalt...... 5/1 His old group New Edition...... 10/1 Naomi Campbell...... 25/1

Between the Lines: If you recall, we did a "Hollywood & Line" column last summer about Osama bin Laden's crush on Whitney Houston. It totally FREAKED OUT Bobby Brown, her husband at the time. Apparently, Bobby B. is still freaked out because he has hired extra security to protect himself from bin Laden. When Bobby calls me, I think the plan is to tell him that ObL will probably not be leaving the cave in Pakistan any time soon, and even if he does, there's NO WAY Osama would get past the bouncers at the Vegas nightclubs where Double B. hangs out.

If Britney Spears is pregnant again, who is the father? K-Fed...... 2/1 Prince Frederic von Anhalt...... 5/1 Prince...... 20/1 Larry King...... 25/1

Between the Lines: Kevin Federline -- or K-Fed, as we call him out here in Vegas -- despite the squabbling over their existing kids, is the first choice, due to his legendary fertility. But this Prince Frederic von Anhalt is quite a show himself. If you're not familiar with Prince Freddy, he is the eighth husband of 90-year-old Zsa Zsa Gabor. He is also the same fella that claimed he had a 10-year-affair with Anna Nicole Smith, and was the father of her baby. Now FvA, who IS a reality show waiting to happen, claims he was attacked by three women who took his wallet, rings, watch, gold chain, and his clothes, leaving him handcuffed, NAKED, to the steering wheel of his Rolls-Royce. We were almost hooked on the story until we found out that a crew from "Entertainment Tonight" was there shortly, with a robe waiting for the prince.
