Ron Liepert – Calgary Signal Hill Constituency Outreach and Communications #2216 8561 8 A Ave SW Calgary, Alberta 403 292-6666 Message from Member of Parliament, Ron Liepert Albertans can get ready for a dose of election campaigning in 2019. Provincially we go to the polls at some point in the spring between March 1 and May 31, 2019. Alberta does not have a fixed election date but rather a fixed election period. The Premier will determine the exact date. This election will be an opportunity to pass judgement on Premier Notley’s four year NDP government. It will also be the first election in more than a decade where the two Conservative parties will be running one candidate under the United Conservative banner. In the past three elections candidates sought office running as Progressive Conservatives or Wildrose. This will also be the first real test for the Alberta Party as an alternative to either the UCP or NDP. This campaign will officially last for four weeks but realistically will be underway when elected officials return from the winter break. Canadians are scheduled to go to the polls on October 21, 2019 however, the Prime Minister could dissolve Parliament early and call an election at his choosing. Early in this new year several by-Elections will take place including Burnaby, B.C. where NDP leader Jagmeet Singh will be seeking election to the house. Regardless whether the Prime Minister sticks to the fixed date or calls a spring election, Finance Minister Morneau will present a budget early in the new year. This is the budget the Prime Minister promised would be balanced during the 2015 election campaign. It is unlikely the Finance Minister will be able to meet this promise since his fall economic update predicts a deficit that is increasing rather than shrinking. The federal budget situation is also likely to see revenue reductions in 2019 due to the energy crisis currently being experienced in Alberta’s energy sector. Albertans will have plenty of opportunities to get politically engaged in 2019. The Free Food in Alberta Locations vary. Email or phone for locations and times.
