Aug 09, Anne rated Thor: Volume 5 really liked it Shelves: graphic-novelscomicsmarvel-unlimitedread-in Oh god. I sniffled, choked, and leaked through the whole thing. I knew I would. Jane is still dying a little every time she picks up Mjolnir, only she can't seem to stop herself because shit always needs getting done. But her friends have different ideas about what's important and what's not. So, they stage an intervention and let her know that if she goes Thor one more time And for a minute or two, she decides to follow their impassioned pleas to take care of her health and leave the superheroing to them for a little while. Unfortunately for everyone, Malekith is still out there, stirring the pot and turning some really bad shit loose on Asgardia that even the gods can't defeat by themselves. And considering the title of this volume, you can probably guess whether Jane decides to throw the lightning around one more time or not. This was a really good farewell to Jane as Thor. I thought Aaron did the character Thor: Volume 5, and I was happy with the way it all went down. I have to say, I wasn't the biggest fan of this run. A little because I didn't think Jane would ever really be Thor in any real way, but mainly because of the cancer storyline. It's just something that I didn't want to read about, and that is admittedly just a personal preference that has nothing Thor: Volume 5 to do with the quality of the writing. Anyway, that's the main reason it took me a while to finish this one out. I'm actually really glad this has come to an end because now I'm looking Thor: Volume 5 to finishing out the War of Realms stuff and seeing what comes next for everyone. View all 16 comments. Mar 23, Sam Quixote rated it really liked it. The volume is bookended by two anthology-style bumper issues — The Mighty Thor and At the Gates of Valhalla a way cooler title for this final book! Eh, who cares about the fat Asgardian whether he turns evil or not? And turning a good character evil temporarily is such a hack move. This War of Realms storyline Thor: Volume 5 is doing nothing for me — Malekith shit-stirring as usual, snore. So: onto the main event! And then Mangog, the ultimate judgment of the gods, lands on the Bifrost Bridge to destroy Asgard once and for all. This sounds like a job for… oh. But will she? Jane and Odinson kissing in the burning ruins of Asgard was just fucking cool and seeing the creative team behind the series having a drink at the bar while Thor and Hercules arm-wrestled was a cute Easter Egg. Well done, sir! It is a mighty ending though — for now! May 22, Chad rated it it was amazing Shelves: marvel-unlimited Jane Foster goes out on top as Thor. If she takes the hammer one more time, she will die. But Mangog has returned to wipe out Asgardia Jason Aaron build this up magnificently. He had me devouring this to see what happened. Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson are at the top of their game. I'd never heard of Dauterman before his Thor run and now he's one of the top comic artists out there. I love his cinematic eye and clean lines. Wilson's colors make each page pop. These guys actually have me Jane Foster goes out on top as Thor. These guys actually have me interested in a mega crossover which rarely happens. Bring on War of the Realms! Oct 29, Cheese rated it really liked it. I loved the Thor: Volume 5 run, it was epic and full of Norse mythologies and fantastic characters, but Aaron has taken it Thor: Volume 5 another level. The main one obviously being Jane Foster. The best part was that the Godkiller is referenced throughout Thor: Volume 5 all those unanswered questions Thor: Volume 5 dangled in front of you and some are even answered. Like what happened to the Necrosword? Will it be used again? How did the gods rebuild after their numbers were dwindled so? What is the judgement of the gods? How was Mjolnir created? Does Mjolnir actually speak? Who did Thor sleep with to get 3 daughters? Are the gods unworthy? How come his arm is black but gold in the future? Will we see Thor: Volume 5 sun god Thor? When I finished this I was sad because I thought it was the end, but to thee I say nay! Odinson is now back in the Thor seat and the run continues! Essential Thor Vol. 5 | Essential Showcase The War of the Realms continues to spread. The armies of Roxxon attack the Vanir, and the armies of Muspelheim continue to rage against the Dwarves of Nidavellir. But it is the Mangog that comes for the people of Asgard. This is the final judgement against the gods. Jane angered that Cul and Odin do nothing, speaks out against them causing the All-Mother to finally awaken. In her weakened state, Jane collapses. Falcon, Dr. Strange, Roz Solomon, and the Odinson do their best Thor: Volume 5 convince her to see to her illness before saving the Realms from Malekith. But Jane would rather die on the battlefield than in a hospital bed. She defies them and transforms one final time to save Asgard from the Mangog. I had assumed the final judgment was the Phoenix and was surprised when it turned out to be the Mangog, Thor: Volume 5 new-to-me character. I have to say, I agree with her friends that if she fought her illness with the same vigor and determination, she would beat the cancer ravaging through her body, and Thor: Volume 5 be able to fight in the War of the Realms. Before she dies, Jane and the Odinson share one last kiss and admit that they still love another after all these years. There is a surprising twist I did not see coming. While the Mighty Thor dies, Jane does not, in fact, die. At least not permanently. Odin, finally seeing her for Thor: Volume 5 valiant woman she is, offers her a place in Valhalla for her sacrifice. Thor: Volume 5, Jane feels she has unfinished business, and Odin feels she may be right. Meanwhile, the Odinson cannot let the woman he loves go and attempts to use his lightning to bring her back. Odin decides to help his son, for maybe together they can bring back this remarkable woman. Thor: Volume 5, they find her in New York City about to go Thor: Volume 5 the medical center to finally fight her cancer. These three make an interesting addition. I really want to know more about these young Goddess of Thunder. Who, exactly, is their grandmother? Also, my boss was already thinking of doing a Thor cosplay, but upon seeing these young ladies, I think we should team up to do two of them instead. Jasan Aaron is the mind behind the Jane Foster as Thor. I Thor: Volume 5 thoroughly enjoyed this comic, as I did his run on the Star Wars comic. I look forward to seeing this story arc continue with the Odinson back in action as Thor. The main artist in this volume is Russell Dauterman. He has completed all the issues in this run. I also want to thank him for including the main superhero character with a severe illness, in this case, metastatic breast cancer.
