WELCOME! WELCOME TO WORSHIP: It is our joy to welcome you to worship today, in-person and from wherever you may be viewing. We give thanks for whatever brought you, and pray that you may experience the love of God surrounding you and upholding you as we gather together online to give thanks to God through Word and Sacrament. IF YOU ARE WORSHIPING FROM HOME, we invite you to find a comfortable place for worship. Get some crackers or bread and something to drink so that we can share Communion. Light a candle if you have one. During this heightened time of awareness and prevention regarding Coronavirus, we would like to let you know..... • As part of normal practices, the Guild washes hands prior to preparing the Communion supplies and ensures that common use items are cleaned for use weekly. • In addition to these practices, the Altar Guild is also: ◊ sanitizing trays and bowls before and after services. ◊ wiping down the altar, railing, and baptismal font before and after services. • Communion is by individual kits. • Worship participants wash hands and use hand sanitizer before, during, and after worship. • At the Peace, we share a verbal “Peace be with You” to maintain physical distancing. • We are wiping down “common touch” areas in the Sanctuary, such as the armrests and tops of pews, before each service. • Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building for use. • Frequent and thorough handwashing is encouraged. • “Common touch” areas are being sanitized daily. • Furnaces run to help filter the air in the building. HOLY COMMUNION is God’s Word of love made visible in bread and wine. Individual kits have been provided for Communion Distribution. These cups have wine or juice in the top and bread on the bottom. When the is served during the service simply peel back the seal for each part at the appropriate time. There are receptacles in the Narthex at the same tables you picked up the servings from – please deposit the remnants from the kit there. WE WELCOME CHILDREN IN WORSHIP and offer a variety of resources to include them: • “Younger Disciples Tips” are in the bulletin with ideas to engage children in worship. • “A Time for Younger Disciples” during worship invites all children to listen to a message. • Links to download and print an activity sheet for Sunday are in each week’s Trendings enews.

VIDEO and AUDIO RECORDING IN PROGRESS Saint Andrew’s livestreams and records its worship services to YouTube, and video and audio recording is currently in progress. It is possible that both video and audio of worshippers in the Saint Andrew’s Sanctuary may appear on the YouTube livestream/recording.

REOPENING FOR IN-PERSON WORSHIP: We are excited for the reopening of in-person worship at Saint Andrew’s! We continue with one service each Sunday at 9:30 am, in person and with a simultaneous livestream to our YouTube channel. The initial number of in-person attendees is limited to 40. However, we expect to gradually increase that number as we refine our processes and make adjustments based on state and county guidelines as they are modified for indoor gatherings. Reservations open each Monday at 6:00 pm for the following Sunday. If you call the church after hours, please leave a message that includes your name, phone number, and the number of people who will be worshiping. Details about worshiping in-person and an overview of the processes we’ve put in place to maintain safety for everyone can be found at https://salc.church/reopening. 4 Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church; Bellevue, WA | www.SALC.church Fifth Sunday after Pentecost June 27, 2021 WELCOME to WORSHIP

THE FLOWERS are given to the Glory of God from the Altar Guild with thanks for God’s steadfast patience, forgiveness, mercy, and love. COMMEMORATIONS: Cyril, Bishop of , died 444 June 27 Cyril defended the orthodox teachings about the person of Christ. After a conflict involving Christian leaders of the time, it was decided that Cyril’s interpretation, that Christ’s person included both divine and human natures, was correct. Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons, died around 202 June 28 This important early church leader tried very hard to hold to the faith handed down by the apostles. Irenaeus was one of the first to speak of the church as catholic, or linked together. Peter and Paul, Apostles June 29 These two strong-willed apostles are the pillars of the church in the first generation after Christ. Peter was one of the Twelve, one who both offered a glorious confession of faith and later denied knowing Jesus. Paul once led the persecution of , then was converted and helped bring the faith to non-Jewish people. Catherine Winkworth, died 1878; John Mason Neale, died 1866; hymn translators July 1 Neale was an English priest who specialized in the translation of and Greek hymns into English. Winkworth lived in and devoted herself to translating German hymns. Almost all English-speaking hymnals include many of their translations. Thomas, Apostle July 3 Though frequently remembered as “doubting Thomas,” this apostle also demonstrated a willingness to suffer and die with Jesus (John 11:16), and finally claimed the risen Christ as y“m Lord and my God!” By tradition, he later worked as a missionary in . NOMINATING COMMITTEE

We have learned that several members elected to the 2021 Nominating Committee are no longer able to serve. We are seeking 3 – 4 people willing to assist in finding candidates for the 2022 Congregation Council, to be elected in an Annual Meeting in January 2022. Recognizing that this work may be particularly challenging this year, the current Council has pledged to help source potential candidates. This work would likely begin in early Fall and is incredibly important to the life of our congregation. If you, or someone you know, would be willing to serve on the Nominating Committee, contact Carolynn Ferris. SHARING GOD’S GENEROSITY ~ STEWARDSHIP

C u r r e n t O p p o r t u n i t i e s Our focus this year is generosity, a celebration of a generous God and our response as God’s people. As we grow together in Christ to love and serve all people, we learn how to live and share those blessings. We continue with monthly Generosity Lessons that families can share at home together. Each lesson features sections on how “We Welcome”, “We Gather”, “We Hear”, “We Share”, “We Send”, and “We Live”.
