The advent of Mahatma Gandhi’s (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) leadership in the Nationalist Movement made a turning point in the Freedom Struggle in India against the British rule. Worldwide economic depression in between the two World Wars and the oppressive colonial rule intensified the rural base of the Freedom Struggle in Midnapore, the largest District in the then Eastern India.
