Glen 2.11 Slaughtneil 2.01 Minor Football: On Tuesday past our minors travelled to Celtic Park for the semi‐final of the championship. Played in perfect conditions, Glen started very brightly with an Alex Doherty goal. Both teams then traded points with Tiarnan Flanagan, Jack Doherty, Conor Glass, Tiernan McCusker and Cathal Gallagher among the Glen scorers. With half time approaching Dungiven got the perfect tonic when they hit the Glen net. The initial effort was brilliantly saved by Callum Mullan‐Young however the Dungiven attacker was on hand to palm the rebound to the net. Half time score Glen 1.07 Dungiven 1.08. Glen made the perfect start right from the throw in with Jack Doherty racing through to fire to the Dungiven net to grab a lead that Glen never surrendered.

  • Every Body Active 2020 Update
    Every Body Active 2020 Update Disability Coach During April Fit 4 U co-ordinates a range of daytime physical activities and sports. Fit 4 U is funded by the Public Health Agency and led by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust in partnership with MUDC and Sport NI funded Everybody Active 2020 coaches. The Fit 4 U Project aims to empower people with physical/ sensory and/or learning disabilities to improve their health. Some of the activities include Archery, Boccia, New Age Kurling, Group Based Exercises programmes, Boxercise, Walking Groups and Indoor Golf etc. May saw the continuation of the Mid Ulster Boccia Club in Cookstown Leisure Centre. The Mid Ulster Boccia Club runs on a fortnightly basis and each session lasts one hour (6-7pm). The club gives participants with physical disabilities the opportunity to compete for the club trophies in a round robin tournament. Please see pictures below of some of our Trophy winners to date. Multi-Sport Coach April saw the commencement of the Schools Multi Sports Programme, which was run in conjunction with local school Tobermore PS and took place every Wednesday afternoon at the school. The children enjoyed the range of activities on offer. May saw the commencement of the Fit Workplace Programme, which was run in conjunction with local workplace South West College in Dungannon. The programme took place every Tuesday evening after work for 6 weeks. Coach Development Program The 2018 /19 Coach Development Program has now finished. Coach Development Courses Numbers of Coaches attending 11 169 Summer 2019 Summer planning is completed and an online bookings system up and running through the Council website.

    Ulster GAA SPECIAL GUEST PROFILE GAA Delegates to the O‟Neills Ulster GAA Coaching and Games Development Conference welcomes Paul McCloskey a boxer and a GAA man. Paul has taken time out of his busy schedule to tell us about his experiences in GAA and in Boxing and we are sure he will have a few tips he will give us as coaches. Paul was born 3 August 1979 in Dungiven, Northern Ireland) is an Irish southpaw professional boxer who fights in the light welterweight division. Paul is the former Irish senior amateur champion, former British light- welterweight champion and current European light-welterweight champion. Gaelic games Paul played both Gaelic football and hurling at underage and briefly at sen- ior level for the local clubs in Dungiven - St. Canice's Dungiven and Kevin Lynchs respectively. He was part of the Dungiven side that won the Derry Senior Football Championship and Ulster Senior Club Football Champion- ship in 1997. He has played along side Derry greats Brian McGilligan, Joe Brolly, Eugene Kelly and Kieran McKeever. We are delighted that he has taken the time to speak to us at the Conference. Amateur career Paul boxed out of the St. Canices ABC and fought for Ireland at amateur level and was a three-time Irish champion and five-time senior Ulster champion at in the light welter- weight division. He failed to qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics by ending up in third place at the 2nd AIBA European 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in War- saw, Poland. Professional career He turned professional in March 2005 on the undercard of a bill that included Eamonn Magee and Neil Sinclair at the King's Hall, Belfast.
