No April function on 11 April 2009 (Easter long weekend) Den lysere side af Nytårsforsætter

Svar: Her skal man forstå logisk effektivitet.

When did you arrive in Australia? I arrived in Australia early 1987. Did you speak English when you arrived? Yes I spoke English when I arrived here, but I will have to admit, the slang gave me a bit of trouble. Where do you come from in Denmark? I was born in Aarhus and grew up on Djursland (Termestrup Hede). I moved to in 1983 and discovered the world. Why did you migrate to Australia? I had got the taste for skiing (Snowskiing that is). And a couple of friends and I had this brilliant idea to go to New Zealand and work at a ski resort (Northern Hemisphere ski season had just finished). I never made it to New Zealand, but meet a couple of Australians in Copenhagen and they offered me a job. I decided to come out for one year, and here I am nearly 22 years later. What do you miss from Denmark? I miss my family and friends of course, and the long summer nights – they can keep the short winter days. Do you still have many Danish traditions in your home? We celebrate a Danish Christmas on the 24th of December that is about it. That is why I got involved with The Danish Club, to give our children more exposure to Danes and Danish Culture. Do you see yourself as Danish or Australian? I still see myself as Danish but I have properly becoming Australianized over the years. What do you like most about Australia? I love the lifestyle we have here and the great people and their humor. When I get off the plan and see the blue sky at Brisbane Airport I really appreciate what we have out here. What don’t you like about Australia? Snakes – Snakes and Snakes. What’s your favourite Internet site? That would have to be Google – you want to know something, just Google it and the answer is there. Favourite author? I don’t get to read much these days – young children have put a stop to that, hopefully it will come back. It used to be Robert Ludlum. Favourite spot in Australia? We love camping and boating, we often go to Peel Island (Horseshoe bay) and Lake Cootharaba. First Job? My first job was at Mørke Cafeteria, where I worked weekends and holiday. It was the local waterhole, probably not the best place for a 15 year old girl, but they all looked after me. Secret talent? Not a talent yet, but I am getting better at reversing the caravan – still no good at directing Ray. Paella and the Danes – a historical overview By Kim Tvede

I N V I O L A T A www.inviolata.dk HAPPY NEW YEAR From Søren

During the first six months of our 2008/09 club year we had some great events varying from the traditional ‘Det Store Kolde Bord’ to the annual Moose Hunt together with the Swedish Club. Not to mention the hundreds of æbleskiver baked for the Roma Street Multicultural Festival. We introduced a new tradition with our Julestue where young and old had lots of fun baking Christmas cookies (and tasting a few), making Christmas decorations and dancing and singing with KUPALEJA. I thought the Christmas Tree looked particularly happy this year.

The program for 2009 is already looking great; our first event is a mixture of our traditional Fastelavn party coupled with a new event later on the same day, a paella fiesta complete with flamenco dancing.

Our new member service has been busy lately with many new members joining up to be part of the club activities, and we encourage all new and old members to get actively involved with the selection, development and management of functions. All ideas and input is welcome and if you feel like participating in a specific event, please contact myself or another committee member.

We also thank the many volunteers who lent a hand during our functions with tidying up or just helping out – any help is most welcome, so please keep it coming.

We have been grateful for the great support by members for the functions. It’s very encouraging for the committee members and all the helpers to see full support for the functions put on for the club members and this is also how we can all help generate the funds required to keep the club going and in good shape for the future.

The focus has also been on attracting more tenants to use the facilities and we have enjoyed increased interest and demand for the club, which is also contributing towards our running costs. Our Swiss Club members have been very active in assisting with more tenants and attracting more functions to the club, which is excellent and if you hear of any activities seeking a venue, please let the committee know about it.
