ATLANTA HAWKS NAME KENNY GATTISON an ASSISTANT COACH Longtime NBA Player and Coach Added to Larry Drew’S Staff FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, July 28, 2010 CONTACT: Arthur Triche, Jon Steinberg or Jason Roose, Hawks Media Relations (404) 878-3800 ATLANTA HAWKS NAME KENNY GATTISON AN ASSISTANT COACH Longtime NBA Player and Coach Added to Larry Drew’s Staff ATLANTA, GA ----- The Atlanta Hawks have named Kenny Gattison as an assistant coach, according to Executive Vice President/General Manager Rick Sund. Per team policy, the terms were not disclosed. “I’m excited about the opportunity to join Larry Drew’s staff here in Atlanta,” Gattison said. “They have a young and talented, yet experienced nucleus that won 53 games last year. I look forward to helping our players improve individually and collectively.” “Kenny brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” said Hawks head coach Larry Drew. “As a big man in this league, he was a blue-collar player with a great work ethic, and those skills have carried over into his coaching style. We’re fortunate to add his voice to our staff.” Most recently an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets from 2003-09, Gattison has also spent time on the coaching staff of the New Jersey Nets (1996-98) and Old Dominion University (2001-03), his alma mater. Selected in the third round of the 1986 NBA Draft (55 th overall) by Phoenix, Gattison spent nine seasons with the Suns, Hornets and Grizzlies. He appeared in 494 regular season games, averaging 4.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg, hitting .520 from the field. He is the Hornets’ franchise career leader in field goal percentage, while ranking fifth in blocks, offensive rebounds and games played. The Wilmington, NC native enjoyed a decorated career at Old Dominion, where he was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year as a senior, finishing as the conference’s all-time leading rebounder. Atlanta Hawks 2010-11 lower level season tickets are available now starting at less than $23 per game. For more information please call 1-866-715-1500 or visit www.hawksseasontickets.com. The Hawks, a member of the National Basketball Association since 1949, play in the Southeast Division, along with the Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards. ### .

In 2018, the National Basketball Retired Players Association will go all-in in an effort to pursue our mission of becoming a leading voice in the basketball community. We have all the resources in place to execute on our long-range plan, and that is exactly what we will accomplish in this coming year. As President & CEO, I am pledging that this will be our biggest year to date, and I hope that you can all realize the opportunity that is in front of each of you. In 2017, we made three key areas our focus for the year. As a group, we chose to attack our mission of (1) Charity (2) Programming (3) Relationships. As I dwell on our accomplishments over the past 12 months and reflect on the year ahead, I am so thrilled to see how far we’ve come and the bright future we have yet to realize. Here is the progress we’ve made so far: • In 2017, the NBRPA distributed over $250K through our Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund, pushing the year-to-date total to $2 million.

Beaty, and Ed McPherson, brothers one and all Prologue THE DEFENDER’S EYES grow wide, as they well should. He’s about to face the kind of kinesthetic brilliance that first motivated humans to invent slow- motion technology—something, anything, that would allow them to review exactly what happens when movement plays tricks on the mind. The setting is painfully familiar. Something in the offensive structure has broken down at the other end of the floor, igniting a fast break. The entire defense is retreating. The defender has sprinted back down the floor and, as he turns, he sees the blur. The dark form in red has the ball, dribbling and winding his way through the chaos at great speed. He crosses the ball over from right to left and draws it up in two hands just off his left hip in midstride. At this exact moment, the tongue falls out of his face. Sometimes, it shows just slightly between the teeth, but at this moment, the full tongue drops grotesquely, like some comic doll silently mocking the defender.
