Per team policy, the terms were not disclosed. “I’m excited about the opportunity to join Larry Drew’s staff here in Atlanta,” Gattison said. “They have a young and talented, yet experienced nucleus that won 53 games last year. I look forward to helping our players improve individually and collectively.” “Kenny brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” said Hawks head coach Larry Drew. “As a big man in this league, he was a blue-collar player with a great work ethic, and those skills have carried over into his coaching style. We’re fortunate to add his voice to our staff.” Most recently an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets from 2003-09, Gattison has also spent time on the coaching staff of the New Jersey Nets (1996-98) and Old Dominion University (2001-03), his alma mater. Selected in the third round of the 1986 NBA Draft (55 th overall) by Phoenix, Gattison spent nine seasons with the Suns, Hornets and Grizzlies. He appeared in 494 regular season games, averaging 4.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg, hitting .520 from the field. He is the Hornets’ franchise career leader in field goal percentage, while ranking fifth in blocks, offensive rebounds and games played. The Wilmington, NC native enjoyed a decorated career at Old Dominion, where he was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year as a senior, finishing as the conference’s all-time leading rebounder.
