The narrators enter to set the scene. At the palace gates, townspeople eagerly await the arrival of the royal family -- for at long last, today is the day they will learn who Princess Jasmine’s future husband will be! She wants to be the one deciding who she marries and when. The Sultan reminds her that the “law is the law,” and the law says she must marry a prince...by tomorrow. Just then, we hear the police calling “thief, thief!” A loaf of bread has been stolen! Jasmine, wishing to run away, recognizes this opportunity and escapes into the chaos. • Story Planning As Exploratory Creativity: Techniques for Expanding the Narrative Search Space
Story Planning as Exploratory Creativity 1 Story Planning as Exploratory Creativity: Techniques for Expanding the Narrative Search Space Mark O. RIEDL Institute for Creative Technologies University of Southern California 13274 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292 USA [email protected] R. Michael YOUNG Department of Computer Science North Carolina State University Raleigh, NC 27695 USA [email protected] Abstract The authoring of fictional stories is considered a creative process. The purpose of most story authoring is not to invent a new style or genre of story that will be accepted by the population but to invent a single narrative that is novel enough to be tellable. Computational story generation systems are more limited than human authors in the space of narratives that can be considered because it is often the case that story generation systems are constrained to operate within a fixed representa- tion of the story world. These limitations can impact whether a story generation system is considered creative or not. In this paper, we de- scribe a story planning system, Fabulist. Fabulist however is constrained by the world model input by the system user. We present two algorithms that enable story planning systems such as Fabulist to break outside the bounds of the initial world model in order to search a larger space of narratives. Keywords Exploratory Creativity, Story Generation, Narrative Intel- ligence 2 Mark O. RIEDL and R.M. YOUNG §1 Introduction Narrative as entertainment, in the form of oral, written, or visual stories, plays a central role in our social and leisure lives.

  • Aladdin Monologues
ALADDIN MONOLOGUES Please choose ONE of the following monologues to use for your audition. Try to memorize it if you can, and put LOTS of expression into it. Feel free to read whatever part you like, but realize the Directors may think you are better suited for one of the other roles. Give it your best! ALADDIN: (Speaking to Jasmine) Why would I steal a loaf of bread? Gee, I dunno. Acute hunger pains? Lightness of the head? Rude growling noises from the stomach? All of the above? I can see you’re not from around here. You’re too nice and too scared. This is Agrabah, hungry and angry. When you’re trapped here, you get used to it. So, you don’t want to tell me where you’re from. Fine. But I bet wherever it is, it’s – well it’s gotta be – beautiful! ALADDIN: (Talking to Himself in the cave) I don’t like this being a prisoner! But I do like Jasmine. I mean “The Princess”! UGH! I must’ve sounded so stupid! Then again, what does it matter? I’m never gonna see her again. Me, the “street rat”! Besides, she deserves a prince. Or at least someone better than me. Oh why did I ever meet her? (Pause) Boy, I’m glad I met her! Look at all this junk! I bet no one’s been in here for years. Huh, a lamp. (picks it up) Something’s written on it. Let’s see here…. GENIE: (Coming up from the lamp) Oy! Ten thousand years in a tin can’ll give you SUCH a crick in the neck! (Cracks his neck) Okay, that’s better! (to Aladdin) C’mon kid, what’s it gonna be? Cash, camels, Casbahs? You must want something… Hey! What’d you say your name was? “Aladdin” huh? He speaks! Okay, this is going to be a snap! May I call you “Ali”? You know, Al, you’re a lot smaller than my last master.

  • Router Compatibility
ROUTER COMPATIBILITY Q1: What type of Wi-Fi router do I need? A: Your Wi-Fi router must meet this specification: 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz with WPA2 or WPA Security. Q2: I have an old router that only supports WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption. Will Aladdin Connect work with this? A: No. The WEP standard was introduced in 1999 and retired in 2004. WPA encryption was introduced in 2003 to address the security issues related to WEP. The latest standard is WPA2. If you are still using WEP, we highly recommend that you upgrade your router in order to have the latest in modern security. Aladdin Connect does work with both WPA and WPA2. Q3: My garage is not very close to the router in my house. Will Aladdin Connect still work for me? A: It depends on your Wi-Fi router, construction of your home, number of walls that the signal must pass through, and other variables. You should test the strength of your Wi-Fi signal before installing the unit. One way is to take your smart device to the garage and see what kind of signal you are picking up from your router. There are also free apps that could help detect your signal strength although Genie does not specifically endorse any of them. If the signal is weak, you can relocate your router closer to the garage, or purchase a Wi-Fi extender at your local electronics store or online. The extender needs to meet the same specification as the router: 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz with WPA2 or WPA security.
