Dear Rally family, dear friends, Welcome to issue six of the FIA Rally Newsletter, which we are pleased to send out following last week’s online meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on October 9, 2020. Inside are details of the new eighth and final round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship, the planned calendar for the 2021 WRC, plus an update on some of the recent regulation changes. From a Regional Rally perspective, we are happy that the FIA Middle East Rally Championship title will be awarded in 2020 following a change to the points-scoring system. We are also humbled by the efforts of the Rally of Lebanon organisers to keep moving ahead with their event in November, despite the devastating explosion in Beirut in August and the suffering and disruption that it has caused. Continuing the Regional Rally theme, we are enthused by the progress of Rally3 with the first car, a Ford Fiesta Rally3 from M-Sport Poland, coming to life during a summer of test and development. An update on the work undertaken by the Rally Safety Task Force and how it helped with the successful running of three events in Croatia, San Marino and Portugal can be found in this edition. Everyone in the Rally Department is very proud that the Sporting Regulations for FIA Rally Star have been approved with momentum really building up following the publication of a detailed set of guidelines to help ASNs around the world organise the initial talent detection events. FIA Rally Star will help to uncover and nurture future world champions by encouraging mass participation in the sport at grassroots level. -

Rally Turkey – Day Three Report Hyundai Motorsport has registered a double podium in Rally Turkey, the fifth round of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Thierry Neuville finished in second place and took the maximum five Power Stage points, ahead of Sébastien Loeb, who claimed third overall - his first podium since Chile 2019. Ott Tänak brought his difficult Rally Turkey to a more positive conclusion with four Power Stage points, as the team maintains second in the manufacturers’ championship. ASPARAN, TURKEY, Sep. 20, 2020 — Hyundai Motorsport has concluded Rally Turkey with a double podium finish on a dramatic final day in which both Thierry Neuville and Sébastien Loeb picked up punctures on the opening stage. With the longest test of the entire event - the 38.15km Çetibeli - run twice on Sunday morning, in addition to the shorter 6.28km Marmaris test, it was never going to be a straight-forward finish to the rally. However, issues for the crews during the opening run were not a welcome addition to the script. Overnight leaders Neuville and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul saw their 33-second advantage eradicated as they were forced to stop to change a tyre mid-stage. Loeb and Daniel Elena, too, were struck by tyre misfortune as they nursed their Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC through the final kilometres with a puncture, losing over a minute of time. They weren’t the only crews to experience trouble in the first run through Çetibeli, which transformed the overall classification. On the first pass through Marmaris, Neuville took an emphatic stage win to reclaim second overall, behind new rally leader Elfyn Evans, with Loeb in fourth overall - less than five seconds from the podium. -

Hyundai Motorsport Set to Go Electric Hyundai Motorsport has begun work on an electric race car, heralding a new era of motorsport for the company It is the first-ever electric vehicle to be created by Hyundai Motorsport from its Alzenau-based headquarters The car will make its first appearance on the media day at the International Motor Show (IAA) in September. ALZENAU, August 6, 2019 – Hyundai Motorsport has begun work on its first ever electric race car in an exciting new project that will herald a new motorsport era for the company. The car, which has been designed and built at Hyundai Motorsport’s headquarters in Alzenau, Germany, will break cover for the first time on September 10, the media day of the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The move to electric continues the growth of Hyundai Motorsport, which has become well established in rallying and circuit racing since its inception in 2012. The multiple rally-winning WRC team, now in its sixth season, is currently leading a closely fought Manufacturers’ Championship. The company also boasts a successful Customer Racing division, established in September 2015, which has developed the competitive i20 R5, i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR cars that have between them claimed victories and championships in motorsport series around the world. The first glimpses of the new car can be seen in videos published on Hyundai Motorsport’s Social Media channels, offering a hint of what is to come at the official reveal next month. Mirroring the move towards hybrid technology and electrification in the automotive industry, motorsport has also ventured into new territory in recent years with the introduction of electric and hybrid series and regulations. -

A RENAULT ‘FAMILY’ Jean Rédélé was the first-born son of Madeleine Prieur and Emile Rédélé, a Renault dealer based in Dieppe and a former mechanic of Ferenc Szisz – the first Renault Frères ‘factory driver’, winner of the Grand Prix de la Sarthe in 1906 at Le Mans and runner-up in the Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. in Dieppe in 1907. Louis Renault himself had hired Emile Rédélé right at the beginning of the 20th Century. At the end of the First World War, at the request of Louis Renault, the young Emile Rédélé settled in Dieppe and opened a Renault dealership there in rue Thiers. Two years later, Jean-Emile- Amédée Rédélé was born on May 17, 1922. After completing his studies in Normandy, Jean Rédélé took his Baccalauréat exam during the Second World War and came into contact with people as diverse as Antoine Blondin, Gérard Philipe and Edmond de Rothschild. The Loudon-clear guide to… John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally How can this be the penultimate round of the British Rally Championship already? After a year away, the successful return of British rallying’s top flight has been the talk of 2016. The final two chapters both involve the Irish Sea. The last round runs on one of world motorsport’s most famous islands, the Isle of Man, but this week we’re overflying Douglas for a second trip of the season to Northern Ireland and the Ulster Rally. This rally offers a similar challenge to that of round two, the Circuit of Ireland, with the winner needing to find that perfect blend of speed and precision in what are likely to be some of the most changeable conditions and grip levels of the season. All eyes will, of course, be on Elfyn Evans as he chases a second British title for the Evans’ household, following father Gwyndaf’s 1996 success. But it’s also well worth keeping an eye on what’s certain to be another enthralling installment of the Junior BRC battle as homegrown heroes Rob Duggan and Gus Greensmith attempt to stave off the Nordic challenge of Sindre Furuseth and Mattias Adielsson. FIA RALLY CAR PYR MID 2021 EDITION FOREWORD Dear Presidents, Dear Delegates, Approved by the World Motor Sport Council in June 2018, the new FIA Rally Car Pyramid has been designed to structure the market, to adapt our categories to the automobile industry changes and above all to respond to the demands of the competitors. Whether it concerns drivers or teams, new young talent or gentleman drivers, everyone can now find the product that best meets their needs. The implementation of this pyramid has consequences, such as the nomenclature of the groups between Rally1 and Rally5, or the arrival of the new Rally3 cars from 2021. During a period in which the challenges faced are more numerous than ever, we have resolved to pursue our path to continue to make motor sport more accessible and safer. At the Geneva International Motor Show (7 – 17 March 2019) ŠKODA Motorsport unveils its rally car, which adopts key design elements of the 2019 ŠKODA FABIA road car. Additionally, the rally car gets technical improvements. For example, the 1.6-litre turbo charged engine of the new generation rally challenger was upgraded improving power output and engine response. The ŠKODA FABIA R5 is due to be homologated by the International Motorsport Federation FIA in the second quarter of 2019 and will later be available to customers worldwide. The new generation ŠKODA FABIA R5 rally car, in perfect correspondence with the current road- going ŠKODA FABIA, features a new headlight design and performance and reliability improvements. “The next generation of our multiple championship winning ŠKODA FABIA R5 is an important step to keep our customers worldwide and the ŠKODA factory team competitive,” says Michal Hrabánek, Head of ŠKODA Motorsport. -
