The AGM came around quickly this year, which only means one thing. It must have been a very busy, enjoyable and successful year. We certainly achieved a lot in the last 12 months ‐ full credit to a wonderful committee and 2 sub‐committees working away behind the scenes keeping the club on a smooth track. It ‘s no mean feat the work involved: publishing a magazine; keeping meeting and club affairs in check; timely reporting; finances; insurances and Government financial reporting (high level accuracy required for auditing purposes); Web management, design, maintenance and responding to email correspondence; public relations with new and present members; also the importance of Main Roads requirements and the logistics of car dating and supporting current financial members’ letters; and finally the detail that goes in to getting unanimous agreement on merchandising. After all this then there is the putting on of events and determining club run locations. I have done community volunteering in the past, and now, leading a committee has given me yet a deeper appreciation for people who give up their time to devote to their passion and seeing firsthand the individual, behind the scenes efforts that are a part of a “collective team result”. Being a very busy year, Merron has had her hands full with our two very successful functions. Man‐ aging payments and sundry items, providing advice and co‐ordination, weekly budgeting and receipt‐ ing and managing the attendance lists for the 21st, plus mentoring me on the finer points of function management ‐ all of this does put a lot of pressure on top of the responsibility of the treasurer. We lose Merron in this role as of this AGM, and we cannot say enough how well Merron is highly regarded in the Club. We pass on a very sincere and heartfelt thankyou to Merron as she takes a well‐earned rest from holding a committee position. In the last 12 years Merron has held the role of Secretary 00, President 04, Editor 09‐10, and Treasurer 11‐12. The committee would like to welcome Dianne Dignam who we are delighted to accept into the role of Treasurer. We had a very successful AGM and have already decided on the year’s budget outcomes and 2 overnight runs to be held in Sept and Oct. I would like to pass on a big thank‐you to members on the day for getting through a huge amount of decisions ‐ I was very impressed and delighted. We also have 3 new locations for club meetings ‐ thanks to Bill and Lyn, Max and Carol, and Mike and Dianne for inviting us to your homes for the monthly meetings in the coming months. ACHIEVEMENTS THIS YEAR: ‐ Full colour magazine on the web site. ‐ A very successful Xmas party with 65 people attending. ‐ A wonderful celebration of the 21st Anniversary with 78 people attending. ‐ Fantastic participation on the club runs ‐ it has just been wonderful to see so many new members on the runs with 42 people on our last outing to the Happy Days Diner. ‐ A great response to club emails and updates, with functions getting a 65% response by email, and another 20% verbal responses at meetings and club runs. I would like to point out how important it is to reply even if you are unable to attend; those of you advising you are unable to attend are still participating, and have a huge input into how successful the outcome of the event goes. Your reply does matter and it does help. Thank you to everyone for supporting the club over the last 12 months. it has been an absolute pleas‐ ure to be part of. …...Keep those classics moving folks… Kieran (Thunderbirds Club President) 5 Editor’sEditor’s ReportReport Wow !!! What a night, the anniversary event Was fantastic, if you could not make it then don’t worry, we will have another one in 21 years time ! Seriously though, it was great to catch up with so many people at one venue, especially the Old School, Doug Bradley and Neal and Rhonda Weidenhoffer. A big sur- prise for Johnny on whom was bestowed a Life Membership on the night. But for those who couldn’t make it we hope you’ll enjoy the special Souvenir Issue sent out with this Mag! Kieran has been lobbying for the reinstate- ment of the Club Person of the Year Trophy, but little did he know that he would be it’s first recipient . In my opinion there is no other person whom has done so much for the club as KC has in the last 12 months. So !! On we Kruise through the next 21 years, even if we have to run our T’birds on potato peels, or magnetic resonance ! Keep On Kruisin Davo. The Yatala Drive In is one of the few 70’s venues left around Brissy that brings back memories to a lot of Brisbanites, they are slowly disappearing, and the few that remain need your support to keep them viable. There was also a good turn up of patrons on the night, showing it still gets a strong crowd. At $20 for the night you got 2 movies and at $10 per movie that is good value. The 50's style diner was doing a roar- ing trade, burgers ice creams and cokes all round. There was a live Rock and Roll Review of the 50s stage production "Billy Buckett" playing at the Crete St Theatre Beenleigh, adding into the theme of the night, and then it was sit back and watch a couple of movies. The night was warm and dry (that was a nice change) and it was great to see everyone having an awesome day, and evening out, and for some their first time at the Yatala Drive In. The Rowan girls, Eva and Charlotte where on their second run in only a week, after having enjoyed the 21st function, they have been out and about getting to know every one at the movies. Congratulations Kevin and Kim on the arrival of your wonderful twin girls. Cheers Kieran (Thunderbird Club President) Congratulations to Steve and Miqueline Hunter for taking out the 8 9 Parts and Service As requested we have compiled a list of repair or service shops who have been found to be of great help in the restoration of our Classic Cars, this is not a commercial ad nor do the “Thunderbirds of QLD Inc.” take any responsibility for workmanship or service! However if you have found a good shop that has provided what you re- quire then let us know and we shall list them for others to try out.

It’s too early (or too late) for a New Year’s resolution promising to send out 4 of these annually. I still have 4 months with which to make good on next year’s resolution… The theme of this newsletter should be…’how does one describe the indescribable’. Our Hallett Focus Event quali- fies on those terms, as it was so much racing, so much traveling, so much goofing off with other MG racer types, etc., etc. It appears as if there is little difference in ‘vintage’ attitude among MG vintage racers across the 48 states and Canada, as witnessed on-track and in the paddock at Hallett.

He Crashed Me So I Crashed Him Back: The True Story of the Year the King, Jaws, Earnhardt, and the Rest of NASCAR's Feudin', Fightin' Good Ol' Boys Put Stock Car Racing on the Map, Mark Bechtel, Little, Brown, 2011, 0316034037, 9780316034036, 320 pages. On a cold February day in 1979, when most of the Northeast was snowed in by a blizzard, NASCAR entered the American consciousness with a dramatic telecast of the Daytona 500. It was the first 500-mile race to be broadcast live on national television and featured the heroes and legends of the sport racing on a hallowed track. With one of the wildest finishes in sports history--a finish that was just the start of the drama--everything changed for what is now America's second most popular sport. HE CRASHED ME SO I CRASHED HIM BACK is the story of an emerging sport trying to find its feet. It's the story of how Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, A.J. Foyt, and Kyle Petty came together in an unforgettable season that featured the first nationally televised NASCAR races. There were rivalries--even the sibling kind--and plenty of fistfights, feuds, and frenzied finishes. Rollicking and full of larger-than-life characters, HE CRASHED ME SO I CRASHED HIM BACK is the remarkable tale of the birth of modern stock-car racing.. DOWNLOAD HERE The Earnhardt Collection The Most Comprehensive Archive Ever Assembled, , Feb 28, 2006, , 256 pages. In one regard, the flashy, flamboyant driver from Ashland, Ohio, was years ahead of the trends in a sport that would soon enjoy explosive growth in popularity. Women who were NASCAR fans loved him-and so did their husbands and boyfriends. Richmond believed he could use his stardom in racing as a springboard to a second career as an actor, and he had the Hollywood good looks to make that a realistic dream. At the same time, Richmond was also a throwback.

1968 Buick Electra 225 owned by Steve Dodson Monthly Newsletter of the St Louis Chapter Buick Club of America Volume XXXVI No. 7 July 2017 Hi All … I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. I am always frank and honest…and this month’s director’s letter is an urgent call for our club to step up and help. Guys and gals… we are in desperate need to sell our trophy classes for the Shriners Benefit Car Show. We are less than 3 months away and have sold only 15 of our 32 classes. Richard Self has volunteered to revisit last GATEWAY GAZETTE 1 year’s contacts made by Doug Stahl, and Mark Kistner is following up on some leads. If we cannot sell these classes, we will not be able to pay for trophies this year. We really need everyone to step up to make this come together. Doug Stahl went to businesses that he frequented regularly… is there a business you visit that may want to contribute? Are your co-workers generous? Maybe have people poll $5.00 each together to sponsor a class. If everyone just asks a few businesses… we will be able to make this come together in time for the show. I have sold three classes and have been busy working on attendance prizes and raffle baskets. On my annual car trip I received verbal confirmation from Mothers and Laid Back for items again this year. I will also be visiting FastLane Cars and EPC Computers next week. September will be here before we know it.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA SESSION 2003 RATIFIED BILL RESOLUTION 2003-11 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1161 A JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING NASCAR, ITS PIONEER RACING FAMILIES AND DRIVERS, AND NORTH CAROLINA MOTOR RACING. Whereas, North Carolina takes great pride in its position as the stock car racing capital of the United States and the world; and Whereas, North Carolina is the home of NASCAR, which staged its first sanctioned "purely stock car" race at the Charlotte Speedway on June 19, 1949; and Whereas, since that time, NASCAR and motorsports events have become and remain hugely popular with the people of North Carolina, with more than one million people attending motorsports events in North Carolina each year, thereby substantially enhancing the tourism industry in and economy of North Carolina; and Whereas, North Carolina currently hosts five NASCAR Winston Cup events, with two being held at the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham and three at the Lowe's Motor Speedway, near Charlotte, and is thus the stock car racing capital of the world; and Whereas, these Winston Cup races materially affect North Carolina's economy, and the loss of any Winston Cup event would have a tremendous negative impact on jobs and tax revenues in the Rockingham and Charlotte areas and the tourism industry in North Carolina in general; and Whereas, North Carolina has established the William States Lee College of Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte which offers an undergraduate program concentrating on motorsports engineering; and
