Blue Christmas While I Tell of Yuletide Treasure, Fa La La La Blue Christmas While I tell of Yuletide treasure, Fa la la la... I'll have a blue Christmas without you Fast away the old year passes, Fa la la la... I'll be so blue just thinking about you Hail the new, ye lads and lasses, Fa la la la... Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Sing we joyous all together! Fa la la la... Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me Heedless of the wind and weather, Fa la la la... I’ll have a blue Christmas that’s certain Frosty the Snowman And when that blue heartache starts hurtin’ Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, You'll be doin’ all right, with your Christmas of With a corncob pipe and a button nose white, but I’ll have a blue, blue blue blue Christmas And two eyes made out of coal. The Chipmunk Christmas Song Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, Christmas, Christmas time is near He was made of snow but the children know Time for toys and time for cheer How he came to life one day. We've been good, but we can't last There must have been some magic in that Hurry Christmas, hurry fast Old silk hat they found. Want a plane that loops the loop For when they placed it on his head Me, I want a hula hoop He began to dance around. We can hardly stand the wait O, Frosty the snowman Please Christmas, don't be late Was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh and play Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting....) Just the same as you and me. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your nose Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir Look at Frosty go. And folks dressed up like Eskimos Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump Over the hills of snow Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe Help to make the season bright Frosty the Snowman, knew the sun was hot that Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow day Will find it hard to sleep tonight So he said, “Let’s run, and we’ll have some fun They know that Santa's on his way now before I melt away.” He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh And every mother's child is gonna spy Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand. To see if reindeer really know how to fly Running here and there, all around the square, Saying, “Catch me if you can.” And so I'm offering this simple phrase To kids from one to ninety-two He led them down the streets of town Although it's been said many times, many ways Right to the traffic cop Merry Christmas to you And he only paused a moment when He heard him holler “Stop!” Deck the Halls Deck the halls with boughs of holly,Fa la la la... Frosty the Snowman had to hurry on his way, 'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la... But he waved goodbye saying, “Don’t you cry, Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la la... I’ll be back again someday.” Troll the ancient Yuletide carol, Fa la la la... Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump See the blazing yule before us, Fa la la la... Look at Frosty go. Strike the harp and join the chorus, Fa la la la... Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la... Over the hills of snow Have a Holly Jolly Christmas He'll come around when the chimes ring out Have a holly, jolly Christmas; It's Christmas morn again It's the best time of the year Peace on earth will come to all If we just follow the light I don't know if there'll be snow Let's give thanks to the Lord above but have a cup of cheer 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight Have a holly, jolly Christmas; And when you walk down the street Say Hello to friends you know I'll Be Home for Christmas and everyone you meet I'll be home for Christmas You can plan on me Oh ho, the mistletoe hung where you can see; Please have snow and mistletoe Somebody waits for you; Kiss her once for me And presents by the tree Have a holly jolly Christmas and in case you didn't hear Christmas Eve will find you Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas this Where the love light gleams I'll be home for Christmas year If only in my dreams Here Comes Santa Claus Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Right down Santa Claus lane Christmas It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Vixen, Blitzen, all his reindeer Ev'rywhere you go, Pulling on the reins Take a look in the five-and-ten, it's glistening once Bells are ringing, children singing again All is merry and bright With candy canes and silver lanes that glow. Hang your stockings and say a prayer It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight Toys in ev'ry store, But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus On your own front door. Riding down Santa Claus lane A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that shoots He's got a bag that's filled with toys Is the wish of Barney and Ben, For boys and girls again Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle Is the hope of Janice and Jen, What a beautiful sight Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start Jump in bed and cover up your head again. Because Santa Claus comes tonight It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus Ev'rywhere you go, Right down Santa Claus lane There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as He doesn't care if you're a rich or poor boy well, He loves you just the same It's the sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow. Santa knows that we're God's children It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, That makes everything right Soon the bells will start, Fill your hearts with Christmas cheer And the thing that will make them ring is the carol 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight that you sing Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus Right within your heart. Riding down Santa Claus lane Jingle Bells Jingle bell time is a swell time Dashing through the snow To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh On a one horse open sleigh O'er the fields we go, Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Laughing all the way Jingle around the clock Bells on bob tail ring, Mix and a-mingle in the jingling beat making spirits bright That’s the jingle bell, What fun it is to laugh and sing That’s the jingle bell, A sleighing song tonight That’s the jingle bell rock Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way Let It Snow Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh Oh, the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful A day or two ago, And since we've no place to go I thought I'd take a ride, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side; It doesn't show signs of stoppin' The horse was lean and lank And I brought some corn for poppin' Misfortune seemed his lot The lights are turned way down low We got into a drifted bank, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow And then we got upsot. When we finally kiss good-night How I'll hate going out in the storm Chorus But if you really hold me tight All the way home I'll be warm Now the ground is white Go it while you're young Oh the fire is slowly dying Take the girls tonight And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing And sing this sleighing song But as long as you love me so Just get a bob tailed bay Let it snow, let it snow, and snow two-forty as his speed Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you'll take the lead Mele Kalikimaka Chorus Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day That's the island greeting that we send to you from Jingle Bell Rock the land where palm trees sway Here we know that Christmas will be green and Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock bright Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Now the jingle hop has begun Christmas to you Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square In the frosty air.

God became a human being among us all. Once again it is dark. Not just dark at midnight but dark in ourselves: dark with doubt, dark with fear and uncertainty, Dark with confusing and conflicting voices in our ears. Come, light of Life, lighten the darkness in our lives with your mighty word of love. Lighten our hearts with the joy of your promised coming. Lighten our world with the hope that faith in A Blue Christmas Reflection you brings. The Word of the Lord Luke 2: 1-7 About that time Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Empire. This was the first census when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone had to travel to his own ancestral hometown to be accounted for. So Joseph went from the Galilean town of Nazareth up to Bethlehem in Judah, David’s town, for the census. As a descendant of David, he had to go there. He went with Mary, his fiancée, who was Background pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. We're very conscious that this time of year is a time of She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, great excitement and joy for some, but for others, it is a because there was no room in the hostel. time of intense loneliness and pain. • Blue Christmas Booklet
The Longest Night: A Blue Christmas Service We greet you in the name of our Christ and offer you His love and embrace. Today we gather for a Blue Christmas Service; ‘blue’ as in the blues, or “I am feeling blue.” We recognize that not everyone is emotionally up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the pandemic, the fear, the loss of normal social interactions, as well as perhaps the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer, or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people in our parishes and communities. There is a growing attentiveness to the needs of people who are feeling blue, or a little down, at Christmastime. Increasing numbers of churches are creating sacred space for people living through dark times. Such services are reflective, accepting where we really are, and holding out healing and hope. And that is why Saint Miriam is holding this The Longest Night Service, taking place near the actual Winter Solstice, the longest day of the year, with the year’s least amount of daylight. Symbols not to be lost or overlooked. There is also an interesting convergence for this day as we combine today’s service with a traditional Mass on a Sunday. This linkage invites making some connections between our own struggle to believe the tale of Jesus’ resurrection, the long nights just before Christmas, and the struggle with darkness and grief faced by those living with loss and the reality that today, in the Sacrifice of the Mass, God comes and is made manifest and real.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church ELCA Our vision is to reach every person with the love of Christ Pastor Tracy Polzin † Pastor Joshua Stibb Words of Welcome 2 Welcome to this “Blue Christmas” service. The name, “Blue Christmas,” describes the feeling that some of us have during this season. In the long, dark winter nights, memories of past experiences and the pain of present situations can become overwhelming. For some, Christmas Day is very difficult. For others, it’s Christmas Eve, or New Year’s Eve, or the beginning of another lonely year. In this worship, we invite you to listen. We invite you to pray. We invite you to sing, if you are able. We invite you to meditate upon the loneliness or pain you may bring - and to offer your feelings to the Christ-child. We pray that you will find hope and comfort in knowing that you are not alone. PRELUDE Mary Keppeler, Harpist WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP P: Tonight, we come looking for the Christ Child. All: We come, bringing our hurts, our worries, our fears. P: We come seeking relief from pain. With the psalmist, we say: All: “O Lord, you are my refuge - my portion in the land of the living. Give heed to my cry, O God, for I am brought very low.” HYMN: “Holden Evening Introduction & Hymn” by Marty Haugen Taras Nahirniak 3 PRAYER OF CONFESSION: 4 P: Dear Lord, we come to you this evening to express our failures and confusion regarding our relationship with you: ALL: You know that we come to you with heavy hearts, which we find hard to unburden.

  • Blue Christmas Liturgy 12
O Come, O Come Emmanuel A Blue Christmas Service Welcome to this time when we can, with others, acknowledge the “blue” feelings we have at Christmas time. For many who have lost a loved one, this is a time of sharp loneliness. For others, who have lost a relationship, health, a job, or had a financial setback it may be a time of pain, confusion, or fear. This is not a joyous season for everyone. You are invited to a brief reception in the Parlor following the service. EVENING PRAYER Officiant Blessed be the God of our salvation. All Who bears our burdens and forgives all our sins. In the middle of the night, when stark night was darkest, then you chose to come. God’s resplendent first-born sent to make us one. The voices of doom protest: “All these words about justice, love and peace—all these naïve words will buckle beneath the weight of a reality which is brutal and bitter, ever more bitter.” It is true, Lord, it is midnight upon the earth, moonless night and starved of stars. But can we forget that You, the son of God, chose to be born precisely at midnight? – Dom Helder Camara Officiant Let us pray. God of Mercy, hear out prayer in this Advent Season for ourselves and our families who live with painful experiences of loss. We ask for strength for today, courage for tomorrow and peace for the past. We ask these things in the name of Christ who entered the world at Christmas to share our life in sorrow and joy, death and new birth, despair and promise.
