Donors Making a Difference Daughters of Martha Sheeder Martha Sheeder graduated from the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing FastBacc® program in 2013. In remembrance of her life, her daughters Allison, Lindsay, Maury and Meredith, shared her story in a video that was shown at the 8th Annual Going for the Gold Gala this past spring. Below are some highlights from their touching sentiments about their mom. Smiling with heartfelt remembrance about her mom, Allison Sheeder said, “She was genuinely happy about everything. I think that happiness was infectious to everyone around her.” In May of 2012, Martha went back to school to complete the FastBacc® program at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON). The following February she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “After she graduated from the LHSON, she went back to Texas Oncology where she had actually gotten her infusions,” recalled her daughter Lindsay Sheeder Brown. “In fact, she started a tradition there now called ‘Martha’s Gong.’ Everyone that finishes their chemo treatment gets to ring the gong at the end. She had the opportunity to touch so many lives as a nurse,” recalls Meredith Sheeder. Then, in October of 2016, my sisters and I all got a phone call at about 11 p.m.,” shared Maury Sheeder. “Mom had been at dinner with her boyfriend and collapsed in the bathroom. She was rushed to the hospital. They did an MRI and quickly got the results back. The doctors put us all in a room together and explained that if there was white on the brain that it meant there was no brain activity.

  • Alcott 12Th in Bad Kleinkirchheim
Snowsport GB, Hillend, Biggar Road, Midlothian, EH10 7EF Tel: 0131-445-7676; www.snowsportgb.com [email protected] Sunday 15th January 2006 Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria. Alcott: 12th in Bad Kleinkirchheim The British Land Alpine Ski Team's Chemmy Alcott buried the disappointment of a relatively poor downhill showing yesterday in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria when she skied to an impressive 12th place in today's World Cup Women's Super G. Racing first down the course Alcott, (23, Twickenham/The British Land Alpine Ski Team) set aside any nervousness about being the first woman ever to ski Super G on the resort's Franz Klammer Weltcup Abfahrt piste, and set a time of 1 minute 10.35 seconds. Her run set her up in the top three until several of the Women's Super G big guns attacked it, but 12th - the second best ever British Women's Super G result after her own 11th in Lake Louise in late 2003 - is her best result of the season so far and the third best World Cup result of her career so far. After struggling in some of the women's world cup downhills Alcott was pleased not only with her skiing today, but also with the way in which she handled the pressure of skiing first. Two years ago she let the stress of opening the course get to her, but today she was able to use her intuition to ski the fall line as much as possible and return a very encouraging result, less than a month before the start of the Olympic Winter Games.

After having won a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, he dominated diving competitions throughout the 1980s, winning two gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and two more at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Since his retirement from competition, he has acknowledged both his homosexuality and his status as a person living with AIDS. Louganis was born on January 29, 1960 in San Diego to a Samoan father and a northern European mother. He was adopted at nine months and was raised in El Cajon, a suburb of San Diego. He began his athletic life as a gymnast and acrobat, but switched to diving when a local coach noticed his natural talent. Diving became an important physical and emotional outlet for Louganis, an arena in which he could succeed at a time when he was ridiculed for his skin color, his interest in dance, his undiagnosed dyslexia, and his apparent homosexuality. Suffering from depression in his adolescence, Louganis attempted suicide several times, smoked and took drugs, and denied his sexual attraction toward men. Louganis emerged as a diving phenomenon when he was a teenager. He demonstrated not simply strength and technical proficiency, but also an unusual grace, a combination of qualities that were to become his trademark. At the 1971 AAU Junior Olympics competition, Louganis caught the attention of legendary diving coach Dr. Sammy Lee.
