WELCOME John Downie, Chair of RBL Ipswich

Good morning everyone and I would like to thank you all for joining us for this, very different Remembrance Sunday Service. Whether you have joined us via the radio, online, or are here in person I wish you well and hope you are keeping safe. Before we begin I just wish to remind those gathered here today to socially distance at all times during our service while we remember the service personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

I will now hand over to The Venerable Rhiannon King, the Archdeacon of Ipswich, to conduct todays service.

THE INTRODUCTION The Venerable Rhiannon King, Archdeacon of Ipswich

Dear Friends, we meet today both here in Christchurch Park and at home, to remember with thanksgiving and sorrow those whose lives, in world wars and conflicts, have been given and taken away.

We pray for all those who in bereavement, disability and pain continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror.

Let us give thanks for the heroism and courage of those who served and serve in the armed services; for those who worked and work behind the scenes back home and we give thanks for those who endured captivity, torture or death that others might be free.

We ask God’s forgiveness for all we do to spoil or destroy and we ask God, in his graciousness, to heal our wounds and divisions, calm our fears and give us peace.

We are also aware that we meet today in the strange times of a global pandemic and we pause now to remember all those known to us who have lost loved ones or who are living with ill health and pain.

We pledge ourselves anew today to the service of God and humanity; that we may help, encourage and comfort others, and support those working for the relief of the needy and for the peace and welfare of the nations.

Mindful of the devastation of all wars:

Go forth into the world in peace, be of good courage, hold fast to that which is good; render to no one evil for evil; strengthen the faint-hearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honour everyone and love and serve the Lord.

For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
