O progressivo avanço tecnológico da sociedade naturalmente traz consigo inovações, transformações e novos produtos e serviços. Novos produtos e serviços, por sua vez, conduzem a mudanças e mesmo quebras de paradigmas nas formas como estes são planejados e desenvolvidos. Game mods, diminutivo de game modifications, representam um tipo de produto nascido como uma espécie de mutação resultante da evolução da indústria de jogos eletrônicos. Estes conjuntos de diversos tipos de modificações não-oficiais em jogos eletrônicos (seja de arte, código ou mecânicas) chamados de mods, encontraram nas comunidades de jogadores, fãs e desenvolvedores amadores, terreno fértil para se proliferar. O resultado de tal expansão é ilustrado no fato de, hoje, os mods estarem se tornando cada vez mais fatores relevantes e dignos de consideração no desenvolvimento de qualquer projeto na indústria de jogos eletrônicos. Entretanto, a introdução de um novo elemento de impacto na indústria traz consigo desdobramentos, abrindo espaços para novas ideias, perspectivas e mudanças no que pode ser visto como “tradicional”. Este trabalho explora, portanto, o processo de desenvolvimento de game mods de conversão total, sendo particularmente focado nos aspectos ligados a organização interna e às práticas de gestão de projetos adotadas nestes grupos de desenvolvedores informais. Para o tal, se desenvolveu uma pesquisa exploratória, baseada na análise da literatura existente e de entrevistas com membros-chave de equipes desenvolvedoras de produtos deste tipo, visando a identificação e exposição de tais práticas. O produto final obtido foi um modelo ilustrativo das principais influências que compõe o sistema de trabalho destes desenvolvedores, e uma análise de suas práticas de gestão de projetos sob a perspectiva das 10 áreas de conhecimento do guia PMBOK. Com os resultados obtidos, se almeja auxiliar no avanço da pesquisa acadêmica em um tópico ainda muito recente e carente de um maior número de estudos científicos, sendo a existência de um trabalho que fornece uma visão panorâmica do tópico, benéfica não apenas à comunidade acadêmica, mas também a própria indústria de jogos eletrônicos através da ilustração de novos procedimentos com potencial de adoção pela mesma. The gradual process of technological advancement in our society brings with itself innovations and transformations along with the development of new products and services. New products and services, on their turn, lead to changes and even disruptions on the ways these are planned and developed. Game mods (short for game modifications), represent a type of product born out as a mutation in the continual evolution of the electronic game industry. These various types of non-official game modifications to electronic games (be them art, code or gameplay based) found in fan, player and amateur developers’ communities, fertile soil to thrive. The result of this expansion is seen today in the fact that game mods are becoming more and more of a relevant factor, being worthy of consideration in the development of any project in the electronic game industry. However, the introduction of new meaningful elements in any industry may naturally bring changes to it, making room for new ideas, perspectives and possible questioning of what is considered as “traditional”. This thesis, therefore, explores the process of development of total conversion game modifications, being particularly focused on the aspects regarding the internal organization and project management practices that take place within these groups of informal developers. In order to do so, an exploratory research project was conducted based on literature review and interviews with key members of total conversion game mod projects, intending to identify such practices. The result was an illustrative model of the main influences that help build the workflow systems of these developers, along with an analysis of their project management practices from a perspective grounded on the 10 knowledge areas of the PMBOK guide. It is hoped that these findings may help support the growth of a still recent and academically under-researched subject. In addition, it is believed that the providing of a panoramic overview of the topic will not only be beneficial to the academia, but also to the electronic game industry as a whole by demonstrating new procedures with potential to be adopted in such commercial environment. In preparation for a proposal to the companies, information was collected from each company concerning how, when, where, and why they were founded. A proposal was then written and submitted to each company requesting copies of their games. With this special collection, both students and staff will be able to use them as tools for the IMGD program. 1 Introduction WPI has established relationships with Massachusetts game companies since the Interactive Media and Game Development (IMGD) program’s beginning in 2005. With the growing popularity of game development, and the ever increasing numbers of companies, it is difficult to establish and maintain solid relationships for each and every company. As part of this project, new relationships will be founded with a number of greater-Boston area companies in order to establish a repository of local video games. This project will not only bolster any previous relationships with companies, but establish new ones as well. With these donated materials, a special collection will be established at the WPI Library, and will include a number of retail video games. This collection should inspire more people to be interested in the IMGD program here at WPI. Knowing that there are many opportunities locally for graduates is an important part of deciding one’s major. I knew I wanted to do something with the library for this IQP, but I was not sure exactly what I wanted when I first went to establish a project.

The web domains www.gog.com, embed.gog.com and some of the Galaxy domains support session cookies too. They both have to be obtained using the GOG login page, because a CAPTCHA may be required to complete the login process. 1.1.2 Auth-Flow 1. Use an embedded browser like WebKit, Gecko or CEF to send the user to https://auth.gog.com/auth. An add-on in your desktop browser should work as well. The exact details about the parameters of this request are described below. 2.
