The kilims are large tapestry-woven textiles. The visually stunning and colorful Anatolian kilims communicate the aesthetic choices of the village and nomadic women who created them. -

Turkmen Rugs Geography West Turkestan is an area of some 700,000 square kilometres with the Caspian Sea to the west, the Mangyshlak Peninsula to the northeast and the Kapet-Dagh Mountains and the outskirts of the Hindukush forming a semicircle to the south. West of what since 1924 has been the border of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Turkmenistan are Afghanistan and the Iranian province of Khorassan. At the eastern side is the huge Chinese province of Xinjiang (Sinkiang). Usually referred to in the context of weaving literature as East Turkestan. Thus viewed in simple geographic terms, it is easier to understand the nature of this Eurasian basin, part of the ancient world's dry belt. To the western side of the region is the Karakum desert and to the east, between the Amu- Darya and Syr-Darya rivers, is the Kyzylkum desert. To the south, that there was earlier the Soviet Socialist Republic of Uzbekistan, now this independent state, are the important trading centres of Bukhara and Samarkand. The latter having been a major post along the ancient Silk Road, which ran from China through East Turkestan and on westwards, via Tashkent in Uzbekistan, Mary (Merv) in Turkmenistan and Khorasan. Many different ethnic groups have occupied this region for millennia and among those associated with weaving, in addition to the Turkmen's themselves, are the Uzbeks, Karakalpaks and Kirgiz. Historical Research Serious research into the weaving culture of the Turkmen's must, of course, encompass more than aesthetic appreciation. -

It was constructed in the Qajar Dynasty in 1876 by Lord Mirza Hasan Ali Nasir al Mulk. The mosque is known for its extensive use in colored glass in its façade. ORIENTAL & FINE AREA RUG CLEANING IDENTIFICATION MANUAL “TRY NOT TO BECOME A MAN OF SUCCESS, BUT RATHER A MAN OF VALUE.” – ALBERT EINSTEIN RUG TYPES AND CONSTRUCTION The construction of any hand-woven or machine-woven rug begins with the interlacing of warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) yarns, which are known as the foundation. This creates the basic structure of the rug, to which the pile yarns may be added with hand knotting or mechanical insertion. Foundation yarns used in rugs are: wool, silk, cotton, jute, polyester and polypropylene. Foundation yarns include: Warp – cotton, wool, silk, linen, polyester, slit-film polypropylene. Everything About Persian Kilims
Everything about Persian Kilims Kilim is a flat handwoven that is produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft generally with wool of cow, sheep, camel, goat. Kilims usually used as floor covering, traditional bags, hanging wall art. Historically, weaving zones of kilim in Central Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, North Africa are traditionally centers of raising sheep, goat, camel so wool material is easily available. Boustani Glorious Handicrafts tells you everything about Persian kilims that currently are recognized as a kind of Modern Persian Rugs which can be divided into below groups: Double faced or flat-weave kilims Kilims that putting wefts technique are used for the weaving process with less thickness than others named double faced or flat-weave kilims. In this kind of Persian kilim, motifs in both sides are same and utilizable. Qashqai kilims, Senneh kilims in Kurdistan and Kamoo sofrehs belong in this group. One faced kilim or Soumak Soumak is a handwoven textile with special technique of weaving. Soumak is a strong, beautiful tapestry used as carpet and saddle bag. The name of Soumak is derived from the name of Shamakhi city in Azerbaijan, Caucasus where was hub for weaving of floral weft-faced kilims. Soumaks finest kilims come from the Caucasus and also have been produced in Iran and Turkey since beginning of 20th century. Soumaks are thicker than ordinary kilims. Motifs and designs of Soumak are visible in front side and behind it on the back side, only colored yarn are scattered irregularly. Other one faced kilims except Soumak In the texture of this type of kilim, flat-weaving method mean putting wefts, Soumak weaving style and in some cases, rug weaving technique are used. -

THE BERLIN DRAGON-PHOENIX CARPET Architecture is perhaps the most stable in terms of geographic location of production: we know with total precision where a church was erected and usually the authority responsible for it.
