STAiNTON^ sq., so well known for his works on British Micro-Lepidoptera, for the extent of his cabinet, and the hberahtj with which he allows it to be consulted. Mr. Stainton has endeavom-ed to arrange these insects ac- cording to theh natural affinities, so far as is practicable with a local collection ; and has taken great pains to ascertain every name which has been applied to the respective species and their varieties, the author of the same, and the date of pubhcation ; the references to such names as are unaccompanied by descrip- tions being included in parentheses : all are arranged chronolo- gically, excepting those to the illustrations and to the figures which invariably follow their authorities. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The Elachista bedellella Sircom complex is diagnosed and its taxonomy is revised. The female genitalia, when known, are found to be of good diagnostic value in defining species. In the male genitalia there are subtle, yet decipherable inter- specific differences in the shape of the juxta and the cornutus that correlate with differences in the outer appearance of different populations. As a result, eight species are recognised, including the following new species: Elachista antonia sp. n. from Greece (Crete), E. slivenica sp. n. from Bulgaria, E. dorinda sp. n. from Turkey, E. versicolora sp. n. from Russia (Transbaikalia) and E. camilla sp. n. from Russia (Kuray). The identity of E. lugdunensis Frey is clarified and it is considered a valid species, and E. coeneni Traugott-Olsen, 1985 is confirmed to be a junior synonym of it. E. bedellella, E. lugdunensis and E. titanella Kaila & Jalava, 1994 (stat. n.) are diagnosed and illustrated. Key words: Taxonomy, Lepidoptera, Elachistidae, Elachistinae, Elachista bedellella complex, new species, revised sta- tus Introduction Elachista bedellella (Sircom, 1848) is a common and widespread species of Elachistinae in Europe (Kaila, 2004). It is characterised by broad forewings with brownish grey ground colour in which there are two pale markings: a transverse fascia in the middle of the wing, and triangular costal and tornal spots confluent to each other forming another medially outward angled fascia in outer two thirds of the wing. -

Checklist of Grass-Mining Moths of Ukraine with Description of One New Species (Lepidoptera: Elachistidae)

Bidzilya, Yu. Budashkin & A. Zhakov Abstract An annotated list of 71 species of Elachistidae of Ukraine is given. One species Elachista laurii Bidzilya & Budashkin, sp. n. is described as new from the Eastern Ukraine (Luhansk region) and Volga area of Russia (Ulyanovsk, Saratov and Volgograd regions). Elachista purella Sruoga, 2000 is recorded from Europe for the first time and the hitherto unknown female of this species is illustrated. Eight species: Elachista grandella Traugott-Olsen, 1992, Elachista parvula Parenti, 1978, Elachista nitidulella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1855), Elachista spumella Caradja, 1920, Elachista heringi (Rebel, 1899), Elachista nolckeni Sˇulcs, 1992, Elachista littoricola Le Marchand, 1938 = Elachista volgella Lastukhin, 2009, syn. n., and Biselachista contaminatella (Zeller, 1847) = Biselachista arzamastsevi Lastukhin, 2009, syn. n., are recorded from the Ukraine for the first time. Four species: Elachista regificella Sircom, 1849, Elachista anitella Traugott-Olsen, 1985, Elachista elegans Frey, 1859 and Biselachista albidella (Nylander, 1848), are removed from the Ukrainian fauna due to previous misidentification. One species Perittia sibirica Sinev, 1992 is removed from the European fauna. Type material is deposited in the collections of ZMKU (Kiev, Ukraine), FMNH (Helsinki, Finland), K. Nupponen (Espoo, Finland), V. Zolotuhin (Ulyanovsk, Russia). KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Elachistidae, checklist, new species, Ukraine. November 2007 Summary: 65species of Elachistidae are listed from the Volgo-Ural Region. 64 species are recorded from the region in addition to Eversmann ’s list. Introduction: This paper is the 14lh in a series of publications', dealing with the composition of the present-day fauna of the family Elachistidae in the Middle Volga and the south western Cisurals. This region comprises of the administrative divisions of Astrakhan-, Volgograd-, Saratov-, Samara-, Uljanovsk-, Orenburg-, Uralsk- and Atyraus-(=Gurjev) Districts, together with Tataria and Bashkiria. As was accepted in previous parts of this series, only material reliably labeled and spanning mostly the last 25-50 years was used for this study. The main collections are those of the authors: V. Anikin (Saratov and Astrakhan Distr. and Kalmyk. Republic), S. Sachkov (Samara Distr.) and V. Zolotuhin (Uljanovsk and Astrakhan Distr.). Whilst completing this list we also took advantage of the information from recent papers on this region (Sachkov , 1996; Sachkov et al., 1996; Zolotuhin , 2001; K aila et al., 2003). The material in the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg) has also been examined for our study. A total of 1082 taxa were recorded, among them 6 are new to South Tyrol and 3 new to Italy. Juni 2013 in Wengen, Gadertal statt. Die Organisation und Koordination lagen wie bisher beim Naturmuseum Südtirol und dem Amt für Naturparke der Autonomen Provinz Bozen-Südtirol. Details und allgemeine Informationen (Konzept und Organisation) zum Tag der Artenvielfalt und insbesondere zur Südtiroler Ausgabe siehe HILPOLD & KRANEBITTER (2005). Untersuchungsgebiet Kerngebiet der Geländeaufnahmen 2013 waren die Armentara-Wiesen im Gadertal oberhalb von Wengen am Fuß des Heiligkreuzkofels. Sie sind berühmt für ihren Blumenreichtum. Die Untersuchungsflächen erstrecken sich im Wesentlichen zwischen dem Weiler Furnacia (Gemeinde Wengen, ca. 1700 m ü.M.) im Nordwesten und dem Kreuzkofelmassiv im Südosten. In das Untersuchungsgebiet mit einbezogen wurden auch die Schuttkare und untersten Felsbereiche an der Nordseite des Heiligkreuzkofels (ca. 2050 m ü.M.) Sequence information from them is increasingly valuable due to the growing usage of DNA barcodes in taxonomy. As type specimens are often old, it may only be possible to recover fragmentary sequence information from them. We tested the efficacy of short sequences from type specimens in the resolution of a challenging taxonomic puzzle: the Elachista dispunctella complex which includes 64 described species with minuscule morphological differences. We applied a multistep pro- cedure to resolve the taxonomy of this species complex. First, we sequenced a large number of newly collected speci- mens and as many holotypes as possible. Second, we used all >400 bp examine species boundaries. We employed three unsupervised methods (BIN, ABGD, GMYC) with specified criteria on how to handle discordant results and examined diagnostic bases from each delineated putative species (operational taxonomic units, OTUs). Third, we evaluated the morphological characters of each OTU. Finally, we associated short barcodes from types with the delin- eated OTUs. In this step, we employed various supervised methods, including distance-based, tree-based and charac- ter-based. -

Many of the 39 parti- cipants were recognized experts on different arthropod groups. Fifty-seven localities within and nearby the Donau-Auen National Park were investigated, and a total of 1265 invertebrate species identified: 8 Collembola, 1 Zygentoma, 19 Odonata, 2 Blatto- dea, 1 Dermaptera, 9 Orthoptera, 66 Heteroptera, 52 Hemi ptera, 2 Neuroptera, 443 Coleo ptera, 1 Meco ptera, 76 Di ptera, 190 Hymeno ptera, 35 Tricho ptera, 259 Lepido- ptera, 11 Diplopoda, 10 Chilopoda, 10 Isopoda, 3 Araneae, 10 Pseudoscorpiones, 2 Opiliones, 5 Acari, 6 Oligochaeta, 3 Bivalvia, and 41 Gastropoda. New to Vienna and Lower Austria were 9 and 7 species, respectively. The rare hoverfly Epistrophe cryptica Doczkal & Schmid, 1994 (Diptera: Syrphidae) was found in Austria for the first time. -
