Nos investissements se sont chiffrés à plus de trois millions de dollars alloués à 42 projets, dont 25 longs métrages de fiction à l’étape du développement et 11 à l’étape de production. Six téléséries ont aussi obtenu notre appui, dont trois projets de conversion en mode « format » et trois projets de « développement » d’un concept télévisuel. Malgré un nombre modeste de demandes soumises aux volets destinés au « format », nous avons constaté une croissance des besoins chez les producteurs et nous comptons bien continuer à développer ce secteur d’activités. D’ailleurs, des projets soutenus dans les années précédentes ont commencé à porter fruit et les ventes effectuées à l’international ont permis de rembourser les dépenses encourues. Les œuvres qui ont obtenu l’aide du Programme de langue française se démarquent par leur diversité et leur audace, allant du cinéma grand public à des œuvres d’art et d’essai, en passant par des films destinés aux enfants. Ces projets ont été portés par une cohorte d’auteurs chevronnés, mais aussi par la nouvelle génération. De jeunes talents, comme Myriam Verreault, Geneviève Dulude-De Celles, Sophie Dupuis ou Yan Giroux, ont soufflé un vent de fraicheur sur le milieu et ont introduit de nouvelles thématiques dans notre art. Les piliers de notre cinéma, tels Denys Arcand, Bernard Émond, Ricardo Trogi ou Sébastien Pilote, ne sont pas en reste et travaillent sur des projets enlevants et attendus. Des films appuyés lors du dernier exercice financier se sont d’ailleurs démarqués cette année. Le film Hochelaga, Terre des âmes, de François Girard, a notamment été choisi pour représenter le Canada en vue de l’obtention d’une nomination dans la catégorie du meilleur film en langue étrangère pour la prochaine cérémonie des Oscars. C’est le cœur qui meurt en dernier, adapté du roman éponyme de Robert Lalonde et sobrement mis en images par Alexis Durant-Brault, a su émouvoir les auditoires d’ici, mais aussi les festivaliers du festival du Film francophone d’Angoulême. Sur la scène nationale, le film de Robin Aubert,Les Affamés, a pour sa part décroché le prix du meilleur film canadien au Festival international du film de Toronto. Les comédiesDe père en flic 2, du réalisateur Émile Gaudreau et Bon Cop Bad Cop 2, scénarisé par Patrick Huard et réalisé par Alain Desrochers, trônent en tête des films québécois les plus populaires de l’année avec des recettes dépassant la barre des 6 millions de dollars. Ces succès nous emplissent de fierté et nous confortent dans le bien-fondé de notre mission. La parité entre les femmes et les hommes fait partie des enjeux de notre industrie et la cuvée de cette dernière année témoigne de notre implication active pour l’atteinte de cet objectif. En effet, des 73 demandes soumises au Programme, 26 comportaient au moins une femme à un poste clé de la création, de la scénarisation ou de la réalisation. De ces 26 demandes, 17 ont obtenu l’aval du comité, ce qui représente un taux d’acceptation de 65 % par rapport à ce groupe et 47 % quant à l’ensemble des projets soutenus par le Programme pour la catégorie « long métrage de fiction ». Il est également intéressant de constater que des 36 productions retenues au cours de ce dernier exercice financier, 24 sont pilotées par des femmes au poste de productrice. 6 PROGRAMME DE LANGUE FRANÇAISE Bien entendu, cette implication dynamique du Programme de langue française du Fonds Harold Greenberg dans la production cinématographique et télévisuelle ne serait pas possible sans le soutien financier continu de Bell Média. Sans leur appui, il serait impossible pour nous de poursuivre notre mission et c’est donc avec beaucoup de chaleur que nous les remercions pour leur inestimable soutien. Notre milieu fait présentement face à de nombreux défis, notamment avec l’arrivée de gros joueurs américains et internationaux. Dans ces circonstances, il est primordial de pouvoir compter sur un partenaire aussi impliqué dans le développement de notre culture que Bell Media. En terminant, il est important pour nous de souligner l’engagement constant et exceptionnel de nos collègues du comité.

Sharkwater Extinction The late Rob Stewart’s environmental legacy lives on through his documentary Sharkwater Extinction, which had its world premiere at TIFF. The documentary focuses on shark finning –a practice that has been largely banned worldwide thanks to awareness created by his earlier work, Sharkwater. Walt has terminal cancer. He wants Mary’s help in delivering the news to her overachieving teen-aged half-sister, Robyn whose mother walked out on the family. Robyn has no idea who Mary is. Or at least, she pretends not to. When she was a young woman, Mary also lost her mother. As her sympathy for Robyn deepens, her outrage at Walt’s request diminishes. At an AA meeting, Mary meets Lou, a Personal Care Worker who offers support and friendship.
