Mary begins to sense that someone might be watching her. Unsure of what is real and what is imagined, Mary embraces isolation as she explores the psychological impact of her past and present. PRODUCTION NOTES Work and Walk in a Good Way Honour the Seven Grandfathers teachings: Honesty – Wisdom – Respect – Bravery – Humility – Truth – Love Those words and several others would accompany Falls Around Her’s first callsheet and would be included in every callsheet during the shoot. For the Anishinaabe people, the Teachings of the Seven Grandfathers is a set of teachings on human conduct toward others. As film crews employ many people from several different backgrounds, it’s a daily reminder to treat all creation with respect. And cast and crew took those words to heart every day and it contributed to a joyful set. Even more amazing given that there was a mix of crew of indigenous and non-indigenous people. The crew for Falls Around Her became an amalgamation of Toronto and Atikameksheng Anishnawbek/Sudbury/North Bay crews along with many indigenous locals. For the locals, it was the biggest production to ever have its home base on the reservation, and they were prepared for the challenge and the collective hard work of all is reflected on-screen. -

It was the reality of imagining the tech week process underscored by fear and uncertainty, imagining set pieces and lighting instruments abandoned in the theatre, and imagining folks travelling to work that made us make the call. My phone call to Karen was my first tear-filled conversation as an AD to an artist. I couldn’t imagine her heartbreak. Deep down she knew - we all (maybe) knew - that we were holding onto impossible hope and had to let go. -

Her efforts to find out the truth send her on an unexpected journey of liberation. LONG SYNOPSIS East Vancouver: an immigrant mix, old and new. We witness Maria (60) hanging the laundry; we meet her neighbours, and see her exercising in the park with her charming soulful husband, Bing (65). Epic landscapes and the hint of loneliness. It’s Bing’s 65th birthday, and their grown daughter Ava (40s), her husband Jonathan (40s) and their biracial kids, baby Milly and Max (6), come home to honour him. Tipsy, Bing makes a heartfelt ode to his gal Maria, and is restrained and sweet. The day after, Maria is alone doing her usual tidying when she reaches into Bing’s suit pocket and discovers an orange g-string thong. We watch her reaction and her full range of emotions morphing between disbelief, shock, anger and fear. -
