By Thari AlRashed KUWAIT: The thirty second annual WrestleMania took place on April 3 at the AT&T stadium in Dallas, Texas. The show was filled with special appearances from fan favorites and heart clutching moments. A major announcement was also made at the grandest stage of them all. And also a record was broken with 101,763 fans in attendance. The event started with the kick off show. Three matches where shown: Kalisto vs Ryback for the United States title, The Dudley Boys vs The Usos and finally the 10 Diva tag team match between team Total Divas and team Bad and Blonde. After the Diva’s match we were treated to the first surprise of the night with an appearance by Nikki Bella. Who came out to celebrate the victory with her sister while sporting her neck brace from her recent sur- gery. The kick off show had a fresh feeling to it. Seeing the fans being escorted to their seats while matches were going on was a first in WWE programming and I oddly found that very exciting. THE SHOCKER OF THE NIGHT The first match was the six person Ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental title. The contestants being the defending champion Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, Zack Ryder, The Miz, Stardust and Sin Cara. That match had the only shocker of the night for me. And that was Zack Ryder winning that con- test. I did not see that happening due to his lack of push story- line wise. He’s been reduced to being a jobber since 2012 so hav- ing him win this match was a little odd for me. Also I thought that this would be Sami Zayn’s night, especially Sonny Bill Williams after the great match he had with Shinsuke Nakamura on NXT: Takeover Dallas on Friday. That match was one of if not the best match I have ever seen in my life. Thinking more of it made me Williams ‘fighting fit’ think that Zack could be used as a transitional champion. In following Jonathan Winch, who has served the College for nearly all of our 26-year history, and led the College as Principal for 12 years, I have some pretty big shoes to fill! In seeking to serve some of the most dedicated and impressive young people I know, the responsibility is considerable. But while change in leadership inevitably brings with it some new approaches to the way we work, we have been seeking, as a College, to remind ourselves of the things which should never change. Central to the success of Emmanuel College is a commitment to do what is right, pursue the truth and grow in character by living out our core values to the glory of God. A vitally important part of our Christian ethos is the pursuit of excellence – something Emmanuel is known for in our local area and beyond. A determination to be the best we can be for the benefit of everyone in our community will remain at the heart of all we do. One of the ways in which we seek to ensure we live out these values in our lives now and in the future is by developing an attitude of servant-hearted leadership.

AUSTRALIA AND THE PACIFIC: THE AMBIVALENT PLACE OF PACIFIC PEOPLES WITHIN CONTEMPORARY AUSTRALIA Scott William Mackay, BA (Hons), BSc July 2018 Submitted in total fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Australian Indigenous Studies Program School of Culture and Communication The University of Melbourne 0000-0002-5889 – Abstract – My thesis examines the places (real and symbolic) accorded to Pacific peoples within the historical production of an Australian nation and in the imaginary of Australian nationalism. It demonstrates how these places reflect and inform the ways in which Australia engages with the Pacific region, and the extent to which Australia considers itself a part of or apart from the Pacific. While acknowledging the important historical and contemporary differences between the New Zealand and Australian contexts, I deploy theoretical concepts and methods developed within the established field of New Zealand- centred Pacific Studies to identify and analyse what is occurring in the much less studied Australian-Pacific context. In contrast to official Australian discourse, the experiences of Pacific people in Australia are differentiated from those of other migrant communities because of: first, Australia’s colonial and neo-colonial histories of control over Pacific land and people; and second, Pacific peoples' important and unique kinships with Aboriginal Australians. Crucially the thesis emphasises the significant diversity (both cultural and national) of the Pacific experience in Australia. My argument is advanced first by a historicisation of Australia’s formal engagements with Pacific people, detailing intersecting narratives of their migration to Australia and Australia’s colonial and neo- colonial engagements within the Pacific region.

I read the financial press every day. On a regular basis TI come across articles where I am told that some Gordon Gekko-type hedge fund principal or financier tells us he is really worried and he thinks sterling will devalue by two or three per cent in the next month. The explanations as to why this will happen are somewhat plausible but please . no panic. There is no byline, no author, and no references — nothing under the piece to suggest any attribution. We have no idea where it came from or who penned it. It just appeared. There is nothing to substantiate it or no counter-argument or editorial to challenge it. So we read it and repeat it to our mates. I see Gordon Gekko says sterling will devalue by two or three per cent in the next month. It then becomes a fact. What is indisputable is that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The boys have all short positions in place and when the forest fire starts, they collect. A month later we are all blown away. That fella Gordon Gekko is a bloody genius. Put something out there in the newspaper and if nobody checks or challenges it, well then it is a fact. Wednesday evening came slowly and my editor calls.
