The first pontiff of Puttige matha was Sri Upendra Tirtha, who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of philosophy. The current Swamiji of the matha is Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji. Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji is a Seer with extraordinary talents and caliber. He has won the hearts and minds of the devotees of Sri Krishna not only in India but also abroad. He has won world-wide fame and respect through his learned discourses and scholarly writings and publications. He has authored many books on religion and philosophy. His learned works include ‘Suguna Maala’ in Kannada and ‘Suguna Digest’ in English. His Holiness is spreading the message of Bhagavad Geetha and also as said in other Scriptures which sheds light on duty and righteousness. The truth and non-violence are the edifice of world peace and prosperity. Swamiji has a life-long attachment to the Geetha and its glorious message. He has never let go of any opportunity to propagate this holy book. He believes that it is becoming more and more relevant to the modern world with each passing day. During his paryaya, the Swamiji implemented a novel scheme to read aloud the verses of the Geetha every day in the divine presence of Lord Sri Krishna at Udupi.
