JERUSALEM MARATHON & HALF MARATHON On Friday 9th March, the 8th edition of the Jerusalem Marathon will take place. There are various events scheduled this day: the Marathon, the Half Marathon, the 10km run, competitive 5km, popular 5km and family races. The Marathon starts from 07:00 and is one of Israel’s largest marathons. The various races pass by fascinating historical sites that illuminate 3,000 years of the history of Jerusalem, Israel's capital. The International Jerusalem Winner Marathon combines physical endurance with exquisite landscapes, fresh mountain air and unique culture and heritage sites such as the Israeli Knesset, Machane Yehuda Marketplace, Mount Scopus, the Old City, David's Tower, Haas Promenade and more. It is guaranteed to be a challenging, thrilling and unforgettable experience for all runners. The marathon (42.2km) starts at 7am and there is a 6 hour cut off time.

Accommodation (3.5*) Our 3.5* hotel has 196 elegant and comfortable rooms furnished in a European style ideally situated in Jaffa Street, across the road from bus and tram stations, walking distance to Yehuda Market, the Old City, Wailing Wall etc and Sacher Park (race start/finish area). Race registration/Expo is approx. 7kms away and easily accessibly with public transport. This is a clean, comfortable hotel, simple and no frills with good food and free Wi-Fi. Accommodation (4*) Our 4* hotel has 217 well-appointed rooms, an elegant lobby lounge, International style restaurant and a bar. Situated on a busy street, 6-minute walk from the nearest tram stop, 2 km from the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Israel Museum and 4 km from Zion. Walking distance to Sacher Park (race start/finish area). Race registration/Expo is approx. 5kms away and accessible with public transport. This is a comfortable hotel and true to its 4* category.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Is Travel Insurance essential? How much is it? Travel insurance is included for the dates 6-11 March Nov inclusive, if you extend your stay you will be invoiced for the additional premium.

What can I expect upon arrival in Tel Aviv? Airport transfers are not included in the package. Costs and suggested options will depend on how many we transfer at one time. More details will be provided nearer to the trip or can be provided on request. Please also refer to the itinerary for estimated costs.

Can I extend my stay? Yes. Extra nights can be booked subject to availability. Also we can arrange tours. Costs are available on request

Is there a reduction if I don’t want to enter the race but I want to travel with on this package? Yes, non-race participants who don’t want race entry would receive a discount of approx. R 1450

Can I purchase race entry only? We do not sell race entry only; it is sold together with flights/accommodation booked through us.

What is the minimum entry age for the Jerusalem Marathon? 18 years for the marathon distance and 16 years for the half marathon (participants aged 16 -18 require parental consent)

Do I need to qualify for the Jerusalem Marathon? No you don't, walkers and runners of all speeds are welcome. Cut off time to receive a medal and finish is 6 hours for the marathon distance and 3 hours for the half marathon.

Do I need to register in Jerusalem prior to the race? Yes you need to go to the Pais Arena Jerusalem (either Tuesday or Wednesday) to register at the Expo. From 3* Hotel its approx. 7kms - take public transport. From 4* Hotel its approx. 5kms - take public transport.

How do I get to the race start and back to the hotel after the race? From 3* Hotel walk approx. 20 minutes. From 4* Hotel walk approx. 15 minutes.

Do I need a passport and visa? Yes you need a full valid passport with at least 3 blank pages and valid at least 6 months beyond your stay in Israel. South African and British passport holders do not require a visa to enter and stay in Israel for less than 3months (tourism). If unsure please ask and we will guide you but advice and assistance can only be a guideline as we do not have access to your personal history and passport/visa history. If you are travelling via another country or intend to travel of your own accord to another country during this trip please ensure you have the correct visas and personal documentation. Upon receipt of these documents (subject to availability) we will send banking details and a request for an initial 50% non-refundable deposit per person to secure. Balance of monies will be due before 31 December 2017. Airline tickets must be paid in full within 1 – 5 days of booking (dependent on airline rules and advised at the time of booking).

To which bank account do I pay deposits? Details will be provided if your application is successful.
