Citizens’ Budget 2017-18 A Partnership for a Better Bengaluru “It is imperative that citizens engage in initiatives like MyCityMyBudget, towards addressing civic issues in Bengaluru. Only teamwork between BBMP and the active involvement of Bengalureans can make the city better. The BBMP is committed to encouraging any initiative that promotes active participation in civic issues and builds trust in BBMP. MyCityMyBudget is one such initiative and the BBMP is happy to support it. I will personally urge all councillors and BBMP officers to go through the inputs given by citizens through MyCityMyBudget and consider them in their inputs G Padmavathi to BBMP’s Budget 2017-18” Mayor, BBMP “The BBMP manages India’s largest municipal corporation by area. We have a limited budget even after considering state government grants, given the population and number of households, area and road length we service. It is therefore even more important for the BBMP to ensure that every rupee we spend is targeted sharply at citizen outcomes and better service delivery. MyCityMyBudget through its annual campaign and Ward Sabhas ensures large number of Bengalureans closely work with councillors, BBMP officials and even other civic agency officials on budgets and civic works in their neighbourhood. This is a unique, positive partnership between citizens and the government. The BBMP’s administration is therefore happy to support MyCityMyBudget” N Manjunath Prasad Commissioner, BBMP “MyCityMyBudget is intended as a partnership of Bengalureans, by Bengalureans and for Bengalureans. The focus is on budgets and civic works, as budgets and works can directly improve our roads, footpaths, streetlights, drains, public toilets, parks and other infra- structure.

School of Engineering, Bangalore-560 100, Karnataka, India * Shirdi Sai Engineering College, Anekal, Bangalore, Karnataka, India ABSTRACT Nat. Env. Poll. Tech. ISSN: 0972-6268 A phytoremediation study was carried out at 5 major lakes of Bangalore to ascertain Website: neptjournal.com the degree of heavy metal contamination. The study focused on assessment of heavy metal accumulation in three aquatic macrophytes used as biomonitors, in comparison Key Words: with water and sediments (abiotic monitors) for phytoremediation. The aquatic plants Phytoremediation (biomonitors) Hydrilla verticillata, Nelumbo nucifera, Eichhornia crassipes were analysed Aquatic macrophytes along with sediments and water for Cu, Co, Pb, Zn and Ni contamination in five lakes Heavy metals (Aggrahara, Arakere, Naganaikanakere, Amblipura and Hulimavu). The order of Eutrophication accumulation of heavy metals was observed, in general, was Hulimavu > Ambalipura > Naganaikanakere > Arakere > Aggrahara. Based on the concentration, the toxicity status observed in macrophytes was H. verticillata > N. nucifera > E. crassipes. The heavy metals are arranged in the following descending order: Cu > Zn > Pb > Co > Ni in macrophytes; Zn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Co in water and Zn > Cu > Ni > Co > Pb in sediments.
