Press Release Press Release RISI COMPETIZIONE 12-HOUR/HALFWAY RACE REPORT Race Public Relations ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA - 2021 Barbara J. Burns BurnsGroup PR [email protected] Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM No. 62: James Calado (GBR) Tel: +1 770 329 7134 Alessandro Pier Guidi (ITA) Davide Rigon (ITA) Risi Competizione Anna Lenzi Jules Gounon (FRA) [email protected] (Daytona Beach, Fla., January 30, 2021)… At the halfway point of this year’s 59th 6100 Southwest Freeway Houston, Texas USA 77057 annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM holds Tel: +1 713 772 3868 www.risicompetizione.com fourth place in the GTLM class. Temperatures have gotten colder and teams continue to work to manage tires and traffic. Alessandro Pier Guidi was driving his second stint of the race at the six-hour mark and was in third position in the GTLM class before pitting on Lap 193 to turn the Ferrari 488 GTE over to teammate James Calado at the 6hr12min mark. A standard fuel, tires and driver change pit stop was performed by the Risi crew. Within 16 laps Calado was pitting for a top up on fuel and fresh tires after a caution was brought out and nearly all cars headed to pit lane. Although he exited the pits in P5 in the GTLM class, he continued to climb the timing charts and was soon leading the GTLM class. Calado pitted on Lap 239 at about 8hr40 minutes into the 24-hour race while leading to hand the car over to Italian Davide Rigon. Rigon drove a clean double stint with no issues for nearly one hour and 20 minutes, relinquishing the driver role to Frenchman Jules Gounon at 1:07 a.m. EDT in third position in GTLM. At the 10-hour mark, Gounon continued to make his way around the 3.56-mile circuit in third place in class and 15th overall. Gounon’s lengthy night stint continued through the 12-hour mark, where he completed laps around the Daytona International Speedway and stayed in third or fourth positions as he pitted for tires and fuel a couple of times. Alessandro Pier Guidi is up next and due in soon after the halfway point. QUOTES: Alessandro Pier Guidi, driver No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM: “The car is good. The track conditions are changing and the temperature is getting colder. We continue to manage the tires and watch out for traffic. We just keep fighting for position.” Davide Rigon, driver No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM: “The car is very, very good. Now there is a bit more grip on track actually for everybody and for now we are back in our position, I want to say. We’re P3 and slowly, slowly catching the Corvette, but we don’t want to risk too much with the traffic. Now is the key to risk or not risk with the traffic. When we are clear, we seem to be slightly faster, but by only one or two tenths than the Corvette. We need to avoid any risk or contact because it’s very easy with the LMP3 cars slower than us in the corners, so we need to concentrate and not make any mistakes.” Press Release Catch IMSA Radio live coverage on RadioLeMans.com and SiriusXM Radio. IN TOUCH THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF DUNLOP MOTORSPORT [ www.injection.tv ] LE MANS RACE EDITION Dunlop came away from the Le Mans 24 hours delighted with the performance of its dry and light wet tyres after a difficult race in which the changing condi- tions contributed to the overall result. “We were pretty competitive in all conditions other than full wet conditions,” says Dunlop’s chief tyre technician Matthew Simpson of the LMP2 tyres. “On the slick tyres and the light wet tyres, we had a performance advantage, but in full wet conditions we struggled to get temperature into our compounds. The Essex car had engine trouble so we were never going to do better than we did, but we have to look at the tyre perform- ance in wet conditions and make it better. “The Virgo Ferrari team were very strong and our development construction at the rear allowed us to double stint safely. There was no sign of difficulty in doing so, and there was zero deterioration from the first lap to the last in a double stint, according to the drivers. Le Mans podiums for Essex Perhaps we could have triple stinted, but we didn’t test that before the race and during the race was not the time to try. Porsche and Farnbacher Ferrari “The Creation team had four punctures and three of them were caused by debris. There was not enough left of the tyre to establish the cause of the fourth.” The 2008 edition of the Le Mans 24 hours produced was difficult to drive because sometimes the power was everything from a record breaking qualifying and race there, other times it wasn’t and we couldn’t know what to John Nielsen, Casper Elgaard and Sascha Maassen pace, a record crowd of 258,500 turning out in eager expect.
