Specimens were collected in humid lower montane forests and dry lower montane forests between 2240–3170 m elevation at the northern parts of the Departments of Huancavelica and Ayacucho. "Chinchay" is the Andean cat (Oncifelis colocolo) and "cocha" means lake in Quechua. The Spanish called the lake the Lago de los Reyes. Lake Junín (Chinchaycocha) is the second largest lake in Peru. Only Lake Titicaca is larger and has a greater natural diversity and socioeconomic importance. Lake Junín not only has an important population of wild birds (ducks, flamingos, and gallaretas) but traditionally it has been the basis for resources and the source of work for the rural population settled around the lake. A summary of the diversity of the area is given in Group FamilyGenera figure 1. Conservation of Telmatobius Species: T. scrocchii and T. culeus By Anna Martinez Conservation of Telmatobius Species: T. scrocchii and T. culeus Introduction: The Telmatobius Family Telmatobius frogs are endemic to South America’s Andes mountain range, distributed across Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru (Angulo, 2008) (Fig 1 & 2). Many species are purely aquatic and live in small streams or lakes. Others can be partially terrestrial as adults, but their eggs and larvae are completely dependent on aquatic conditions. Their clutch can be 80 to 500 eggs, however they tend to have low reproduction rates. Eggs are laid on rocks with in the water but little is known about their development. Adults tend to live hidden in debris and vegetation, under rocks, and within natural muddy cavities. Though adults may be found resting on rock during the day, most adults are most active at night (Barrionuevo, 2008). Along with their endemism and aquatic lifestyles, Telmatobius species can be found in high altitude habitats. This gives rise to evolutionary adaptations in low oxygen environments. The T.culeus has been a focus of studies observing unique oxygen exchange techniques and will be described further within this paper. Email: [email protected] Abstract: This checklist aims to list all the reported cyprinodontid fishes (superfamily Cyprinodontoidea/pupfishes) of the world. It lists 141 species in 8 genera and 4 families. The most diverse family is Cyprinodontidae (54 species, 38%), followed by Orestiidae (45 species, 32%), Aphaniidae (39 species, 28%), and Cubanichthyidae (3 species, 2%). Among 141 listed species, 73 (51.8%) species are Not Evaluated (NE), 15 (10.6%) Least Concern (LC), 9 (6.4%) Vulnerable (VU), 3 (2.1%) Data Deficient (DD), 11 (7.8%) Critically Endangered (CR), 4 (2.8%) Near Threatened (NT), 18 (12.8%) Endangered (EN), 3 (2.1%) Extinct in the Wild (EW) and 5 (3.5%) Extinct of the Red List of IUCN. They inhabit in the fresh, brackish and marine waters of the United States, Middle America, the West Indies, parts of northern South America, North Africa, the Mediterranean Anatolian region, coastal areas of the Persian Gulf and Makran Sea (Oman Sea), the northern Arabian Sea east to Gujarat in India, and some endorheic basins of Iran, Pakistan and the Arabian Peninsula. -

Characterization of glacial sediments from a 700,000-year-old Lake Junín drill core by Tshering Lama Sherpa Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Honors in the Department of Geology UNION COLLEGE June, 2018 ABSTRACT Lake Junín (11.0°S, 76.2°W) is an intermontane lake at an elevation of 4085 masl in Junín, Peru. The lake spans ~300 km2 and has a water depth of ~12m. It is dammed at its northern and southern ends by glacial alluvial fans that have been dated >250 ka, indicating that the lake is at least this old. Lake Junín has never been overridden by ice in the past 1 million years making it one of the few lakes in the tropical Andes that predates the last maximum extent of glaciation and has a continuous record of waxing and waning of nearby Cordilleran glaciers.
