(The cost?) would be around 3,000, 1/3 in labour. They can use their own workmen. He has told Scott to call at and he will supply all the information.

Earl of Uxbridge. 31. 1785 DEPOSITION as to remembering meetings between Mr. Roe's agent Mr. Bayan Hodgeson and Lord Uxbridge's agent Mr. Harrison. Complications re. rent and damages not paid.

32. 1786 COPY, ORDER OF COURT: for the inspection of the mine by the defendant (Lord Uxbridge) and that the plaintiff [Chas. Roe & Co.?] shall not willfully cause or allow water to be present and thus stop due investigation. The defendant shall give the plaintiff a week's notice of the names, addresses and professions of those persons intending to come on to the premises.

33. 1819 Sept. 18 LETTER: Francis Mascall [solicitor] giving his opinion that the Earl of Anglesey cannot be sued for paying the whole bill for coals from Kenross Colliery to Mr. George Bowser, instead of reserving 3/4 for G.B.'s partners Messrs. Foster, Bonner and Gaunt as the notice they gave him stated.

35. n.d. DEPOSITION: (incomplete) The deponent took down the evidence given to the referees in writing and believes it correct. When he was absent either Mr. Goodman or the clerk of Mr. Oliver, the secretary to the referees, took down the evidence. This deponent ordered a copy of the evidence to be sent to Mr. Williams. Before leaving Oswestry he asked to compare his minutes with those of Mr. Oliver, (but was refused?). After the lease was questioned the cases on both sides should be read. Mr. Leigh, agent for the defence objected to the plaintiffs knowing his case. The deponent believed the defence's case had much matter that was not at issue in this case. Mr. Leigh said that all matters in difference between the parties should be referred.

36. n.d. FRAGMENT of a miner's rememberances of the conditions in a mine. The amount of copper and the fact that there were only two pillars instead of four making it unsafe. He remembered a roof fall.

REPLY: Treweek says he is not a railway expert but he feels that one should be called in.

49. 1887 Jan. 20 LETTER: Mr. Lilly, Spondon, re. ochre. Small businesses are producing a Venetian red and Mr. L. thinks the ochre must come from you. [T.F. Evans]. If he is selling to small businesses Mr. Lilly doesn't want any ochre as he doesn't want to get into competition for reds.

50. 1887 Jan. 26 LETTER: Henry Hills [&] Son, Chemical Works, Amlwch, to T.F. Evans Esq., asking i f he can take 50/100 tons of finest River Mersey Double screened steamcoal at 11/- per ton.

51. 1887 Feb. 18 LETTER: C le Neve Foster, Llandudno to Mr. Evans thanking him for the specimens and asking what locality he should give, Parys, Mona or Morfa Du Mine? He is going to London for the Annual Meeting.

52. 1887 Feb. 23 LETTER: F.W. Webb, London & North Western Railway, Locomotive Dept., Crewe to T.F. Evans Esq., Mona Lodge,Amlwch asking for £14. 11s. Od. for scrap iron from 31 Jan. 1887.

53. 1887 March 3 LETTER: Charles H. Hill, Anglesey Copper Works, Low Walker, nr. Newcastle-on-Tyne to T.F. Evans Esq., J.P. Amlwch re. The Ship Bebell. Her owners are trying to sue for damages while in harbour. 53. Continued . C.H.H. thinks the case absurd and would be inclined to prosecute further but not just to prove he is right.

54. 1887 March 3 LETTER: M. Heuschen, mineral agents & freighters, 17 Rue Basse, Anvers to T. Fanning Evans, Mona Lodge, Amlwch in reply to his letter of 28 Feb. last when he gave the price of ochre at 60 francs per ton. He needs to know the price per ton in Anvers and how much T.F.E. between April and the end of November. He wants a guarantee that the merchandise doesn't contain more than 30% water. The Martha and the Jewel have finished unloading French.

ATTACHED: i) LETTER: reply to the above that the freight is 9s. per ton and it is impossible for T.F.E. to guarantee the dryness of the ochre as it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. He personally guarantees that it will be dry enough for commercial purposes. T.F.E. is looking for rooms to rent in Anvers with his wife and two daughters. (6 March 1887) French.

Acknow­ ledging receipt of the Board of Trade Form Surveys 77 but the 15s. 9d. fee has not been received. ! 69. 1887 May 11 LETTER: Howard & Co. late Capper & Howard, Coal Merchants, Top Locks, Runcorn to T.F. Evans Esq., Amlwch, confirming that The Mary Catherine sails soon. Howard & Co. ask for the Capt. to wire them when he is in the Mersey as they must charter another boat. 70. 1887 May 13 NOTICE: J. Meadowcroft, Bridgewater Navigation Office, Runcorn to T.F. Evans Esq., Amlwch that The Mary Catherine has arrived and asking who is to pay the freight.

Evans Esq., Amlwch, sending an advertisement for ochre. The short weight for ochre for July is 3 tons "12 cwt" 3 st. shall they deduct it? They have seen nothing of the trench.

Mr.Hill has recently died peniless having sunk his money in Mona Mine. J.H. asks for recompense. The worry and annoyance of such a burden on his widowed daughter preyed heavily on Mr. Hills' mind.
