ECHOSMITH’S SYDNEY SIEROTA

October 2016 Sierota on Partywear Collection The collection includes dresses, tops and bottoms that are inspired and created by the 19-year-old singer.

Hollister Co. is in a party mood.

The retailer, a division of Abercrombie & Fitch Co., will launch a special partywear collection designed in collaboration with Sydney Sierota, lead singer of California band . The collection includes dresses, tops and bottoms that are inspired and created by the 19-year-old singer. It will be available Oct. 28 in 180 stores globally and on hollisterco.com.

Last October, Echosmith partnered with Hollister for the All Equal Campaign, which is a global initiative that promotes antibullying in schools. During that time, the Hollister team got to know Sierota’s sense of style and they came up with the idea to collaborate.

Echosmith, an American indie-pop band, was formed in February 2009 in Chino, Calif. The band is comprised of four siblings: Graham, Sydney, Noah and Jamie. Sydney plays the keyboard and is the lead singer.

For the Hollister project, Sierota worked alongside Hollister’s head of design, Lisa Lowman, and her team to conceive and create the collection. They shopped vintage stores in Los Angeles, looked through Sierota’s wardrobe and discussed details for each piece, such as pockets, sequins or beads.

In a telephone interview, Lowman said the collection has that “girly, shine element.”

“She loves shine and that playful feeling. She loves vintage,” said Lowman. She said that the Hollister’s designers would sketch the designs and she’d pick the colors and some of the details. “It was a real collaboration and very organic,” said Lowman. Sierota met with the team for fit meetings to refine and finalize every piece herself.

The collection consists of 11 styles which include matching top-and-short sets, dresses and a pair of coated black skinny jeans. There’s also a black skater dress with sequins and stars, embellished vertically for a shimmery rain effect, a matching top-and-short set in a deep Cabernet color with tarnished geometric beadwork across the front, a pair of leather shorts and a flowy back top with crystals embroidered as stars.

All pieces in the collection can be mixed and matched and dressed up or down. Prices range from $39.95 to $79.95.

Sierota said that “it was such a collaborative process with Lisa and the entire Hollister team. I can’t wait to see how fans style the pieces their own way and of course, I will be wearing it all on stage as we launch our new .”

“Sydney embodies Hollister, a true Cali girl who is fun and optimistic. We loved getting to know her better and finding out the fashion trends she loves,” said Lowman.

The collection will be promoted on social media, such as Instagram and Snapchat, and Sierota will be making a personal appearance at the Broadway Hollister store in New York’s SoHo on Oct. 27.

June 2015 Echosmith Lead Singer Shares Her Festival Beauty Essentials

Sydney Sierota of Echosmith. (Photo: Instagram)

Summer music festival season is upon us and this weekend dozens of artists are camping out in New York City for The Governors Ball Music Festival. If you’re heading to the festival (or just in the mood for some good new music), there are some super cool girls hitting the stages and we caught up with one of them. Sydney Sierota is one fourth (and the lead singer) of sibling group Echosmith. The alt-pop group burst on the scene with their hit song “Cool Kids” in September 2014 (the video has over 41 million views on YouTube) and is making waves again with their new single, “Bright.” Below, Sierota talks about her beauty essentials, how she stays confident, and who she looks up to in the music industry.

Yahoo Beauty: What are some of your stage makeup must-haves?

Sydney Sierota: Some of my must haves are MAC Costa Riche Eye Kohl ($16), Maybelline Great Lash Real Impact Mascara ($6), andNARS Blush in Gaiety ($30). I love doing a smokey brown-bronze eye with pink cheeks, and matte, natural skin. All of these are key to creating this look. I especially love how the Costa Riche liner looks when smudged. And, I always carry around one to two shades ofEssie polish ($9) to make sure my nails are looking good, of course!

Any must-have products for performing in the summer heat?

Secret Deodorant ($4), for one! Beauty wise, I use a smaller brush to apply my powder, Mac Studio Fix ($27), which helps it to last longer, despite a little bit of sweat. Another great staple to help with the summer heat is eyeshadow primer. I use the Urban Decay primer($20) and that keeps my shadow on despite some sweat and oil.

How does your beauty routine on stage differ from off-stage?

It is pretty similar actually. My off stage looks is basically a toned down version of what I do on stage. Being so accustomed to my smokey brown eye look, I tend to always go for that even for my every day look. What really differs though between my every day and stage look, is how dark I go.

Do you ever get nervous before a show? How do you stay confident?

Not anymore typically! Only on certain occasions do I actually get “butterflies” before [going on] stage. Doing this for so long, and doing it so much has helped with that. Staying confident is truly key to putting on a great show. You just have to believe that there is a real reason that you are up on that stage and do your best to make those people as happy as possible.

Who do you look up to in the music industry?

I love and I love what they stand for. They have a message and they make a point to make their fans feel valued and changed after their show. Taylor Swift does a great job of this as well.

June 2015 Beauty Lessons From Touring Musicians

What's your on-the-road beauty routine? "I wash my face with a natural face scrub and apply two different kinds of lotions (one that calms redness and one that acts as a primer) about 30 minutes before applying makeup. Also, I apply an eye cream under my eyes that has caffeine in it to wake me up. Being on the road, you don't always have the perfect mirror to get ready in [front of], so I decided to buy a makeup case that has a few beauty lights inside and a mirror that I bring everywhere. I set my case up, take out all of my brushes and makeup, and organize everything in order to be able to do my makeup easier. I spend somewhere around 45 minutes to an hour doing my makeup while my mom does my hair."

What are some travel beauty tips you've picked up while touring? "Makeup wipes and dry shampoo! Both have come in beyond handy, every day. Just being honest, you can't wash your hair and face with water every day, so these tools are perfect."

What are your "my-tour-bus-broke-down-and-I-can-only-save-three-products" must-haves? "Mascara, MAC Costa Riche eye kohl (you can create an entire look out of this one eyeliner), and my Original ChapStick. Can't live without it."

Three things you never leave for tour without? "1. A sweatshirt that can be used as clothing and/or a blanket. 2. A jumprope, for a quick workout. 3. Nail polish for a quick touch-up, just in case!"

June 2015 Is Sibling Band Echosmith the Next Haim?

Sibling bands are nothing new, but lately it seems that there’s been a resurgence of cool acts that are keeping it in the family. Just look to the sisters behind indie-rock group Haim for proof. Now, we can add Los Angeles-based band Echosmith to the growing list of cool family collaborations. Comprised of the four Sierota siblings, 18-year-old vocalist Sydney, 22-year-old guitarist/vocalist Jamie, 18-year-old bassist Noah, and 16-year-old drummer So what do they think about being among the music industry’s rising sibling bands? “It’s cool when there’s other bands besides the Partridge Family that people know of and that are related like Haim and Kings of Leon,” says Noah, who along with his brothers and sister stopped to chat with InStyle this weekend after the the band’s set at Governors Ball in New York City.

Like Haim, their shared background comes in handy when creating music. “We have a lot of the same influences, but even when we have different ones, we bring them all together,” Jamie tells us. “We’re very collaborative.” However, let's not forget that they are siblings. “Families have to fight through things, but families have loyal kind of bond. We have to remind ourselves of that and fight for each other and not against each other as much as we can. That will usually lead to good things.” Those good things could be defined as creating infectious ’80-infused beats inspired by and The Cure, and of course, their feel good tracks, like "Cool Kids." As they prep for the European leg of their tour, we think you'll be hearing a lot more about these young stars both stateside and abroad.

Be sure to check out Echosmith's debut album ,out now, and listen to their newest single "Bright" below.

June 2015 Echosmith Takes Governors Ball

On Sunday afternoon, a desolate parking lot on the southern tip of Randall’s Island was the place to be. It was the final stretch of Governors Ball, New York City’s answer to Coachella. Most of the festival’s main draws — , Florence and the Machine, St. Vincent, Deadmau5, et al. — had already taken the stage over the course of the prior 48 hours, and many of the festival’s VIPs were waiting out the afternoon lull (headliners the Black Keys and Lana del Rey weren’t due on until 9:15 p.m.) in makeshift cabanas. There was an overalls-clad Alexa Chung, her arms wrapped around new beau Alexander Skarsgard, members of the band Tame Impala killing time before their own set, and even Del Rey herself, casual in jeans and flip- flops.

In the midst of it all was Echosmith, the California-based pop-rock band made up of siblings Graham, Sydney, Noah and Jamie Sierota, ages spanning 16 to 22 respectively. For the uninformed passerby, it would seem some of the festival’s fans had sneaked into the VIP area. In reality, the foursome had just played the main stage, attracting one of the weekend’s biggest crowds. After forming the family band eight years ago, they hit it big last year with their radio-friendly hit “Cool Kids,” and the four have been touring ever since. “In the beginning, it didn’t feel super real,” said Noah, the group’s bassist and most enigmatic personality. “But then hearing your song on TV or in a restaurant — that blows my mind.”

In the past few months alone, the group has traveled to eleven countries, as well as a cross-country tour of the , including a performance at Coach’s Coachella pool party. “You never know what [each show] is going to be like,” said lead singer Sydney. “It’s cool to see all the different environments and different crowds.”

In between shows, however, the band still makes time for extracurricular activities: Graham does school online, Jamie recently got married to his high school sweetheart, and just last month, on her eighteenth birthday, Sydney signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina models. “I got lots of plastic surgery,” she deadpanned when asked how the deal came about. “I got it very young so it looks natural.”

For her appearance at Governors Ball, Sydney eschewed the festival uniform (micro- mini jean shorts, floral headdress, etc.) in favor of a strapless striped dress and towering platform Mary Janes “I mean, I don’t wear this shopping,” she said. “Off- stage we just tone it down a little bit. On stage, it’s us but amplified —” Jamie interjected quickly; he had thought of a joke: “We turn it up to eleven,” he cracked, visibly delighted with his “Spinal Tap” reference.

His siblings burst into a fit of giggles. Cool kids, sure, but still not too cool for a corny joke.

May 2015

May 2015 ECHOSMITH'S SYDNEY SIEROTA LANDS MODELING CONTRACT The musician will be repped by the same agency as Nick Jonas and Coco Rocha.

It looks like we can now count Echosmith frontwoman Sydney Sierota as one of the "cool kids." The California native has signed with Wilhelmina Models, the agency announced on Instagram Wednesday.

The 18-year-old rocker joins the agency's star-studded roster, which includes Boyhood's Ellar Coltrane, who signed with the agency in March, Nick Jonas, Coco Rocha and Soo Joo Park. Sierota currently appears in editorial shoots for Teen Vogue's May 2015 and Elle's June 2015 "Women in Music" issue.

"I am thrilled to be able to dive into the beauty and fashion world at this point in my career," said Sierota in a release. "I've been blessed to be able to see the world with my music and now I want to show everyone this other very important side of who I am as an artist."

Sierota's rise to success shows no signs of slowing down either, as Echosmith — which includes her three brothers Graham, Noah and Jamie — just celebrated their hit single, "Cool Kids," going platinum in Italy. Bravo!

ECHOSMITH (GRACIOUSLY) RISES TO FAME The ingénue band behind the hit song “Cool Kids” thinks their generation has some growing pains—plus, listen to the playlist they’re growing up with now

“So, what’s it like to be the ‘cool kids’ now?”

This question, according to Sydney Sierota, the lead vocalist of Echosmith, is her pet peeve. It’s in reference to Echosmith’s hit track “Cool Kids,” which rocketed up the charts last year, shooting the L.A.-based band of four siblings to unexpected fame.

“I just hate that because it’s not the message of the song,” Sydney, 17, says. “I always turn it around and talk about what the song means.”

“What the song means,” which is most succinctly summarized as “be yourself,” is somewhat of a defining refrain for Echosmith—both because they are very young and earnest, and also because they truly do believe the message is an important one for their generation.

Jamie, the band’s guitarist and the oldest of the siblings, puts it this way: “People today try to make their lives look a lot cooler online; they edit their selfies to not even look like them. It’s a lot easier to cover up who you are, and to act like you’re somebody else. On the flip side, there are some people who are way too transparent on social media and share every detail of their lives when it’s not really the place for that, in my opinion. So I think ‘Cool Kids’ is funny, timing-wise, because a lot of fans hearing the song are going through that kind of stuff. There’s a balance that people are still figuring out, and we’re figuring it out with them.”

Noah, the 19-year-old bassist, agrees. “Our aim is to write for and connect with people our ages. I mean, Graham is 15 and Jamie is 21… So we really want all of our interactions—whether onstage, or on social media, or talking after a show with fans—to have a hopeful and joyful mindset.” Recently, at a show at New York’s Webster Hall, this mindset was set into motion when the band stopped the performance midway through and turned on the overhead lights to take a selfie with the audience. An adoring multitude of teens and tweens were illuminated as they all bunched happily together for Sydney’s Instagram shot. Call it the Echosmith ethos: the post-cool cool. A cool that cares.

Here, the band shares the playlist they can’t get enough of now.

ECHOSMITH: "COOL KIDS" IS AN AGELESS ANTHEM

BY SERGIO KLETNOY

Photo: WBR

Chances are, if you have a Spotify account, you've caught Echosmith's brainwormingly catchy (and impressively self aware) single, "Cool Kids." (Sample lyric: "She sees them walking in a straight line, that's not really her style/ And they all got the same heartbeat, but hers is falling behind.") But did you know the outfit was comprised of a quartet of siblings? Millennials really are a special breed. Here, ELLE.com catches up with the Sierotas—Jamie, 21, Noah, 18,

Sydney, 17, and Graham, 15, to be precise—to discuss the genesis of the family band, their industry icons, and how they've avoided new-band growing pains:

Did you one day decide, 'You know what? We should form a family band'?

Sydney: We actually all picked up instruments individually without the intention of becoming a band and we happened to pick the perfect instruments to become one! I guess you could say that it was sort of meant to be. We tried playing together seven years ago—all sorts of covers, from Rage Against the Machine, to , to The Cure. It was all over the place, but it was enough for us to feel like, 'Wow, we could actually do this.'

Why did you name the band Echosmith?

Jamie: We were just going through anything we could think of and we went through hundreds of names. We landed on the idea of a blacksmith shaping metals and somehow we landed on Echosmith, you know, shaping sounds. It had a cool meaning and also it was short, simple, and easy to say, and it wasn't too genre-specific, either.

Do you all have a unified vision?

Noah: We are very passionate about what we do and the songs we write. For us, the songs come from all four of us in some way. It can start with a certain person, but we all make sure that the song is a message that the entire band wants to spread.

Tell me about the title of the album, Talking Dreams…

Sydney: "Talking Dreams" was actually the last song that we wrote for the record. The song is really just about our perspective on life: We're excited for life; we're excited for our future; and we're happy with where we're at now.

If you could switch places for a day with another "siblings" band, who would it be?

Jamie: We all really love The Kings of Leon and have for a long time. Most people find "family" bands weird, but we always remind them of The Kings of Leon, and how cool they are…

Who did you all grow up listening to? Did everyone have something different playing in their room? Noah: Growing up with siblings you share music a lot. You find a band and then walk across the hallway and you're like, 'Hey, listen to this.'

Jamie: We grew up with bands like The Cure and The Police and a lot of these really cool '80s bands. With the

Internet we were able to discover Talking Heads and The Smiths and .

What's the best and the worst thing about playing in a band with your siblings?

Sydney: The answer for both is the same: We know each other so well. We are old enough, and have been doing this long enough, to not try to bug each other every second—because if I try to push Noah's buttons, he knows exactly what to say to me to get me back even worse.

Which is what?

Sydney: Making fun of anything I say or do. You say something a little funny in an interview and they give you this look like, 'Really, you said that? You represented us while saying that?' A lot of bands are still going through the whole

'getting to know you' phase even if they've been doing it a long time, and a lot of fights and a lot of breakups and things like that happen because of misunderstandings, and we definitely understand each other. Obviously we have our moments, but it definitely works to our advantage more than not.

You have a huge hit on your hands with "Cool Kids." The lyrics are simple, but pretty powerful!

Sydney: We didn't write the song with the intent of, 'Oh my gosh, I want to write a hit single, and I want people to know our song.' Obviously you do want that, but when you write, you need to be honest; we wrote this song because we relate to it. Everybody at some point, whether you're a kid or not, you do have that desire to be like somebody else, and you constantly compare yourself. And it's an everyday decision to decide not to.

I heard Katy Perry loves the song and that you had an encounter with her at the MTV Music Awards.

Sydney: I was backstage and she was just walking to her green room and she said, "cool kids, I wish I could be like them" and, like, pointed at me and walked away. I was like, 'What?!' and I literally just had my mouth open. I actually told someone, 'Tell her to come back out and take a picture with me!'

echosmith meet our new favorite family band. by: liza darwin photo by jonathan weiner April 29 2014

Haim might be front and center in terms of the whole "family band" category, but these sisters better watch out--because there's another crew of California siblings about to take over. Meet Echosmith, the Los Angeles quartet and Warner Bros. signees whose newest track "Cool Kids" has everyone talking (and dancing).

They're relatively new to the scene, but according to lead singer Sydney Sierota, it's been a long time coming. "We first started playing together about six years ago," she explained over the phone. She and her brothers, Graham, Noah, and Jamie been traveling a bunch all over the U.S. in preparation for their performance, and yet she's so friendly and upbeat, you'd never know she's low on sleep.

According to Sydney, "We grew up around music, so it was natural for us to just play together." These impromptu jam sessions soon led to a record deal, 2012's breakout single "Tonight We're Making History," and their debut album Talking Dreams. Oh, and as for that band name? According to Sydney, "we were inspired by the blacksmith, who shapes metal, and we thought an echosmith would shape sounds."

The group may be known for their chipper brand of punky pop, but these guys are quick to tell you their message goes way past addictive melodies. Just take their single "Cool Kids"-- which, as Sydney puts it, "just deals with the feeling of wanting to fit in." It's a feeling everyone experiences, so "most people know what it's like," she explains. With a chorus that chimes "I wish that I could be like , 'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in" it rings true enough to be lifted from any teenager's (or let's be honest, adult's) diary.

With a summertime anthem as catchy as this one, it makes perfect sense they're returning for Warped Tour, round two. Get more info on how to catch them live here, and listen to "Cool Kids" below!
