Hollister Co. is in a party mood. The retailer, a division of Abercrombie & Fitch Co., will launch a special partywear collection designed in collaboration with Sydney Sierota, lead singer of California band Echosmith. The collection includes dresses, tops and bottoms that are inspired and created by the 19-year-old singer. It will be available Oct. 28 in 180 stores globally and on hollisterco.com. Last October, Echosmith partnered with Hollister for the All Equal Campaign, which is a global initiative that promotes antibullying in schools. During that time, the Hollister team got to know Sierota’s sense of style and they came up with the idea to collaborate. Echosmith, an American indie-pop band, was formed in February 2009 in Chino, Calif. The band is comprised of four siblings: Graham, Sydney, Noah and Jamie. Sydney plays the keyboard and is the lead singer. For the Hollister project, Sierota worked alongside Hollister’s head of design, Lisa Lowman, and her team to conceive and create the collection. They shopped vintage stores in Los Angeles, looked through Sierota’s wardrobe and discussed details for each piece, such as pockets, sequins or beads. In a telephone interview, Lowman said the collection has that “girly, shine element.” “She loves shine and that playful feeling. She loves vintage,” said Lowman. She said that the Hollister’s designers would sketch the designs and she’d pick the colors and some of the details. “It was a real collaboration and very organic,” said Lowman. Sierota met with the team for fit meetings to refine and finalize every piece herself. The collection consists of 11 styles which include matching top-and-short sets, dresses and a pair of coated black skinny jeans. There’s also a black skater dress with sequins and stars, embellished vertically for a shimmery rain effect, a matching top-and-short set in a deep Cabernet color with tarnished geometric beadwork across the front, a pair of leather shorts and a flowy back top with crystals embroidered as stars. All pieces in the collection can be mixed and matched and dressed up or down. Prices range from $39.95 to $79.95. Sierota said that “it was such a collaborative process with Lisa and the entire Hollister team. I can’t wait to see how fans style the pieces their own way and of course, I will be wearing it all on stage as we launch our new album.” “Sydney embodies Hollister, a true Cali girl who is fun and optimistic. We loved getting to know her better and finding out the fashion trends she loves,” said Lowman. The collection will be promoted on social media, such as Instagram and Snapchat, and Sierota will be making a personal appearance at the Broadway Hollister store in New York’s SoHo on Oct. 27. (Photo: Instagram) Summer music festival season is upon us and this weekend dozens of artists are camping out in New York City for The Governors Ball Music Festival. If you’re heading to the festival (or just in the mood for some good new music), there are some super cool girls hitting the stages and we caught up with one of them. Sydney Sierota is one fourth (and the lead singer) of sibling group Echosmith. The alt-pop group burst on the scene with their hit song “Cool Kids” in September 2014 (the video has over 41 million views on YouTube) and is making waves again with their new single, “Bright.” Below, Sierota talks about her beauty essentials, how she stays confident, and who she looks up to in the music industry. Yahoo Beauty: What are some of your stage makeup must-haves? Sydney Sierota: Some of my must haves are MAC Costa Riche Eye Kohl ($16), Maybelline Great Lash Real Impact Mascara ($6), andNARS Blush in Gaiety ($30). I love doing a smokey brown-bronze eye with pink cheeks, and matte, natural skin. All of these are key to creating this look. I especially love how the Costa Riche liner looks when smudged. And, I always carry around one to two shades ofEssie polish ($9) to make sure my nails are looking good, of course! Any must-have products for performing in the summer heat? Secret Deodorant ($4), for one! Beauty wise, I use a smaller brush to apply my powder, Mac Studio Fix ($27), which helps it to last longer, despite a little bit of sweat. Another great staple to help with the summer heat is eyeshadow primer. I use the Urban Decay primer($20) and that keeps my shadow on despite some sweat and oil. How does your beauty routine on stage differ from off-stage? It is pretty similar actually. My off stage looks is basically a toned down version of what I do on stage. Being so accustomed to my smokey brown eye look, I tend to always go for that even for my every day look. What really differs though between my every day and stage look, is how dark I go. Do you ever get nervous before a show? How do you stay confident? Not anymore typically! Only on certain occasions do I actually get “butterflies” before [going on] stage. Doing this for so long, and doing it so much has helped with that. Staying confident is truly key to putting on a great show. You just have to believe that there is a real reason that you are up on that stage and do your best to make those people as happy as possible. Who do you look up to in the music industry? I love Coldplay and I love what they stand for. They have a message and they make a point to make their fans feel valued and changed after their show. Taylor Swift does a great job of this as well. June 2015 Beauty Lessons From Touring Musicians What's your on-the-road beauty routine? "I wash my face with a natural face scrub and apply two different kinds of lotions (one that calms redness and one that acts as a primer) about 30 minutes before applying makeup. Also, I apply an eye cream under my eyes that has caffeine in it to wake me up. Being on the road, you don't always have the perfect mirror to get ready in [front of], so I decided to buy a makeup case that has a few beauty lights inside and a mirror that I bring everywhere. I set my case up, take out all of my brushes and makeup, and organize everything in order to be able to do my makeup easier. I spend somewhere around 45 minutes to an hour doing my makeup while my mom does my hair." What are some travel beauty tips you've picked up while touring? "Makeup wipes and dry shampoo! Both have come in beyond handy, every day. Just being honest, you can't wash your hair and face with water every day, so these tools are perfect." What are your "my-tour-bus-broke-down-and-I-can-only-save-three-products" must-haves? "Mascara, MAC Costa Riche eye kohl (you can create an entire look out of this one eyeliner), and my Original ChapStick. Can't live without it." Three things you never leave for tour without? "1. A sweatshirt that can be used as clothing and/or a blanket. 2. A jumprope, for a quick workout. 3. Nail polish for a quick touch-up, just in case!" June 2015 Is Sibling Band Echosmith the Next Haim? Sibling bands are nothing new, but lately it seems that there’s been a resurgence of cool acts that are keeping it in the family. Just look to the sisters behind indie-rock group Haim for proof. Now, we can add Los Angeles-based band Echosmith to the growing list of cool family collaborations. Comprised of the four Sierota siblings, 18-year-old vocalist Sydney, 22-year-old guitarist/vocalist Jamie, 18-year-old bassist Noah, and 16-year-old drummer So what do they think about being among the music industry’s rising sibling bands? “It’s cool when there’s other bands besides the Partridge Family that people know of and that are related like Haim and Kings of Leon,” says Noah, who along with his brothers and sister stopped to chat with InStyle this weekend after the the band’s set at Governors Ball in New York City. Like Haim, their shared background comes in handy when creating music. “We have a lot of the same influences, but even when we have different ones, we bring them all together,” Jamie tells us. “We’re very collaborative.” However, let's not forget that they are siblings. “Families have to fight through things, but families have loyal kind of bond. We have to remind ourselves of that and fight for each other and not against each other as much as we can. That will usually lead to good things.” Those good things could be defined as creating infectious ’80-infused beats inspired by The Smiths and The Cure, and of course, their feel good tracks, like "Cool Kids."
