Anotace Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá epigrafickými památkami vnitřního města Českých Budějovic do roku 1900 a zároveň se snaţí seznámit s historií města se zaměřením na středověk a jeho opevňovacím systémem. Vlastní diplomová práce je rozdělena do devíti kapitol. V první kapitole je nastíněna historie středověkého města Českých Budějovic. Druhá kapitola se věnuje městskému opevnění od jeho počátku aţ do doby současné. Třetí kapitola přináší přehled studií, které se zabývají zpřístupňováním epigrafických památek. Čtvrtá kapitola se věnuje teritoriálnímu vymezení, které určuje území zpřístupněné katalogem. -

September 2010 in Gusterath[1]) war ein deutscher Klassischer Archäologe. Grimm wurde 1969 an der Universität Frankfurt mit einer Arbeit über die römischen Mumienmasken aus Ägypten promoviert. Von 1970 bis 1974 war er Referent an der Abteilung Kairo des Deutsches Archäologisches Institut. Von 1975 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2008 war er Professor für Klassische Archäologie an der Universität Trier. Grimms Hauptforschungsgebiete waren das griechisch-römische Ägypten, insbesondere die Stadt Alexandria, und die Antikenrezeption. In Trier gründete er – gemeinsam mit dem Althistoriker Heinz Heinen und dem Ägyptologen Erich Winter – das Forschungszentrum “Griechisch-Römisches Ägypten”. A római felirattan legnagyobb képviselője, Theodor Mommsen 86 éves korában, 1903. no- vember 1-jén hunyt el. Az elmúlt évben, halálának századik évfordulóján rá emlékezett a tudós világ. A 2003-as esztendő az ókortudomány e szakterülete számára más okokból is jubileumi év volt. Mommsen és támogatói hosszú küzdelem után 150 évvel ezelőtt tudták elérni, hogy a Porosz Tudományos Akadémia végre magáévá tegye a Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, ahogy ma mondjuk, a latin epigráfia „szent bibliája” ügyét.1 Ex tenebris lux facta est et desperationem successus excepit,2 írta Mommsen három évtizeddel azután, hogy a kétkedők és irigykedők makacs ellenállását végre sikerült megtörni. A Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum születésnapjának 1853. december 20-át tekinthetjük: a Berlini Akadémia Filozófiai és Történettudományi Osztálya Mommsennek a pénzügyi feltételek * Az itt olvasható tanulmány némileg módosított és jegyzetekkel ellátott szövege annak az előadás- nak, amely 2004. március 1-jén hangzott el az Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem Régészettudo- mányi Intézetében. Theodor Mommsen und das Deutsche Archäologische Institut' Stefan Rebenich Im April 1844 erhielt Theodor Mommsen das große dänische Reisestipendium 2. Der 26jährige Jurist, der im Jahr zuvor an der Universität Kiel summa cum laude promoviert worden war, hatte die Wissenschaft als Beruf gewählt. Sein Plan war es, in Italien eine kom mentierte Neuausgabe römischer Gesetzesurkunden vorzubereiten. Angesichts der breiten inschriftlichen Überlieferung juristischer Zeugnisse richtete sich sein Interesse von Anbeginn an auf die lateinische Epigraphik. Das Projekt, von seinem Lehrer Otto Jahn angeregt, war ganz nach dem Geschmack führender Köpfe der Berliner Akademie der Wissenschaften, zu denen Mommsen durch Jahns Vermittlung Verbindung aufnehmen konnte. Dort prote gierten Savigny, Lachmann und Böckh den jungen Wissenschaftler und verschafften ihm eine zusätzliche Unterstützung. Seine Exzellenz der Staatsminister Savigny legte ihm nahe, unbedingt mit Bartolomeo Borghesi zusammenzutreffen, dem damals besten Kenner latei nischer Inschriften. Am 20. September 1844 bestieg Mommsen in Hamburg das Schiff. Drei Tage später ging er in Le Havre von Bord, um mit Postkutsche und Bahn nach Paris wei terzureisen. Ein Zufall wollte es, dass der Erste Sekretär des damals noch privat finanzierten Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts in Rom, Emil Braun, dort weilte; Mommsen sprach ihn im Medaillenkabinett der Bibliothek an, berichtete ihm von seinen epigraphischen Studien und verabredete ein Wiedersehen in Rom. Am 8. November 1844 verließ er Paris, um gut zwei Wochen später, am 24. November, in Genua den “heiligen Boden der Natur, der Kunst, der Geschichte” zu betreten 3 . -

Curran, Maecenas: Images of Ancient Greece and Rome Cathy Callaway, Introduction 1 In the Spring of 1998 I was contemplating the next Greek tragedy to be discussed in my class at the University of Missouri-Columbia, when Victor Estevez came in to chat. He was preparing to retire early for health reasons and was interested in our plans for his retirement celebration. "I want a big party," he told me, "but when Gene retires, he deserves something more. He is a scholar of international renown, and should have a symposium or Festschrift." Hence this idea was born, and I am saddened that Victor did not live to see his own much-anticipated party (he died on August 16, 1998) nor the fruition of his idea to honor Gene. The above anecdote both illustrates how this project got started as well as in what high regard people who know and know of Gene hold him. I first met him in the Spring of 1978 when I visited the University of Missouri-Columbia as a prospective grad student. He gave me a painstakingly thorough tour of the library, sure that everyone treasured books as much as he did, and that this one tour of the library would convince me that UMC was the school to choose. Perhaps i was the library that did it, but I like to think it was Gene and the other people in the Department of Classical Studies that made my choice an easy one. -

Dieser Beitrag kann sich ebenfalls nicht damit begnügen, die Geschichte der beiden großen epi- graphischen Corpora der Berliner Akademie, der Inscriptiones Graecae und des Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, »nach dem Schema flott zu machen«, son- dern muss die wissenschaftlichen Ziele der Unternehmungen, ihre methodischen und theoretischen Voraussetzungen, ihre organisatorischen Strukturen und ihre wissenschaftspolitischen Strategien beschreiben.
