Catalogue R1 Marcia and Betsy Edits WELCOME TO SPRING THING! We’re excited to celebrate Bronx Science and our children with you at the Parents’ Association’s 2017 Spring Auction & Dinner! Your support of the auction allows the PA to fund countless initiatives that enrich our children’s lives, and for that, we are truly grateful. The dollars we raise will help pay for much-needed items, including technology in our classrooms, materials for science labs, funding for our college office, software loved by parents and students alike, expenses for extra-curricular activities, uniforms for our sports teams, and much, much more! Our 2017 online auction raised a record-breaking $19,000 (50% higher than 2016), so let’s keep the momentum going and beat last year’s live event by 50% as well. Together, let’s do our “Spring Thing” and bid high and bid often! A big thank you to our Auction Chair Dawn Tolan Schmall and her team of dedicated parent volunteers who have given countless hours of their time to pull together our Spring Thing Auction. We are also incredibly appreciative of the efforts of our dedicated principal Dr. Jean Donahue, our fabulous parent coordinator Cindy Golan, and the entire Bronx Science faculty and staff for creating a stimulating learning environment and fostering parent partnerships which help all of our children excel. An extra special acknowledgement to Linda DeSabato and VALLO Transportation LTD., who generously underwrote a large part of this event and whose drivers safely transport many of our students to the best high school in the world! And last, but certainly not least, thanks to all of you for soliciting and donating items, bidding generously, and joining us on the Upper West Side in support of Bronx Science! Remember, your dollars go straight to the PA and directly benefit our children. So, come together this Thursday to eat, drink, dance, and most importantly, bid, bid, bid! We can’t wait to celebrate with you! Sincerely, Ellen Dubin and Betsy Newberry Parents’ Association Co-Presidents THE EVENING’S PROGRAM 6:30 Doors Open Check-in and Registration Pick Up Your Auction Bidder Number Party Begins Silent Auction Open Enjoy Food, Open Bar and Music 7:30 Buffet Dinner 8:30 – 9:00 Silent Auction Closes 9:15 Live Auction Begins 10:00 Hamilton Raffle Drawing Dessert 10:15 Check Out AUCTION MENU BY KEFI COCKTAILS Signature Cocktail – Spring Thing Sangria Open bar with a variety of wine, beer and soft drinks PASSED APPETIZERS Spinach and Cheese Pies Tomato, Olive and Feta Bruschetta PLATTERS Greek Salad Mini Chicken Ladolemono Sandwiches (lemon, oil, garlic, mustard seed) Penne with Sundried Tomatoes, Spinach, Garlic and Fresh Herbs DESSERTS Assorted cookies and delectables Desserts donated by Insomnia Cookies & William Greenberg Desserts THREE WAYS TO WIN Live Auction – There will be many enticing and irresistible packages presented by an auctioneer for live bidding. "The creation of El Museo is one of the moments where history started to change," said the Mayor as he presented an official proclamation from the City. This was only one of the surprises in a Gala evening that honored Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, Craig Robins, and El Museo's founding director, artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz and raised in excess of $1.2 million. El Museo board chair Maria Eugenia Maury opened the evening with spirited remarks invoking Latina activist Dolores Huerta who said, "Walk the streets with us into history. Get off the sidewalk." The evening was MC'd by WNBC Correspondent Lynda Baquero with nearly 500 guests dancing in black tie. Executive director Patrick Charpenel expressed the feelings of many when he shared, "El Museo del Barrio is a museum created by and for the community in response to the cultural marginalization faced by Puerto Ricans in New York...Today, issues of representation and social justice remain central to Latinos in this country." 1230 Fifth Avenue 212.831.7272 New York, NY 10029 www.elmuseo.org Artist Rirkrit Travanija introduced longtime supporter Craig Robins who received the Outstanding Patron of Art and Design Award. Craig graciously shared, "The growth and impact of this museum is nothing short of extraordinary." El Museo chairman emeritus and artist, Tony Bechara, introduced Ella Fontanals-Cisneros who received the Outstanding Patron of the Arts award, noting her longtime support of Latin artists including early support Carmen Herrera, both thru acquiring her work and presenting it at her Miami institution, Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO).
