Applications may be inspected free of charge at the Office of the Traffic Commissioner in Leeds by any person who carries written authorisation to act in that capacity. Objections against published applications may be made in writing by a Chief Officer of Police, a local authority, a planning authority or a prescribed trade union or association within 21 days of the date on which notice of an application is published in Applications and Decisions. Objections must be made either on the grounds that any of the requirements listed in Section 13 of the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 are not met and/or that a nominated operating centre will be unsuitable for use as such. A copy of the objection must be sent by the objector to the applicant at the same time that it is sent to the Traffic Commissioner. The onus of proof in terms of the grounds on which an objection is lodged lies with the objector. You may fax a copy of your objection to 0113 2488521 but please note that you must send the original signed document through the post. Classification of Operator Licences – There are three classes of licence: A Restricted (R) licence authorises the use of a goods vehicle on public roads in Great Britain for the carriage of the licence holder’s own goods in the course of his trade or business. The licence holder cannot carry goods for other people for hire or reward; A Standard National (SN) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward, on public roads in Great Britain. He can also carry his own goods on journeys abroad; A Standard International (SI) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward. These activities can be undertaken both in Great Britain and on international journeys. An Ofsted report reflects the moment in which a school was inspected and provides a clear outline of the next steps for any school on its journey. Birdsedge was last inspected in September 2006 when it was judged to be Outstanding. In the interim 12 years there have been many changes both in school and to the Ofsted framework. Birdsedge has always been, and remains to be, a wonderful school with a child centred ethos; putting children and families at the heart of all decision making. This is very evident in the recent Ofsted judgement for Personal Development and Welfare which is ‘Good’. The inspection report has identified areas for improvement, however these had already been identified by myself and leaders from the Trust and work has already begun on these improvements. The report provides the impetus to move the school forward quickly and we are really excited to pull together, making the necessary changes and making Birdsedge the fantastic school I know it can be. Ms Spark has agreed to take on a leadership position in school and will be driving forward writing across all classes. Aspects in Early Years identified around progress are historical issues. We have a fantastic teacher in Miss Hutton who will now work with Early Years leaders at Shelley First School to ensure children are challenged to reach the highest levels possible and get the strongest start they need in their education.

Taking up the role from September 2020, it is a position I cannot wait to begin and one I feel incredibly honoured to do. It fills me with complete pride to be able to lead such a wonderful school and serve a very special wider community. I know that Birdsedge First is a small school with a big heart, where everyone matters. This motto, the strong community links and a family culture, so unique to small schools, is what attracted me so strongly to this post. I endeavour to ensure these elements not only continue but grow and flourish under my leadership. I have worked for a number of years teaching and leading in Barnsley schools.     Shepley's Magazine Free to every Shepley household Issue No 19: June 2020 Photograph by Dinah Bentley Page 1 Page 2 Dear Readers, The main aim of Shepley’s Magazine is to connect and communicate with residents within the village. In April the coronavirus COVID-19 presented us, the magazine team, with a difficult decision: the lockdown came just as we received delivery of the printed magazines. We made the difficult decision to deliver the magazine within our daily exercise period but this raised concern with some of our residents for which we apologise. Each month we check with our delivery team and reconsider all the issues and at present we are still delivering the magazine. In addition, we have now managed to provide online access to a digital copy of the magazine on the village website at www.shepleyvillage.org/village-magazine. Initially we had this provision but recently we have been unable to post new versions. We are still working on the site but you should have access to a PDF version which will work on any device however the flip book magazine works on most but not all devices. We still believe the paper copy is the best for connecting Shepley as not everyone has access or the knowledge to download a digital copy. Should our area’s status change to a higher Covid Alert Level than the current Level 4 we may need to consider other methods of delivering the magazine to you. If this should happen look for posts on Shepley’s social media and posters around the village informing you of how to get your magazine copy.

We are delighted to be able to welcome those children who have been learning at home back to school soon and can’t wait for all children to be learning and playing together. However, we want to make sure we do this in the safest way for everybody. Here is a reminder/update of the things that will be in place in school as part of our risk assessment. Keeping visitors in school to a minimum. For those visitors who must enter school we have a visitor policy in place and will provide masks. Ensuring children are in class ‘bubbles’ to reduce the risk of a wide spread of any infection. Reducing large numbers of children together at any time to ensure social distancing can be encouraged and achieved. We will ensure only 1 class moves through corridors at a time and no more than two classes in the hall or on the same area of the playground at break times. In older classes desks are set up to allow children to work facing forwards rather than face to face. Hand washing with soap and water will be built into daily routines for all children, especially when they enter and exit the classroom and before eating. Any frequently touched surfaces such as table tops and door handles will be cleaned regularly during the day.

    Shepley's Magazine Free to every Shepley household Issue No 20: July 2020 Photograph by Cathy Sykes Page 1 Page 2 Dear Readers At the time of writing this in the middle of June, the rain is coming down in torrents from a cloudy overcast sky and as Charlotte Bronte said, at the beginning of Jane Eyre, “There is no possibility of taking a walk this day,” unless you don’t mind getting wet that is, or you have a dog. Let’s hope those lovely sunny days have returned by the time this magazine is dropping through the letterboxes of Shepley. Lockdown is gradually being reduced, shops are opening again, and the economy is slowly starting to move once more. The sight of people wearing masks is no longer unusual, especially in shops and on public transport. Some of our children are back at school or nursery, but the majority will not return until September. The guidelines are changing week by week and nobody knows what the future will hold. It is often said that the place where we live can influence the people we become and like every community our village is home to lots of different people, with various opinions, experiences and skills. Some have lived here all or much of their lives, while others are new to the village. We like to think Shepley is a friendly place and those of us who have recently been able to enjoy the freedom of walking in the countryside around our village have seen the beauty of nature coming alive around us and enjoyed a friendly greeting as we passed on our way.
