TAT Mumbai Director's Message Dear travel partner, Namaste from Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai! This month as we go forth into our second fiscal year in India since the opening of our Mumbai office, we stand on the threshold of launching our heightened marketing initiatives. Our efforts to promote Thailand as a value for money up-market destination will be further bolstered with a strong focus on promoting niche segments such as golf, wedding, film industry and key quality shopping experiences. I am also pleased to inform you that on the 4th of October our Mumbai office recently concluded a successful workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel as part of our initiatives to enhance bilateral relations with the Sri Lankan travel fraternity. Closer to home; since September we have been conducting an educational programme for front-line travel staff across 7 key cities in India which will continue into the month of November. During the current period, we have successfully completed a batch in each of the cities of Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. This unique programme will aide in developing the current level of awareness of Thailand's culture & heritage, spa & wellness, nature and adventure activities which in turn will enhance customer experience. As a reward, Top 10 performers will receive a certification at a ceremony in Bangkok during the month of November. For this month's destination focus, we have chosen Koh Samui - the third largest island in Thailand & the second most popular island destination in the Kingdom. As always, I thank you for your continued support. -

10Th SEADOM Congress 2018 “Connecting Across Borders”
10th SEADOM Congress 2018 “Connecting Across Borders” March 15-17, 2018 Southeast Asia Music Museum @ College of Music, Mahidol University, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand Connecting Across Borders Building out from the last two congresses and with the evolution in connections within the SEADOM group, this year's theme seeks to share some first exemplars of regional border crossings, not only geographically but also stylistically, culturally and politically. With the mix of local, classical and commercial music evident in the region, the range of musics being shared in Southeast Asia is arguably as rich and diverse as in anywhere in the world. Through sharing such music ever more openly, we offer the possibility to transcend cultural and political divisions as well as economic limitations so that the region might become ever more integrated. Following some of last year's discussions, a further challenge which deserves to be transcended is the potential barrier suggested between the educational and commercial sectors: in fact both sides (if there are indeed sides) have so much in common in terms of advocating music. Finally, there is of course the possibility of music reaching out to connect with other art forms or other areas of human endeavour (e.g. health, education, social inclusion etc.). Taking forward some of these ideas, the congress this year seeks to showcase a number of recent projects which have started to transcend perceived barriers to open up unique regional opportunities. The focus will be very much on our own region so we call to anyone here with us to present examples which they believe could be of interest to others regionally. -

Collective Consciousness of Ethnic Groups in the Upper Central Region of Thailand Chawitra Tantimala, Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, Thailand The Asian Conference on Psychology & the Behavioral Sciences 2019 Official Conference Proceedings Abstract This research aimed to study the memories of the past and the process of constructing collective consciousness of ethnicity in the upper central region of Thailand. The scope of the study has been included ethnic groups in 3 provinces: Lopburi, Chai-nat, and Singburi and 7 groups: Yuan, Mon, Phuan, Lao Vieng, Lao Khrang, Lao Ngaew, and Thai Beung. Qualitative methodology and ethnography approach were deployed on this study. Participant and non-participant observation and semi-structured interview for 7 leaders of each ethnic group were used to collect the data. According to the study, it has been found that these ethnic groups emigrated to Siam or Thailand currently in the late Ayutthaya period to the early Rattanakosin period. They aggregated and started to settle down along the major rivers in the upper central region of Thailand. They brought the traditional beliefs, values, and living style from the motherland; shared a sense of unified ethnicity in common, whereas they did not express to the other society, because once there was Thai-valued movement by the government. However, they continued to convey the wisdom of their ancestors to the younger generations through the stories from memory, way of life, rituals, plays and also the identity of each ethnic group’s fabric. While some groups blend well with the local Thai culture and became a contemporary cultural identity that has been remodeled from the profoundly varied nations. -
