If you are looking for activities to make you THINK, note in our bulletin (beginning on page 7) the many discussion groups we offer centered around books, crime, and current world topics. For those who would like to learn a new way to CREATE, you can design your own floral arrangement with a professional. If you admire those who truly INNOVATE, be a part of this year’s new Art Afternoon Open House and Studio event in June or tour an amazing art museum exhibit. Wonder how the Yiddish language could SUCCEED and remain alive after all these years? Join the group day trip learning about an old-world language in a modern new world museum, the Yiddish Book Center. These and more await you, as BNC members and their guests “spring forward” into a new season of activity, learning, giving, and friendship. Come join us! …Judy Silver, President Guest Speaker David Gerber The extraordinary life and career of the iconic twentieth-century inventor, technologist, and business magnate, H. Joseph Gerber, is described in a fascinating biography, THE INVENTOR'S DILEMMA, written by his son, David Gerber, based on unique access to unpublished sources. A Holocaust survivor whose early experiences shaped his ethos of invention, H. Joseph Gerber pioneered important developments in engineering, electronics, printing, apparel, aerospace, and numerous other areas, playing an essential role in the transformation of American industry. David Gerber, an attorney and officer in business and technology roles, has served as a Board Director of Gerber Scientific, Inc. He has received patents in his own name for inventions related to computer automation technologies for printing, prepress die-making, tile-making, and dental restoration. Having graduated from Columbia College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Virginia Law School, David was a visiting Fellow at the Yale School of Management when he wrote this, his first book. In researching this biography David Gerber collected thousands of company documents, now at the Smithsonian Institute, traveled with his father to Joseph Gerber's birthplace in Vienna, Austria, and conducted interviews with family, associates, and industry sources. David Gerber currently lives with his wife, Cindy, in West Hartford, Connecticut.
