Connors, Assistant Professor Department of Agricultural and Extension Education The University of Idaho Outstanding Research Presentation This paper is one of five outstanding research papers from the Eleventh Annual Meeting of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education, Little Rock, Arkansas, U.S.A., March 23, 24 & 25, 1995. Abstract This needs assessment was conducted during the summer of 1994 during the researcher=s Farmer- to-Farmer assignment in the Dmitrov District - Moscow Oblast - Russian Federation. A survey instrument translated into Russian was administered in face-to-face interviews with private farmers and agricultural workers. Respondents were interested in adult agricultural education seminars covering agricultural mechanics, animal feeds and nutrition, animal health and many other topics. Recommendations were made to the National Educational Methodology Center for conducting adult agricultural education seminars with citizens in the Dmitrov District. To adopt the List of Joint-Stock Companies Producing Goods (Products, Services) of Strategic Importance for Safeguarding National Security of the State with Federally-Owned Shares Not to Be Sold Ahead of Schedule (attached). In accordance with Decree # 1514 of the President of the Russian Federation dated December 21, 2001, pending the adoption by the President of the Russian Federation in concordance with Article 6 of the Federal Law “On Privatization of State and Municipal Property” of lists of strategic enterprises and strategic joint-stock companies, changes and additions to the list of joint-stock companies adopted by this Resolution shall bee introduced by Resolutions of the Government of the Russian Federation issued on the basis of Decrees of the President of the Russian Federation.

Environmental issues, protests and big money in the waste business in Russia Jadwiga Rogoża In recent months, Moscow oblast has seen a series of social protests against environmental problems caused by municipal waste landfills. The waste disposal sites are overloaded, lack adequate safeguards, emit toxic gases and contaminate the groundwater with harmful efflu- ent. The situation is most severe in Moscow oblast because the capital city generates the larg- est volumes of waste; however, the problem itself extends beyond environmental concerns into the economic and social spheres. Waste management in Russia is marked by notorious overloading of legal waste disposal sites and the emergence of illegal waste dumps, inade- quate waste disposal practices leading to air pollution and groundwater contamination which affect local residents, and bad practices by businesses with links to President Vladimir Putin which have monopolised the waste collection sector. The worsening environmental problems, and especially the health conditions suffered by res- idents exposed to waste dump vapours, have triggered social discontent. Residents of many locations outside Moscow have been protesting for months, and in some cases have raised political demands. However, a closer analysis of how the protests in Russia unfolded (and sub- sided) offers little hope that they will bring about any systemic change in waste management or create long-term social effects such as the emergence of mechanisms for civic oversight or a gradual change in the relationship between the state and the citizens. The ‘garbage protests’ seem to be an accurate illustration of the general dynamics of social protests in Russia.

Corded Ware, Fatyanovo and Abashevo culture sites on the flood-plain of the Moskva River. Sprawozdania Archeologiczne 65, 415–426. This article presents new evidence from excavations in the Moskva river valley, where Early Bronze Age sites have been found under alluvial sediments on the flood plain. The finds were identified to the Corded Ware, Fatyanovo and Abashevo cultures. Radiocarbon dates and stratigraphy demonstrate that these sites developed from the middle to the end of the 3rd millennium BC. Analysis of pollen identified ancient fields and provided a general picture of the proportion of wild and culture landscapes.
