2011 Year-End Spec Market Scorecard

So this is it: Our official, unabridged, 2011 Year-End Spec Market Scorecard.

In addition to combing through TheGrid since the mid-December Scorecard to make sure our numbers are complete, over the past couple of weeks we surveyed dozens of agencies and management companies to confirm that our records matched their own. It’s a good thing we did -- we captured an additional dozen or so “secret” spec sales that hadn’t shown up on tracking boards or been reported in the trades throughout the year.

All in, a total of 132 spec scripts sold during 2011, a staggering number compared to 2010‘s total (62), even assuming we missed some number of unreported sales last year.

Since we’re all about rankings these days (wait ‘til you get a load of the PowerGrid next month), let’s get straight to the lists of the Top 5 Buyers and Sellers. The number of sales for each company or person is to the right of their names.

Sharp-eyed readers will notice a couple of discrepancies between the above and the story that appeared on our sister site, TheWrap.com, earlier this week. We got word of a couple of additional sales after that story published and updated our grids accordingly.

The full grids are below, along with an alphabetical list of all 132 projects that sold last year, complete with links to each one’s page within ItsontheGrid.com.

You’re welcome, Hollywood.

About The Scoggins Report: The Scoggins Report is a terribly unscientific analysis of the feature film development business based on information assembled from a variety of public and non-public sources. The numbers in the reports are by no means official statistics.

Details on every person, project and company covered by the Report can also be found at www.ItsontheGrid.com, a proud division of The Wrap News, Inc. IOTG is the only place mere mortals can find listings of Hollywood’s active open writing and directing assignments, not to mention comprehensive spec market data; active film development information and relevant credits for released movies going back to 1988. The IOTG newsfeed (www.ItsontheGrid.com/ news) includes daily highlights of recent updates and individual posts on every spec that hits the market. You’ll find buttons to subscribe to the feed right where you’d expect them, and you can follow our Twitter feed here: http://twitter.com/itsonthegrid.
